One reason UNC get so many NC players is that they typically throw a little money (books, etc) at them and get them in the school. So, you are not a top level talent, but a very good player and want to try & play in the ACC at a good school: Wake & Duke: $40k (severe limitations on who gets in) UNC & NC State: $12k (much easier to get in as a NC resident) Typical tactic (UVA does this too): grab some of the top in state talent so that others don't get them. If they don't pan out, you have little if any $$ invested with some quitting after a year or two of not playing much.
I find it AMAZING that UNC is picked second in the ACC yet they are not even nationally ranked. How does this work? They had a terrible year in the ACC last year. I'm shocked. Maybe they will suprise me.
seems kind of silly to me also, but the same people that make up the ACC rankings are just a small subset of the national ranking group. don't put too much stock in pre-season rankings. they're mostly just guessing anyways, and there's very little reliabilty in the system. i expect that unc-ch will be somewhere in the mix of things come the end of the year.
My prediction - but they didn't ask me! 1. Duke (the clear favorite) 2. Maryland (tons of talent) 3. North Carolina (ACC coaches must know something) 4. Virginia (winning tradition continues) 5. Boston College (the year of Charlie Davies) 6. Wake Forest 7. Clemson 8. NC State 9. Virginia Tech Nice conference. Very tough to predict after 1 & 2. I'd love to see Duke & Maryland in a Final Four with Indiana and (________) fill in the blank!
Actually. I, believe the following 1. Maryland 2. Virginia 3. Duke 4. Wake 5. UNC 6. Boston 7. Virginia Tech 8. NC State 9. Clemson We'll see.................
