Was hoping we could get a point in San Jose...wasn't expecting a win since SJ has only lost once in like 25 home games. But what concerns me the most about last night was the manner in which we were beaten.

San Jose looked like Real Madrid out there compared to us, quick passing, movement off the ball, paticent attack. Our boys looked quite uninspired. Agoos was screaming at the guys to play hard..didn't help. We looked like we didn't have a clue what was going on..or how to play pro level soccer.

The two best Metro players were the 2 new guys getting their first games..Suarez and Danilio.

Mo needs to work with Abbe on holding position with his back to goal..too many times Abbe let the defender get around him to cut off entry passes. He needs to use his body to shield defenders.

As a team we need to work a lot on movement off the ball and runs into space. Its seems like guys just sit and wait and ball watch. This is something a coach should be hammering home. Bad players can be effective if they work hard off the ball and KNOW a system.

No total team effort last night.

Meola looked like something was bothering him last night maybe his injury or maybe his defenders..or both.

The backline was decent but left out to dry by the midfield. Ouyr midfield for the second straight games was just dominated.

Lot of keys guys are going to be out for a while...this could go from bad to worse quickly if we dont learn how to play inspired and collectivly.

I wasn't saying it was Meola's fault. Just that he's not his 100% and the Earthquakes were getting him on that far post each time.

Will Youri and Regan be playing on wednesday? Because they're not listed on the injured list anymore.

He looked awful slow going off his line after balls last night as I agree. seems slow right now.

It is the sad truth that at the moment, you kinda have to watch the MetroStars for the sake of watching the opposition's skill, because the Metro's side isn't showing any.

I was thinking about this this morning, drawing lineups on napkin.

    Maybe you play:

    ---------Razov

    -------------Youri

    Regan-----Gaven-----Bradley----Lisi

I'd like to see Gaven in the center playing playing off Youri. Each is good on the ball and it puts Gaven in a position where he's the center of the attack. They need to get him more touches and into the flow and with Amado out, I don't see that happening playing him wide.

He's been slow for a couple years......it wasn't a good pick up by Metro. They should have focused on another position. There was nothing wrong with Walker being a backup besides the fact that he didn't want to be one. Wells is in great form, at least he was when he was playing. Of course this is my opinion. But we should focus on getting someone who could actually play the midfield instead of Magee and Lisi. There HAVE TO BE better players.

    Two quick questions:

    1. Why are we still playing Magee when he has yet to show that he belongs on the pitch? Put him in the reserves, for gosh sakes, and bring in Stammler or Danilo or someone else who actually has skill.

    2. Why did we revert to the old "long ball and pray that we get it downfield" strategy that clearly didn't work at the beginning of the season? It's been done and failed, guys. Let's keep the ball on the ground for hard crisp passes.

Last game Magee was in a different postition to cover where Bradley usually plays. I think he's a decent player when you play him in his normal position.

Because we lacked the players to hold possession to create these kind of buildups-no Youri or Guevara.

It was risky playing the three forwards, but it wasn't as crazy as people here on these boards portray it. My guess is that Bob, knowing that we would have a difficult time holding the midfield, went with the tactic of trying to flood the offensive zone with forwards with the hope catching SJ on the transitions with quick, deep long balls getting to the three forwards ASAP. I think playing Suarez played into this thinking as well.

We just did a poor job at creating these type of opportunities.

Sorry, that link was bad. It's fixed now. It's to an article titled "Invisible Men".

Can't speak to your vets situation, but Barrett was gone for the last two years and is kinda new again to the Quakes. When he last played in MLS in 2002, our backline with him was Conrad, Agoos, and Dayak (and Eddie Robinson and Zak Ibsen got a lot of minutes); the midfield was Mulrooney, Ekelund, Corrales and Lagos; GoldenBoy, Graziani, and DeRo rotated up front. Cerritos is also just returned to us this year, after stints in Dallas, DC, and back home in El Salvador after DC waived him in June '04. They're Quake vets, but they're also, amusingly, part of our rebuild. Last year's losses requiring the rebuild: Agoos, Ekelund, Mulrooney, Corrales, Donovan, Dunivant- and lost this year: Ching, Dayak, Waibel.

Well, enough of that. After Dom Kinnear's first season, which was not an especially successful followup to Yallop's tenure (2 MLS Cups in three years) Quake fans have been pleasantly surprised by this year's performances- Dom found the knack of getting this team of journeymen to play w/EQ style the way Yallop taught it to the league.
