You better be right or you will be facing hordes of bigsoccer attendance dorks for your failed prediction!
that's only because they plagiarize other's predictions at the last second. they can't think for themselves. just look at the number of times some change their predictions at the last second.
RSL-CHV 18,000 NE-KC 12,022 CHI-DC 12,000 DAL-MET 15,000 COL-LA 13,002 SJ-CLB 9,567 <!-- / message -->
Changing my predictions as follows: Rsl-chv: 20,200. Ne-kc: 12,600. Chi-dc: 11,400. Fcd-met: 15,000. Col-lag: 12,600. Sj-clb:9,400.
RSL: 14,163 And this is considered bad for Salt Lake. RSL's two lowest attendances have come against Chivas.
I'm guessing the heat kept people away. Sunny and 99...ugh. I heard at one point it was 120 on the field. That would explain why everybody stopped running at about the 75th minute. Anyhow the west side, in the shade, was packed pretty well, but the north and east sides were more bare than normal.
As for SJ, man that market is shot. Then again, outside of Donovan they never have had marketable players. SJ always reminds me of a nice college team. Did they really draw 18k a game in the mid 90s or were those numbers inflated. The only way I can see that market changing is for them to have a more Hispanic precense. For that area, that means Mexicans. I remember the Mexican fans stating in the 90s that they would not attend games unless there were Mexicans. But for some reason, the Mexican experiment always failed in SJ. So much for Mexicans anyway, where are they for LA Chivas.
My theory is that the 4 PM start time, ESPN2 and the crappy records of both teams involved kept more people away than the heat. We will watch the BYU Cougars and the The Gridiron Team Formerly Known As The Utes in the snow; so a little heat won't keep us away. Also, Chivas 1.0 was on over-the-air TV on Sunday morning at 11 AM; so why pay to watch Goats Lite when you can see the real thing for free the next day?
Meh...RSL's bad record hasn't deterred the faithful so far, why should it have now? Especially coming off a win? And for a lot of people, especially people used to some cold weather like northern Utahns, there's a difference between 30 degree cold and 100 degree heat. You can put on a sweater and a coat and be fine in 30 degree cold. About the only thing you can do in the frying sun of 100 degree heat is strip, and you can only take that so far in public without being arrested.
