Right. Because Don Garber personally oversaw the injury to Jaime. No other player was in any way in peril out there. It was just a big old plot against Jaime Moreno and DC United.

Cripes, people, I'm not a big proponent of this stupid game but for god's sake it wasn't personal.

Would you ask the same question if MLS had won this game and all the DCU players had escaped unhurt? If so then it's a valid question. If not, it's just sour grapes.

I agree this hasn't turned out the way anyone hoped. No question. And ignatz does, in fact, ask perfectly legitimate questions.

But hanging him? And all the name-calling? A bit over the top, no?

Oh well. I choose to turn my attention to the USOC match. I take it that today's match isn't worth watching?

I made it as far as the first goal and Jaime limping off the field before I turned it off. Luckily "The Armadillo...Natures Little Tank" was on PBS :D

Finally, you're catching on. I don't see what took you so long.

Do we know how bad Jaime is hurt? Maybe he knew after the first goal that the MLS select were about to get pasted and wanted no part of it?

    - I have seen the film. The knock on Jaime does noy look too bad. IMHO

    - I did not expect Jaime to play tomorrow anyways. Give it until Saturday to heal

    - Garber has done better that Logan but that by no means he should get anything of a free pass. These "All-Star Games" versus European clubs are crappy ideas, in my view. I did not watch the MLS vs Chivas game, the MLS vs Fullham. The only reason I watched any of this is I wanted to review the tape I made once I heard about Moreno. I fast forwarded to the knock and his being subbed out

    - Garber needs to stop allowing the Europeans to treat him like a red-headed step child. "Oh, sure well put together a team to come play a mid-week game for you kind sir." No Galctico is going to transfer to MLS in the forseasble future. It will not net MLS more money on Freddy transfer. There was no positve to playing this match. This is what happens when you allow the marketing department to make the decsions. It could have been Landon, O'Brien, Dempsey who got hurt.

    - There was no way the MLS side could succeed in this match. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong but all 12 MLS sides were in action this weekend. The players then got on a plane to play what yesterday? 5-0 was a good result.

Bottom line Garber needs to be held accountable for this match being a horrible failure.

Exactly. No reason to continue once he realizes what they're in for.

Look, this idea sucked. It sucked from the start and it backfired even worse.

That being said, as a whole, Garber has probably saved this league. If Logan were still around the league might be too, but I doubt in five years there would be any significant progress whereas with DG the league looks like it could be making money within the next decade.

This really sucks in that Moreno got hurt, but people are going very far over the top about Garber.

Jaime being hurt for a few games sucks, but knowing that there's a good chance I can watch DC United for decades to come makes it bearable.

Sour grapes and arrogance, that's what this thread is about. Don Garber IS the best thing that ever happened to the league.

I don't disagree with that. What I do disagree with is blaming him personally for Jaime's injury, or whatever it was.

Actually, the Madrid goals were pretty sweet. It was worth watching just to see some seriously world class players. Look, did anybody really expect us to win or keep it close? I'm sure we all fantasized about it, but come on! This was Real Madrid!

It sucks that Jaime is hurt, but it could have happened to anyone in any game. The knock on his ankle did not look all that bad to me. I was surprised he was injured at all. To get all over Garber is a little childish.

I sure wish the Show Pony had been healthy. There's no doubt he would have went in Moreno's place. No question right now Moreno, Gomez and Rimando are the backbone of our team right now. No other team save New England and possibly NY/NJ were as horribly exposed as DC. What a pisser. I'm more worried about Saturday than tomorrow. And like Rogo said, Jaime isn't the quickest to come back from injury.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Not today he wasn't. Look man, Garber royally f'ed up by playing this game, probably against the wishes of MLS coaches, and in the process one of DC's top players got injured. It's already worst that they have Freddy, Olsen, and Alecko injured....now Jaime too? I TOTALLY feel for and understand what D.C. fans must be thinking right now.

Garber has been a fantastic Commissioner, but today was clearly a black mark on his record. Let's hope now that he can eliminate these ridiculous delusions of grandeur (friendlies against international teams, a "combined" Mexico/US league, etc etc) and focus on the IMPORTANT, day to day busting your ass hard work that will truly make this league what we'd like it to be...such as getting new investors like D.C. just got.

If MLS side won than it would have also been useless game that "MLS team" won and frankly I wouldn't care if MLS team climbs mount Everest cos aside from 2 players on there I hope rest of them get kidnaped by gypsies and stay in Spain for next 3 months. :)

Bayern Munchen beat Croatian league team 2:0 at the same time and much like this noone knows it except people that follow FCB or Croatian league. Well that and it was humanitarian friendly so they collected lots of money for war orphans :)

We shouldn't agree to anymore allstar exhibitions.....as a matter of fact, unless hardware is on the line or MLS is reaping big money I wouldn't play Real Madrid again. I'm worried about going into a partnership with them in any form because I'm starting to believe they are the the Wal-Mart of soccer, they go in, put their brand on everything, wipe out other competing entities, suck all the money out out of the market and leave. MLS won't get credibility by winning friendlies (there is always the built in excuse that the Euros were taking it lightly or were out of form)......they have to win the club championships in the region.

You cannot invoke sour grapes when people were complaining about the match before it was played.
