For MLS to thrive it needs to have the NY/NJ franchise be succesful or even to have a chance at being successful or it will eventually go down the tubes as NASL did years before. Drop Balboa and sign Ernie Stewart with the allocation. If Bradley is such a motivator and guys like to play for him so much than Stewart should revive our team immediately. If there is a salary cap than it is a simple switch of max salaries. Since we are one of two worst teams and not getting top pick in Super Draft it should not be an issue. MLS needs MetroStars to stop being league's doormat every year. Ernie Stewart should look forward to reviving our team and being a go-to guy on a team with the likes of Mathis/Moreno/Howard. If DC gets him and Alec then that would be a potential NY/NJ and MLS mistake. MetroStars are only MLS team without a cup final of any sort and attendance will get worse unless the team at least make it to MLS finals in the next two seasons. Critical move here for MLS. Will they blow it??
Yeah that makes sense. I am a Metrostars fan so this isn't me taking offense of more Metrostars bs. We weren't one of the two worst teams in the league last year. We were one of the two teams to not make the playoffs. The crap display we put on for the better part of last year should almost be penallized. Not rewarded.
Every time that the league has tried to step up in the past and "fix" the Metros it's blown up in our faces. Remember the dispersal draft in '99 to make room for Lothar who was going to save us? Remember the '99 season? With Bradley in charge we finally have someone who knows how to build a winning team. Let Bradley build the team, keep MLS League headquarters out of it!!!!!
Earnie might have something to say in the matter. He doesn't suddenly become MLS' indentured servant just because he wants to play here. The league should be moving away from manipulation on this level anyway. I believe that perception of professionalism and fairness to all the teams will probably be more helpful to the league than steering an aging player who has the POTENTIAL, but certainly is no guarantee to improve his team to the top of the league, to the Metrostars.
How the hell can you complain about mls headquarters destroying your team? Don't like Mathis? You're asking the MLS headquarters not "blow this one" or whatever it is you want them to do, but its not up to them to hand you Stewart because you traded away your allocation and you dont have priority.
The league didn't give us Mathis. The only team that the league's been helping is DC. Only difference is that DC hasn't done anything with what has been given to them. Ever since 1999, DC has signed Convey, Quaranta, Rimindo, Ryse(sp), and Ray Hudson. Yes, the last three are 2002 moves, but still.
Ah, yes, I forgot the league's been helping us. That's why we had to trade away all those players when we were good. That's why they tried to give NJ players year after year to no success. Got it. Thanks.
Are you too stupid to read simple English? Oh wait, I see you're a DC fan. That makes my question rhetorical. Well, whenever you get around to taking a basic reading comprehension class you'll see that I was addressing the 1999 season and some events that took place then. Again, since you're a brain-dead DC fan, you probably have little knowledge of the league or what actually happened in '99. I won't go through the whole thing again here. But if you ever get past a 1st grade reading level, you may want to look it up and see what happened yourself. Thanks for playing.
This makes no sense. How has any of this been the league helping us? We chose all these players in drafts that other teams participated in.
I'll give you Olsen, but COnvey was picked up in the draft with the 12th pick. That's not exactly "first dibs"
