He came to Portugal when he was 16....not 20...

What's the debate anyway...does Freddy Adu not love the USA....

No they would not question you as much because you are Portuguese and you have Portuguese ancestors. However, you are more Canadian because you went to Canada to live at the age of 1, than Portuguese just as I am American even though my parents are both Portuguese immigrants. I was born and raised in America and the culture I know is American since I was a small child. When I visit Portugal every few years I still feel American even though I am fully Portuguese in terms of family history. I can never be fully Portuguese like the kid who lives his whole life in Portugal.

No matter how much Deco loves Portugal and wants to be Portuguese he can't be Portuguese like Figo or Ronaldo because the culture is not ingrained in him and the ancestors are not in his family line.

If that is true I commend him and it shows that he is trying. Once more I have no problems with Deco and I like him and fully accept him as a member of the NT. I root for him always and the fact that he naturalized has no negative impact for me on his worth as a player.

Furthermore if you listen to his interviews he is slowly losing his Brazilian accent...

The guy is trying, and probably the hardest thing he had to do was to switch Nationalities...

Not any easy thing to do...

No offense....but the exaggeration of Poverty in brasil is potrayed very highly in the media....Although they have problems. Most of the country is relativly safe, or as safe as a country gets...There are rough area's...mostly in Receif and Rio...but then again we have alot of problems in Lisboa as well...

Yep...he visited Portugal for the first time when he was 16 and then soon joined the Porto youth system later on

And....someone said Deco attempted to sing the National Anthem during the Russian game...I did see him moving his lips...he attempted.

I have 55 years old and i saw playing all of them...the best one for sure was Eusebio , the futebol was diferent but even so he was the king.!So far i do not see in the future somebody like him.It is the kind of player we have may be every 100 years. In all world i saw amazing players like Pele (the best one in the world and Maradona the second) ,Beckembauer ,Boby Charlton , George Best..crazy guy , and recently players like Cruif , Cubillas , Madger ,etc.. etc

    Who did?

As far as I know, Deco was brought to Portugal by Benfica. He was loaned to Alverca for a few seasons (I think he did practice with Benfica in the preseason, but was sent back to Alverca). Finally, Benfica sent Deco to Salgueiros (Benfica gave them Deco instead of money to finish paying off Luis Carlos), and from Salgueiros Deco made his way to Porto.

Oh I apoloize...i was led to believe that he went through the Porto System as soon as he arrived in the country.

Deco recruited him then huh....they must have been kicking themselves for losing him...

The game nowadays is tottaly different, faster ,more physical ,more technical...

I dont want to hear this garbage on how players from the 60s could play nowadays just as good...Because thats rubbish....Yes some could but 75% of them would not last in todays game.......

Imagine a player like Ronaldinho playing in the 60s ,he would cut thru defenses like a hot knife thru butter....

A Figo in his prime would be unbelievable back than.....

Eusebio,PELE,Best,Cruiif were all great back than because of their speed....

You show me highlights of Eusebio or Even PELE or Cruiff dribbling players like Ronaldinho....Robinho,CR, just to mention the ones that pop into mind.....

Every player in its own era.....But my opinion is todays player is a much better and complete athlete.....

So ill go With Figo at his prime.....

Figo wont come close to Eusebio in what?Goals ?a 3rd place in a wc?that maybe ...The rest is all Figo baby...

    Heres my backup

Figo 1 golden ball vs Eusebio 1 golden ball
Figo 1 player of the year award vs Eusebio 0
Figo played in 3 European championships vs Eusebio 0
Figo played in 2 Wcs vs Eusebio 1
Figo won 1 European cup vs Eusebio 1 European cup
Figo won 1 cup winners cup vs Eusebio 0
Figo won 2 European super cups vs Eusebios 0
Figo won 1 intercontinental cup vs Eusebios 0
Figo semifinalist and finalist of a European championship vs Eusebios 0

I wont even include youth competitions......Now you tell me who has accomplished more in the International scene......Exclude domestic titles.....

The only thing that Eusebio surpassed Figo is in Goals.....Than again Figo is not a center forward like Eusebio was.......

Who knows how many times Eusebio gave someone the finger, in his time there weren't 50 cameras focused on him.

Sorry that does not wash with me. Players back then (if they were to play today) would have access to the better training that is available today. A gifted player is gifted in any generation. The difference is in what is tought to them. That would be like saying that a docter in the 60s would not be as good as doctors are today. Thats rubbish. It is all in the learning. Players from today have learned from the players of yesterday and it will keep on going like that for generations to come. Would Figo be more dominent in the 60s. No, he would have been tought from what was known and avalble in those times. He would be a great player then as he is now. You can flip it around for Eusebio.

Man could we use an Esebio right now. ;) :)
