Fair enough, but the case for discussing Herculez still has merit. He's an American, he's scoring goals at a steady pace, he's scoring goals from range (a skill sorely lacking in our national team), and he may or may not have a chance to put on a Nats uniform. Seems like the right place for that kind of discussion, and that's all that it is at this point. Don't like it...change the channel.

One thing Herc does have in his favor, like a previous post indicated, is that he probably has a direct line to Bruce's / future national team coach's ear through Donovan. If his play remains consistent, he'll get a look.

So, here's a Latino kid from L.A. (though his hometown is listed as Vegas) who gets his first break in Mexico, ends up in the US lower divisions and then in MLS.

There's a bio of him on wikipedia that's interesting.

Says he got his first break playing on the developmental team of Cruz Azul. That's probably because Cruz Azul, like some other Mexican teams, has scouts trolling about So Cal.

I love a new flavor every month and I like funny. I will tune in and keep an eye on this cat named Hercules. Now that Dempsey is over.

No I'm pointing out that there are way too many Flavor of the month threads. Should he get a shot eventually? Sure... remember Eddie Gaven mania? What about Ricardo Clark's month? Get the point? Sorry I just don't buy into the hype like some others seem to do so easily on the forums.

Yeah but...you've been around the world twice and talked to everyone once. The rest of us are still walking the path of wisdom.

never said I didn't like it.

first post: said he shouldn't get a look. a nice two-week run does not earn a national team call-up. let the kid do it for the rest of the season and start next season the same way. then let's talk.

second post: merely pointing out that people jump to conclusions around here. yes, a player like you describe would be a great asset to the nats. but only time will tell us if herc is that player ... and we need to see him play more in la first. not with the nats.

    :)

I've been really impressed with Hercules and happy to see him crack the SmelLA line-up. Sadly he pushed Kirovsky out, and hating L.A. I really liked seeing that guy keep his spot. The few times I've seen him at Spartan has shown him to be a great talent. A discussion on his Nats chances might be a bit premature, but I also can't think of another forward with his skills...that hasn't been givena look by B.A.

good hustle too.....and let's not forget at one point we thought Kirovski would make it to a WC roster given the chance... did not pan out... so maybe, maybe Herculez has an outside shot (no pun intended ;) )....

i really think that he has to prove that he is a consistant scorer in MLS before he can be called up.

BTW, before Hercules was scoring goals for the Galaxy, he was an indoor soccer player. Kinda like a certain Predag Radosavljevic who went on to USNT fame.

Herc does have a nose for goal and he seems to score, with or without Landon.

Every winter Bruce has a big camp of mostly MLS types. There's a good chance he'll be in this camp, along with a lot of other people. Some will be back for more looks, some won't.

Didn't Davy Arnaud score against the Galaxy? I recall there being a Davy for Nats thread. Hey, let's start it up again!

....which was all you needed to post to show any of us who know about Hercules that you, in fact, don't know jack about Hercules. I'm not sure why you're compelled to pretend otherwise, but knock yourself out.

Herc(7 Gs,2 As) and Rolfe(6Gs,4As) are having strong campaigns that are gathering momentum respectively down the stretch. No crime in discussing a possible callup.

    Re: Hercules Gomez

Sometimes Flavors of the Month pan out. Landon and DaMarcus did. And, fortunately, the next two qualifiers don't matter to us, and the Panama one doesn't matter to anyone. Call up the whole Ben & Jerry's R&D department, have us a taste test.

If Herculez (get used to typing that "z," gang) was still a winger, then there really wouldn't be much point. We're pretty deep at winger. But since he's become a forward, and since we'd probably consider calling up Zacarias Moussaui to camp if he scored ten goals in MLS, there's no sane reason to snub the kid. If he stinks up camp, well, there's always the 2010 cycle. The guy labored for years in the lower reaches of the USL, he's not going to quit easily.

umm, what else should we discuss?Whether Bruce or Sigi has a bigger waist-line? Or maybe, whether Landon should have stayed in Europe? Yeah, that might make a good thread!:)

I think those have already been discussed in threads, but it would just save alittle time if it were automatic, that's all i'm saying.
