Is this still a viable option - cooking our own food on the big grill? Also, what's the likelihood a pre-tailgate bash in the Day's Inn parking lot like last time - with the El Tri fans camping out in McD's lot next store?
Yes it is -- the grill staff will be glad to help anyone out with cooking their own stuff. And I am sure there will be others at the tailgate, at least the fellas with the NJ Brigade, who will have their own grills as well to help folks out.
Re: Everything you need to know for Columbus 9/3 and more..... Thank you, but I don't wear panties. If I did drink, however...
Re: Everything you need to know for Columbus 9/3 and more..... does that mean you could be found in panties Saturday?
Re: Everything you need to know for Columbus 9/3 and more..... I read somewhere that some bar called Fedo will have euro games on live Sat. morning. Anybody have a list of games they will be showing? I heard thats one of the bars Ohio State Footballs fans will not be in....I wanna stay as far as possible from them.
Re: Everything you need to know for Columbus 9/3 and more..... 614-418-0066 www.fadoirishpub.com They're not saying (on-line) which games that they're going to show. I'd imagine England, whatever is on FSC, and if Ireland is playing then their match too. Probably whatever the US -soccer bar consensus is. Also, this is the best place probably to avoid the OSU game day crowd.
Re: Everything you need to know for Columbus 9/3 and more..... From an email I received today from Fado's...You'll notice they are charging a $20 cover for the England match.. Sat. Sept. 3 World Cup Qualifiers England v. Wales - 10 am ($20 Cover) Sweden v. Bulgaria - 11 am Scotland v. Italy - 12:30 pm Romania v. Czech Republic - 1:30 pm Poland v. Austria - 3:30 pm ($20 Cover) Armenia v. Holland - 9 pm NCAA Football Ohio State v. Miami Univ. MLS Crew v. Chivas USA - 10 pm
Some advice req'd from the locals -- we've got five people and an SUV rental reserved for Fri - Sun, and here's the itinerary for the entire weekend: Friday - airport to downtown Saturday - downtown to OSU lot for afternoon game, OSU to fairgrounds for night game, fairgrounds to downtown after game Sunday - downtown to airport That's it. The question is, do we even need the rental or can we cab it around for the weekend?
Driving option: I'd recommend driving to the Crew Stadium lot on Saturday morning, parking there for $10, and hopping on the free shuttle to the OSU campus area. Or else what you could do: Take a cab from the airport to downtown Take a cab from downtown to OSU Take the free shuttle from OSU to Crew Stadium -- I'd imagine they'd let you do this, even though you'd have no car. Fairgrounds to downtown, you might be able to get a ride from someone, even if you have to take seperate cars. And then just take the cab back to the airport on Sunday. With the way gas prices are, it might be cheaper just to split 3 cab fares. Bus/walking option from Downtown to OSU: You could even take a bus (#7 or #2. The #8 might work as well as a 3rd choice.) from Downtown to OSU on Saturday morning. That's ~$1.25 a person one way. Unlike other cities that have tokens, change machines, etc. ours doesn't. You'd need to have exact change when you get on the bus. If you don't mind the hike, it's only 2 or 3 miles, and once you get about halfway, it seems quicker because there'll be a lot of people joining you. You could then take the shuttle over to the fairgrounds, and then either take a cab or get a ride from someone heading back downtown. If you're walking or driving, the easiest way is to take High Street north to King (Kroger on right corner). King is on the left, 7th is on the right. Turn left on King, then go to Cannon Drive. Turn right on Cannon Drive. From there, just follow the traffic.
If anyone wants a ride to Crew Stadium from the German Village Inn for the tailgate, I'm renting a Dodge Neon & hopefully will get a VIP pass at O'S on Friday. Sure will suck to have it empty.
I might have to take you up on that. I've got someone who may be giving me a ride, so I'm not sure yet.
So does anyone know if there is going to be a poker game Friday night. If so, and if there is any room, send me a pm. I'd definantly be interested in playing.
i might have some room in my vehicle (from GVI as well) need to get a VIP pass... but i'll do that friday night if i do it

What's the gasoline situation in Colombus? I'm heading up from the Charlotte area and there are serious shortages here. Many stations are out of gas and don't know when they will recieve shipments.
hysteria has taken over Charlotte, which makes me lose faith in my fellow residents........... ncguy, I am heading up from Cornelius tomorrow morning. I am full right now and figure I only need one refill in either VA or WV to get up there. Does anyone know the situation in VA/WV? ncguy, when are you leaving?
So let's say I somehow manage to find out which hotel the Nats are staying at, and let's say my son and I want to get there on Saturday to hang around the lobby and beg for autographs from any players that come wandering through. For anyone who's done that kind of thing before, how early does the team leave for the stadium on gameday? How early do we need to get to the hotel to have a prayer of getting autographs?
Best bet is to stay clear of trying to gain access to the team day of the match and insteand try the day/night before (Friday night) or the day AFTER the match. No inside information here; just observations when I happened to stay at the same hotel as the players (including the US, MLS, and even other countries teams) and saw people trying to get their autographs and a few pictures. Plus, the players are typically friendlier and more accessible on any other day than match day.
Drove through both states yesterday, WV seemed to be slightly cheaper than VA on average but it'll vary from place to place obviously. OH seemed much more expensive than either of those but the way yesterday was going, that could've just been because it was later in the day.
Any chance that the post-game bar could tape the DC v. COL match and play it on tape delay so the entire match could be seen.
there is a lot more detail in a thread in this forum about getting gas.. gives a website with all the stations in Cbus and such.. check it out
