    Yup.

Also, with all the names the papers have thrown around over the last couple of months, for them to have no idea who Veiga "got" is suspicious as well.

They're trying not to jinx them again.

Second to worst case scenario is that it's some random Eastern-European international.

Honestly, I hope not just for Benfica, but the interest of the league that Benfica managed to get somebody who has proven himself abroad.

I doubt whoever it is Veiga is going to go get is Nilmar, as this would surely be the record for any contract-talk Benfica has ever made.

The thing is though, there is no reason for this. Benfica should NOT be running around to find these guys at this moment in pre-season (just weeks before the beginning of the season). To a point it's not just stupid but it's almost lacking in professionalism.

They bought their backup-squad buy before they even thought about the first team. That's surely a joke. Benfica should've had these guys they're going to sign the first day the transfer session began and they would've had an early start on any possible contenders. Imagine, if Benfica were just smart enough to put a bid in for Jon Dahl a week after the Taca de Portugal game, Jon Dahl would be wearing a red and white shirt that doesn't belong to Stuttgart!

I'd also just like to remind everybody, that Ricardo Sousa is still available, would be a great player to put in the number 10 spot, and he'd be yet another great set-piece taker. (I'm pretty sure he is still available at least)

For as much as i hope to see somebody on saturday i don't think Benfica will get any quality players from now until the season starts. The 4 new players have showned that they are good players but i think that will be it.

I`m a long time Benfica Fan , But I swear that if Vieira & Veiga don`t show up with something along the lines of Tomasson I will lose respect for them , why do they open their traps ( no pun intended ) and claim that a world class player with European credenditials is on the way if they can`t even sign an MLS player ...

SHUT THE ************ UP until you have the player signed for sure and I mean FOR SURE , like when he is sitting down at the press conference table wearing your jearsey and already has signed

I think a Zalayeta for Miguel straight swap is the best move right now because Miguel is an incredible distraction for the team right now ...

Also if he for some incredible reason wins his case with FIFA , it would set a precedent in the Superliga where all of a sudden players like Liedson of Sporting would claim the same thing if they don't make it into the champions league ... And JUVE KNOWS THAT !

So I think Benfica might get rid of the HOT PATATOE while someone still want's him and apparently Zalayeta Wants to come to Benfica because he knows he will play every single minute of play that Benfica plays ( in an open style of play which is not the case in SERIA A ) , which of course is great for him because he wants to be picked for the URAGUAYAN national team !!!

Things that make you go Hmmmmm !

Also, LFV has made a complete ass of himself by saying that Benfica are the "pioneers" of getting profits from stadium names. Is he really that ignorant to not realize it's been happening for years?

FedEx field, Empire Emirates Stadium, and I honest to god actually can't think of any names beyond that, but I know they're there.

Benfica don't have a hope in hell of winning a CL, just for the fact, they lack a quality #1 striker. Mantorras is too injury prone and Nuno Gomes isn't the player he was 7/8 years ago.

They need to find a bonafide #1 option or they will bow out in the early stages of the CL.

I agree with all your points, but I could see Benfica making it out of the group-stage depending the teams they get drawn with. Benfica's current striker may be deemed mediocre by most counts, but I see them capable of putting goals past most opponents. The problem with Benfica, IMO isn't getting a striker it's getting a tactic that fits the team.

I've always felt Benfica was fine in attack, some people don't like Gomes and Mantorras, I feel opposite, but what can you do. I think the number 10 spot isn't a huge problem either as long as Karyaka is fit 100% I liked what I saw from him against Chelsea. I think he could be pretty good.

That's just my personal take. Benfica have a team to compete well. I just don't rate Luisao or Geovanni highly, and there were options Benfica could've made within the Portuguese market for those positions, BUT no one at Benfica feels the same way.

I am very disappointed in LFV and Veiga. You should always be looking for players...always....is not 1 week before Supertaca that you are looking for two guys.....

Then they let Karadas go and not even get anybody (yet) for his position.

What can i say....with those two it will be a long year and a short CL.

I agree with almost everything you said except for not rating Luisao and Geovanni highly. I think Luisao is one of the best central defenders in Portugal and a leader on the field, and I think Geovanni is a solid player. Also, Benfica did sign Anderson to go along with Alcides as a backup to Ricardo Rocha and Luisao, and he might be the best central defender out of all of them.

I have to disagree. Benfica has a solid team, they have a better team than last year. If Benfica can get a hot streak out of Mantorras and/or Nuno Gomes (even though they're not really strikers, they're forwards), they will be fine upfront and score plenty of goals. Benfica should be able to atleast make it into the round of 16 of the Champions League, and hopefully go further than that.

Don't worry, Benfica will sign a striker. Who he will be and where he will come from is anyone's guess.

It seems a bit dodgy, but nothing is impossible. When it comes to the axis of evil (LFV & JV) my trust in them getting two more quality players is decreasing.

Why Does that Moron Set himself up like that ?

“Quando forem apresentados, vão perguntar como foi possível contratá-los”, afirmou Vieira,
( when the new players will be presented , everyone will say how was it possible to have signed them...)

Why does that imbecile do that ? Is he laughing at us or he really is naive a and thinks we beleive him ( Robinho, Kezman , Thomasson and I`m forgetting a bunch that were supposed to come to Benfica )

would somebody please Duct tape that idiots mouth before he embarasses us any further ....

To be fair, Luis Filipe Vieira never said Robinho or Kezman were coming, the newspapers did. The only players that Luis Filipe Vieira admitted that Benfica were trying to sign were Maxi Lopez and Tomasson. Both of which were actually close to signing, except both deals fell through in the end.

    More false hope...

Miguel Ángel Lotina has stated that it is Barcelona that appear to be holding up Javier Saviola’s move to Espanyol and that it would be a waste if he moved to Portugal.

The Parakeet’s coach is desperate to land the Argentinian striker before the start of the new campaign and is confident that a solution to the impasse can be found.

Saviola has said that he would like to join Espanyol on loan for the season as it would enable him to stay in the city, but reports suggest that Benfica have made an offer that Barca are interested in.
