This is one of my first posts on the Arsenal boards here, even though I follow them.

This may sound like a stupid question, but what will be the "traditional name" of the new Emirates Stadium? What I mean by this, was that Arsenal Stadium was dubbed Highbury decades ago, due to its location I believe. With the location of Emirates Stadium being near Lough Road and Ashburton Grove, what will it be called? I'm assuming either Lough Road or Ashburton Grove.

Somehow, I get the feeling that I'm way off. :)

NO ONE CAN STOP THE BOYS OF NORTH LONDON!!!

from what ive heard so far, its been referred to as ashburton grove by everyone. Sounds fine to me, Emirates Stadium sounds way too corporate. When old trafford is called the nike arena ,then we can call it emirates stadium.

Agreed. Ashburton Grove is a fine name. We can ignore the corporate name - it will change with sponsors, but it will Ashburton Grove until we build a new one and turn this into housing.

Officially it has no other name besides 'emirates stadium'.

So it's up to us supporters to make sure that the moniker that ends up sticking is Ashburton Grove.

So please, in any conversation that you have about it avoid calling it Emirates Stadium and refer to it as either Ashburton Grove or 'The Grove'.

Ok, first let me point out that I happen to agree with all of you and that I'd much rather have the new stadium be referred to as Ashburton Grove than Emirates Stadium.

However, in the long run, fans refusing to call it by it's corporate name can end up hurting the club. Companies will not want to pay out the big bucks Arsenal need to continue to compete in the Premiership if the stadium will not be referred to as Emirates. Of course, all the newspapers and official releases will say Emirates, so I'm probably overreacting, but fans can make a difference.

    guys,
be real. ofcourse everyone will call it emirates Stadium. i dont think the airline is investing millions in order for it to be called Ashburton or the grove. i know some fellow gooners are sentimental and live near by the area but do you see anybody calling the 'Reebok' stadium by any other name than 'Reebok'.
it will grow on everyone, believe me. yes, the ariline is sponsoring the stadium for 15 years but you can bet this is going to be an ever lasting name and sponsorship. you have many stadiums in the US named after corporations, actually named many years ago but they still have the tie ups with the corporations intact.

absolutely right. although i think Arsenal could have got alot alot more from the deal than what it did. I believe Emirates airlines came our as winners from this deal. however, i think emirates airlines will truly make Arsenal a global name. those guys are excellent in promoting the brand and marketing where Arsenal looks to be weak.

Emirates arilines/Arsenal can actually tap a very lucrative market like the gulf market(very wealthy). People atleast will buy the authentic paraphenelia instead of the fake ones the chinese buy. Also, i see many Arsenal fans around here already and this market can be very lucrative. I think i should apply for marketing position to market Arsenal stuff for this region ;) i think i will be able to sell few shirts.

i think you are talking about people you chat with.

officially, in newspapers, media, TV the stadium will be called emirates stadium and everyone outside a small circle will be calling it emirates stadium.
and if thats the name the heirarchy at Arsenal have picked, then don't you think the followers of the team should also be doing?

    Thats just my opinion..

A small circle of 60,000. Because the name Ashburton Grove was around for quite a while before the Emirates deal went through, I think a lot of fans will call it that. Obviously SKY and the corporate world will call it Emirates, but I think of it as Ashburton Grove

going to the Arsenal is a bit over the board.
Ashburton grove which is known to the locals or the emirates stadium which will be known to media world wide should do the trick.

Do you think "everyone outside a small circle" calls the current place Arsenal Stadium?

The media will call it Emerates Stadium, as they call the current home Arsenal Stadium on the televised matches. The fans will call it Ashburton Grove, as we call Highbury by its proper name.

thats what i meant SLO gunner. you can have one person who buys the authentic gear as opposed to 1000 chinese buying fake stuff that won't bring in a single dollar into the clubs coffers.

it may not be too big but people will pay the premium for authentic stuff.
the saudi market is not a small market (around 20 million) in population while being crazy about football and the young genration population(15-30) is around 60-65% of whom most watch or play football.

the other nations are relatively smaller but can attract a decent number of fans.
Arsenal's brand of footall has already attracted many fans but im sure with a bit of marketing Arsenal can make more, revenues wise.

Also, Iran is a huge market (70 mill) population and thats not a bad market to tap either.

Iran may have tons of football-crazy young people, but they just don't have the money to put down $90 for an authentic Nike Henry 14 Arsenal kit....so Iran's really irrelevant in this.

 Well done dough ball - the media will call it Emirates. BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO!!!! It's what the fans call it that matters. To us (who will be around longer than any media pundit) it will not be known as the Emirates stadium. End of.
