I don't remember seeing anything on bigsoccer like this before (although I'm sure somebody could point out that it's been here, I'm just not an avid enough poster...) Anyway, assuming the posters here are some of the more hardcore fans, where do you guys come from? It's safe to assume many foreigners who are here and happen to follow MLS may frequent other foreign boards, but what's the bigsoccer-MLS fan's background?
3rd generation on one side of the family is the closest i get to being ethnic at this point in time... i'm just a mutt
This thread is actually "Big Soccer User Ethnicity". and will tell you nothing about the MLS fan ethnicity, especially as it is in English.
You're a quick one, arentcha? It's still an interesting poll...46 votes in 2 hours...must not be the only one who thinks it's worth something.
I'm in the 1st/2nd generation group. I thought we'd be represented a little more. About 60% old-school American so far. I guess that's about what I'd have guessed.
I think this is some good data. I think more polls could be done to help MLS really understand their target market. It's not all immigrants and first generation citizens, soccer really does have a place with the natives.
Ich ware in Weisbaden geboren. Aber, meine Vater was eine Amerikaner Luftwaffe Kolonel. Meine Mutti was Amerikaner auch. So, I guess that makes me old school but with some European flavorings......
My dad was British, married to an American. He went to school in Swansea, Wales, who I see you support. (Wales, that is, not Swansea)
First-generation American (both parents from Taiwan), but then my parents don't care too much about soccer at all. In fact, they tried to talk me out of playing it on the excuse that I was getting injured too often. My dad follows AC Milan intermittently and will watch soccer if he's channel-surfing and there's nothing better on, but didn't watch any of the World Cup except the final.
Old School (African) American. (Yes-Yes yall/and ya don't stop/to the beat yall..) Played a little youth soccer but one of the guys I knew from High School, who was from Nigeria, got me into playing and watching soccer.
Alright! Score one for Boring, boring Arsenal! Nothing beats Arsenal ex-pats. Up the Arse! Vive le AFC! OPArsenal
Hate to change the subject but there was nothing boring about Jennings, Brady, Rix and Stapleton et al. I guess in truth I was a fan of whoever Jennings played for. To the other guy. Swansea is a cool place!!! Cardiff City they were boring!
Getting to know Alex_1 No doubt, I'll admit to being a very mixed yank - that hasn't lived all the time in Yank-land. French and Brazil on my mother's half and, of course, African American yank on father's. I'm the guy with the short dreds and a killer smile. (no hopefully folks see the irony of when I make fun of the French football team). Football interest... hmm. Played a bit when I was younger. Brother into it. Sister into it. Father coached it actually - mother liked it. Grew up watching Brazil and my brother was a gung-ho US team fan. Always root for the US team - but not for most yank fans. Today: Father hates football. Puts him to sleep. As for MLS. Well, I was a Metro fan actually because my favorite US player was without a doubt Tab Ramos. Tried to get into the Revolution - just never did. Indifferent towards them. Real club interest? Aston Villa . You live there for a while, you see Santa Clause have a sky-diving accident in Villa Park, witness Collymore's repeated meltdowns and, well, your club ties are sealed.
Is a first-generation American someone who came to the United States from another country, or someone who was born in the United States but whose parents came from another country? -G
