Minor insert correction (you started and ended the sentence solidly): "when we win OUR championship this fall," next fall, and the fall after that AND pack the house each and every home game, including friendlies, Reserves kick-arounds, and such, then "turnabout is fair play." Of course I don't like it this way, but until the Rev's start bringing in money they way the Patriots do, I don't think we'll ever have priority over something as small as a blade of grass. Speaking of grass, will be interested to see what the Gillette pitch looks like on Saturday. And speaking of grass... it's Friday right? Back to topic: If you haven't been to a Reserves match and were thinking about it, do yourself a favor and go. You get to watch quality soccer in pure form, all from close up. And you get to witness players you know by name and face only in a much different environment. It's a treat. It really is.
It really is a treat. Yesterday the weather was perfect, the match entertaining... even more so to hear the running commentary from Vercollone's family (parents?) during the match: very nice people from the sound of things, and they certainly know the game.
A little bit more about the Reserves. The Rev youngsters are currently tied for 1st in the league with the Chitcago Fire reserves and the DC United reserves. Each of the first two sports a 5-2-3 record for 18 points and United has a 6-4 record. There are other teams in contention as well, but to keep in simple, the remaining two games for each of the three: Revs Home vs. Mutts, 09/25. Mutts are currently at 4-2-3 (15 points), so have one game in hand on us. Away @ KC, 10/09. KC is 3-3-3 (12 points) in 9 games. Fire Away @ KC, 10/02. KC is 3-3-3. Home vs Crew, 10/09. Crew are near the bottom of the standings with a 3-4-1 record (10 points) United Home vs Mutts, 10/09. Mutts are currently 4-2-3 (15) Home vs Crew, 10/16. 10/09. Crew are 3-4-1 record (10 points)
Actually, I don't believe the information is up to date on the MLSNET web site, and I actually think Connally may now be tied for the Reserve League scoring lead. He has seven goals in nine matches for the Reserves.
No worries, but it is nice we have a shot at the Reserve League title, and one of the top-scorers playing for the Revs.
This is possibly your last chance to catch the Reserves this year, and your first chance to see some of the finest local talent. Sunday, Oct. 16 10:00 a.m. Reserves vs. Mass. Premier Select (Wrentham St. School, scroll to post above for map and directions.) Maybe we should organize a pre-game breakfast tailgate? or a post-game lunch?
