I remember being in Michigan one summer and going through a tornado watch. What did we all do? Gather on the porch and watch for a tornado.
I wish I had known your grandma! The reason I'm afraid of storms is because, when I was 2 or 3, I was playing outside with a friend when one of those summer storms blew up really quickly and lightning struck the air conditioner unit that was maybe 5 feet away from us. So I've been afraid of lightning since then, even though I've only recently come to the realization that had I been a bit taller I may have gotten hit instead of the a/c unit. Anyway, since that point until about 10 years ago I always would try to crawl under whatever I could fit under that would keep me closest to the ground and offer what I felt was the most solid protection, and since our house didn't have a basement, it would always be like the sofa or coffee table on the first floor. Once I started getting too big for that, my parents decided to get some phobia counseling for me. It worked a little because I no longer try to crawl under furniture, but I still grab a blanket and curl up in the back hall closet, since I still don't have a basement to hide in.
Hey - i_heart_the_quakes: It says you only have a little over 200 posts. Is this possible? I swear I've been seeing your posts for years here.
I first joined last Nov. as i_heart_sissypants. I don't know how many posts I had as that, but I don't think it was much more than I have now on this name. But either way, I have only been here for 9 months. Maybe it just feels like it's been years that you've had to put up with me.
When I flew to Michigan to visit my family a few weeks ago I was looking forward to a good midwest thunderstorm. Unfortunately, the only one that happened during the two weeks I was there was when I was trying to fly in and out of Ohare. Not the best time to be in the midst of a bad thunder and lightning storm. Ugh. I just got a phone call from my sister. She was in a serious car accident last November, and for a few reasons her story is a bit interesting. A producer from the Montel Williams show called her today and they are flying her out to NY to do a show on her. I told her as long as she stayed away from Dr. Phil she could do whatever talk show she wants and I'd still respect her.
Hubby (david, of 'david and girl', or 'david and rebecca'), might be looking for a ride to and from the game on Saturday. I'll be up in the mountains with our only car, and if he and his poor injured foot stay here he obviously wants to go to the game. We live about one mile off of 280 at the El Monte exit. He says he'll contribute to parking/food/beer/gas/whatever. Or, public transit suggestions from Los Altos would be appreciated (caltrain works to get there, but not home so well).
We had a tornado touch down yesterday. I didn't even know about it until a patient was checking out and was like "did yall lose power during the tornado?" Turns out it touched down a couple of miles from where we were at and I had no clue. That's just lovely.
I really miss Cowboy! And I really, really miss seeing Cowboy out there during warm ups...stretching and...stuff.... Uh, huh.... It just hit me how long it's been since we've seen him and that we'll never see him out there again.... Excuse me, must find Kleenex....
I was a kid in the Cincy suburbs during the April '74 tornado outbreak. One hit a few miles from our house. It was during this outbreak that Xenia got levelled. Instead of developing a phobia, I developed an obsession. Never did see one of the damn things live though.
You'd now better salute me when you climb up the stairs, soldier! http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050812/NEWS08/508120364/1001
Because she mistook you for Allyson Hannigan? Or because she didn't mistake you for Allyson Hannigan?
No because she was a TOTAL rude biznitch to the barista at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf while we were both waiting for drinks.
Not that I've ever eaten one mind you, but . . . I read an article about someone in Indonesia having caught one. They tried to eat some of it and discovered that it tasted horrible. It turns out that their flesh contains a lot of urea. Yumm! For everything you never wanted to know about this fish: Coelacanth Very strange! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Here's something that appeared in the Joan's World section of this morning's Contra Costa Times. If I remember the original article correctly, Noel faces a death threat from gangs in Haiti for something his brother did. Dear Joan: In the Times on June 10, there was an article about a young soccer player played named Fabrice Noel. The article mentioned that he was working to get $3,000 so he could bring his family to the United States from Haiti. I'm trying to find out if there is a fund set up for this purpose and how I might contact him. While I have very limited funds, I would like to help in this instance. Is there a fund, and how may I contact him? -- Harriet B., Pacheco Dear Harriet: Noel now plays for the Colorado Rapids major league soccer club, and officials with the club are assisting him with the paperwork required to bring his family to the United States. Although many have offered to help, officials say the fund is premature at this time. You can write Noel by addressing correspondence to: Attention: Fabrice Noel, Colorado Rapids Soccer Club, Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle, Denver, CO 80204.
