that's why you're wrong, you're comparing them to vieira and edu.

they both have experience with the first team.

We lost two experienced players and aside from bringing in Hleb, we have only brought in unproven, unknown talent.[/QUOTE]

edu isn't much of a loss and considering vieira's dramatic dip in form neither is he.

and that's been are fucking policy since wenger took charge at arsenal, it's a formula which has worked time and time again eg. toure, vieira, ljungberg, petit etc.

    You guys should panic.

You just let Phil Neville slip through your fingers, you coulda had a former England Captain for under 4 mil.

    Wenger must be slipping... :D

Im not just comparing them to Vieira and Edu, Im comparing them to CMs of our rivals, in England and in Europe.

Its IS much a loss and considering who we have to step in, Vieria is a loss as well.

    It doesent always work.

look we aren't in any worse of a position than we were last summer, apart from losing vieira.

Yeah, I mean two Doubles, an undefeated season, transfer surplus, new stadium next year, and polished gems like Ljunberg and Henry. Nope, doesn't work at all.

Let's all agree to stop moaning about how we are not Chelsea and we can't buy players like crazy for a moment, shall we? Remember what Wenger said: "I could understand that the fans would be frustrated if we played bad football and didn't win our games but not because we haven't spent money. That's not a reason to be frustrated." So, until we played bad football and didn't win our games let us start discussing on something more positive.

About Jenas, looks like he wants out:

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=338092&cc=4716

I really wonder what you guys think about him. When I first heard that we might buy him for 12 million as a replacement for Vieira, I was like "oh please, don't make me laugh cause the though of us doing that is just plain sickening!" But come think of it, he's actually quite a good player. He didn't perform that well last season (which Newcastle player did anyway?), but the season before that he was great. He could defend and pass well and would be a decent player to have. However, 12 million is still wayyyyy too much, but I wouldn't mind getting him for something less.

Agreed, no reason to panic, give the young guns a chance. If we fall this year, then all the doubters and pessimists will be sufficed, but didn't we hear the same smack two years ago and we went on to an undefeated season? Let Wenger be Wenger.

As far as Jenas, again, a panic buy is not necessary, however if he hands in a transfer request and puts pressure on the Toon, maybe we can get him on the cheap. Doubt it, but that's the only way I would want to see him come to the Arsenal.

vieira isn't such a big loss, ffs he's been underperforming for the past two seasons now, i think it was the right time he moved on.

if anything we're stronger with the inclusion of hleb who looks to be a real class player, but we'll see.

From what I heard he'll be cup tied only if he plays in the CL, he wouldn't be cup-tied if he plays in the UEFA cup or inter-toto since they are completely different competitions, don't know how true this info is but it does make sense considering the rational behind cup-tying someone.

EDIT: Ok, that info is probably false since i read this from the UEFA website: "No 1 is cuptied unless they actualy play in the championsleague. Inter Toto and Uefa cup dose not effect Champions League because it is a completely diffrent cup."

Any Owen move is definitely off the boil, but there might be something cooking with Jenas.
"Wenger also denied making a bid for Newcastle's unsettled midfielder Jermaine Jenas, but did concede, 'I am a fan of Jenas.' A bid for the England midfielder could be imminent."
Souey has been getting thrashed by the media this close season, perhaps he may be desperate to get some quick cash and make a reasonable deal? Here's the link for the entire story:

I personally have come to terms w/ my frustration (just about).
Doesn't look like were gonna buy any big name...and Wengers words ring true.
I will probably enjoy watching Arsenal much more this season...'cause I'd have a lot less expectation.
Time to get behind the boys we have out there and forget what coulda been. ...The season starts now.

BS. If you've actually seen the video of the interview you'll realise that it's a garbage quote.

The interviewer leads wenger into saying it by asking him flat out 'Are you a fan of Jermaine Jenas?'. What is he going to say, no I think he sucks? Typical dirty journalism. Wenger also immediately after blurting out defensively 'i am a fan of jenas' denies any current interest in making a bid for the player.

This is the non-story of the week.

WE DO Need to panic...we need a talented foward to help Henry and Reyes on there off nights. ....we do not need midfielders....I am panicing. Wenger needs to get off his ass and find a quick, young exciting foward that will not cost a lot....a young african from the french league or belgian league they have tons of them.

I would be real surprised if we went for Jenas. Not sure he can play the fast one-touch game Arsenal plays. Seen him cough up the ball a lot last season. Wenger fot it right with Bapista (and Real bids for everyone he wants). We need an big strong attaching midfielder who can break up the effectiveness of the 5 man midfield that everyone will play against us this season. I worry about the strength of Flamini & Cesc in such a setup. Jenas is not the answer for this.

    Wenger weighs up transfer options
    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?article=297129&lid=NewsHeadline&sub=Wenger+weighs+up+transfer+options&navlid=&sublid=&Title=Wenger+weighs+up+transfer+options

When asked about the French international defender and the Cameroon midfielder, the manager added: “Christanval is a central back and we already have four. As for Song, at the moment I have not made a decision.”

Doesn't look good for Christanval. Seems Wenger rates Cygan over him.Article also says that the Viera is down to a medical and coming to an agreement on financial negotiations (Doesn't say whether its with his old club or with the player on salary though)

Watching it, too, and I must admit it's giving me hope for the new season. We played that first half without Henry, Bergkamp, Ljungberg, and Campbell and still made the then-soon to be European champions look very ordinary.

Right now the biggest thing I'm worrying about for next season is how we'll do on set pieces. When Vieira played he was probably our best at defending in the air and we still weren't very good at defending them. I just wonder what will happen when he's not there to clear all those crosses at the top of his own 18 like he does.
