    Preseason Result: Cagliari-Inter

The Nerazzurri followed up the 2-1 win against Bolzano with a 2-1 penalties victory over Cagliari to win tonight's three-team tournament at the Marco Druso Stadium in Bolzano.

Azzurri winger Mauro Esposito gave Cagliari a 4th-minute lead with a cracking diagonal strike from the right side of the area, but Inter were soon back on level terms when Uruguayan forward Alvaro Recoba found the top right corner with a spectacular curling free kick.

Antonio Langella went close to a second for the Rossoblu in the 18th minute when his curling shot from inside the box hit the left post.

The 1-1 draw in normal time forced a penalty shoot-out, won by Inter.

Yes. We didn't renew the loan. Bad move by Cellino IMO, not the only one.

We left Rolando Bianchi go back to Atalanta.

Many players have gone, few have come. Till 2 days ago we had no keeper. 2-3 more signings, at least, are needed.

The new keepers are Penedo (Panama NT) Is he good? and former Triestina keeper Campagnolo.

Iezzo, Maltagliati, Loria, Sabato, Brambilla, Albino, Alvarez, Del Nevo and Bianchi have all gone.

We signed U20 NT defender Canini, the goalkeepers, Cossu from Hellas Verona (he's from Cagliari).
Capone who was on loan to Treviso returned home (he's from cagliari too).

Our new coach is the former triestina coach Attilio Tesser.

We didn't sell Esposito nor Langella nor David Suazo (who got married few months ago with a girl from Cagliari).

The preaseason match vs Inter was actually a triangular (3 games of 45 minutes) between Bolzano, Cagliari and Inter (team b).

We have beaten Bolzano 2-1, goals by Capone and Cossu

I am not exactly happy with our market, let's hope for some good signings.
Cellino transferred to USA, he is living in Miami.

Penedo was a standout in goal for Panama during the recent Gold Cup played in the US...not sure he's ready to be a starter in Serie A however.

He did well in the Gold Cup. Also, he is very young. However, until recently he was not the starter for Panama. He normally splits time with Dolnaldo Gonzalez.
Anyway, he is talented but lacks size and knowledge. I think loaning him out to a lower league team would be good for him.

Any idea where Edagr Alvarez went?? I thought he was a quality player.

There are problems with Penedo's deal... his coming to cagliari is in serious doubt.

I read that Torino is interested to Alvarez.

I don't know why Cellino let him go... I also thought that he was an interesting winger. He had to learn a lot from a tactical point of view but he had the potential to do well IMO.

    Sorry McAvennie, no pics yet.

Cagliari has signed Conticchio and it is rumored to have signed uruguayan defender Bizera.
Peneda gone, the rumours talk about Inter's (and Uruguay NT) Carini being the most probable addition as goalkeeper.

it looks like Cagliari is trying to sign Genoa's Milito, a very difficult task given the multiple and more remunerative offers the player has. I am very pessimistic about it, or maybe I should say realistic.

Safcfan, we all expect David Suazo to shine this year, he has surely the skill to do it, past year was a really unfortunate one.
If he's going to shine as he should, many of Cagliari problems will be solved and we would have the same weapon which permitted us to easily avoid relegation last season, a powerful attack (Suazo, Langella, Esposito).

Some more signing are needed btw. Still too few players.

Cagliari was (shamelessly) waiting for the decisions on the troubled teams which lead to the rescission of their former contracts.

We would just be happy with Cellino selling to someone with more money and less craziness. :p

Nothing coming from Cellino will surprise me (us) anymore. No... maybe him doing good signings and spending money would... it certainly would.

hey welcome back sardus_pater....Cagliari didnt seem as inspired on Sunday as they did last season and certainly the crowd was small/subdued. I take it you arent the only one upset with management..

on the positive Suazo can really play and should do very well playing fulltime.

Thanks phillips, yes, it's hard not to get upset by Cellino's "management".
Sunday's match was boring (except the first minutes) and a bit alarming.
Let's hope for the best, a lot of work must be done.

Langella's crisis looks like it has been solved.

Suazo is very good, we knew, past season was unfortunate for him because of injuries otherwise he would have been a starter. Lazio defence has been really good to avoid he having the chance to play in open space where he is a killer more than langella is thanks to his incredible speed.

The real "?" are: how much will the team miss Zola? Will Capone demonstrate he is a serie a player? Will Cossu? Both are from Cagliari, both are talented, both are still big question marks at this level.

Will Arrigoni succeed in changing our schemes? Is it a good idea? We played a 4-4-2, sunday, with Esposito playing as a right midfielder.

 Arrigoni quits. WTF... it's becoming a joke.

    http://au.sports.yahoo.com/050916/3/9fhg.html

MILAN, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Daniele Arrigoni quit Cagliari on Friday, the second coach to depart the Serie A club after just two games of the season.
Fans protested against Arrigoni's reinstatement at last weekend's game against Lazio -- his first back in charge of the Sardinian team.

Arrigoni, who was in charge of Cagliari last season, returned to the club when Attilio Tesser was sacked after the opening day defeat to Siena.

    (...)

The club said in a statement that they accepted Arrigoni's resignation.

    Ballardini is the new coach.

    http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Squadre/Cagliari/Primo_Piano/2005/09_Settembre/16/ballardini.shtml

Succede a Daniele Arrigoni. L'annuncio ufficiale è stato fatto dai dirigenti rossoblù in una conferenza stampa nel centro sportivo di Assemini.

    Empoli - Cagliari 3-1

A disappointing second half after a good first half.

A match lost (3-1, fh 0-1) because of incredible amnesias in defence rather than because of Empoli's superiority.
All empoli goals the same, long cross from midfield to reach Riganò's head who assisted to a man left unmarked.
I can understand 1 time, it happens, but 3...

Ballardini has to work a lot.

Capone's goal, a beautiful goal following a beatiful solo by Suazo

Hi, I reaaly wonder what is the main problem in Cagliari? Four week with three different coaches. I watched two matches of Cagliari and thought the players don't want to play even want their team to lose. Absolutely this is not possible but there is something I can't understand.

Cellino's madness. The real problem, I should say disease, is Cellino (the owner of cagliari calcio).

We can't wait until he finally sells to someone else.

No, they don't want to lose, surely you can imagine that changing 3 coaches in 3 matches could be a bit confusing for them.
Also there are evident problems in the form of many of the players.

Let's wait and hope the new coach, Ballardini will make a good job. Both tactical and psychological. Till now he had to play 2 games without a single decent training session.

I think we have the quality to avoid relegation compared to other low level teams, surely performances have to better a lot.

Some good january signings could help a lot but I am not really counting on it, Cellino is Cellino.
