Also of note in the article:

-Teams will be allowed 6 P40/Developmental Players this year, up from 4 last year.

-Brad Davis "graduated" from P40 so he now counts against the roster and the Cap.

-We only have 2 P40/DP players now: Akwari and Moore, with 4 open slots here.

You missed the biggest news. Martin Klinger graduated P40 as well. Way to go, Martin. Way to go.

Graduated? You mean you can go to a Soccer University? Woo-hoo!

    I was just joking folks.

4 open slots and a total of 3 fargin draft picks, last I heard (none of this on a damn site anywhere; way to go MLS). P40s would be great, but don't count on us drafting our way to the max of 6. We will have to draft some though, as we are close to/over the cap for next year and we could use the cap relief of a P40 player, as long as he isn't an unmitigated bucket of suck like Klinger was.

DC has 4 of the first 14 picks, plus 2 allocations due (or did after the Petke trade on 12/23), per MLS, so they will probably get the cream of the P-40 crop.

If some of the P-40 guys don't get drafted we can pick them up afterwards, but if they don't get drafted would you even want them?

Can someone tell me about Eddie Gaven, and also take a guess at where he is expected to go in the draft? Although he is the youngest MLS signee ever, or perhaps because he is the youngest signee ever, and he is from Hamilton, NJ, it seems like he might be a good pickup.
But when is our second pick? I know that it's low, but I don't remeber how low.

I wouldn't be stunned to see a few more trades in the next few days alter the draft order yet again. I don't expect the Metros to pick up a first rounder , but I could see a trade wherein we acquire a second rounder and clear a players or two off our roster.

A quick question. Could we sign a metrostars black player and make him a P-40? (No, I'm not thinking of anyone in particular ...just thinking in generalities) I forget. MLS rules, or what passes for them, get confusing.

    Happy Friday everyone!

I don't think we can turn someone into a p40 but we could sign metros black players to development contracts..so they count against the 6 development spots...i am not sure if those guys count agains the rest of the cap.

So, if we signed a MetroBlack player, they'd not be a P40, but they could still be one of the six that don't count against the Cap.

That's interesting. I guess we'll now have a chance to see how the Metro Black project has gone.

    Thanks,

I'm pretty sure last season when we signed Dustin Sheppard mid-year he counted as a Developmental Player. I think he was waived so we could pick up Akwari.

Too bad OZ in his infinite wisdom dumped Sheppard instead of say, Klinger, he showed some potential.

I also think the Development Player label is assigned based on age. I remember reading last year that any player under 22 or 23 that is signed at near MLS minimum can count as developmental.

As for Metrostars Black, if someone posts their roster, I remember that the majority of players were in their mid-late twenties and foreigners. Their Metrostars.com roster does not show any ages or nationalities though.

"...they will now be left with two strong midfield options in Gaven and Clark at No. 2."

Do they mean Clark at #2 and Gaven with some other pick, or either of them at #2? To me, 16 sounds too young for the #2 pick. But if we could get Gaven with a later pick I'd be all for it. Does anyone know in what round Gaven is expected to be drafted? Might a second round pick be sufficient to nab him?

might be, but I would expect some kind of deal to get a later-first round pick to ensure it.

or put differently, if i held somewhere from 7 to whereever the next Metros selection is, I would consider offering it to the Metros for something I wanted.

of course I'm still not convinced that the league office doesn't send out directives saying "player X goes here, and player Y goes there."

Gaven said yesterday the Metros are his first choice, his favorite team.

To all MLS team, i would trade u my 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks for your 1st or 2nd round pick.

That'd be pretty pointless. Bradley has a habit of finding some great players in those lower rounds. More likely is trading Richie Williams or someone like Lisi for a draft pick or two.

2 things about the mock draft Tron.

1: Be careful with this top drawer soccer thing. Your posting the links every other thread is getting very close to the spamming line that can't be crossed.

2: You can tell this mock was done by a very biased group. DC gets Eskandarian, Clark, Gaven AND Pause? So unlikely it gives a new meaning to the term "mock" draft. There is no way that both the Metros and Dallas pass on Clark, and I doubt Gaven will fall that far either.

    Vaca Muerta?

I haven't heard much about getting Vaca in a while, is this still in the works? If not, I wonder if it would be worth trading our remaining allocation to Dallas for their #4 pick. Dallas would have their Earnie Stewart allocation and the Metros could pick Shavar Thomas, Eddie Gaven or Diego Walsh to go with the "assumed" pick of Ricardo Clark at #2.
