Never seen better especially since in a magazine that i have with an interview of Roberto it says that Scientists had said it shouldn't of been able to curve back like that bc it was "impossible" by their standards..

IIRC it's impossible if you consider the ball a perfect sphere which of course it isn't - it has indents in between the panels and of course the hole that you pump air into.

I once saw a "bird's-eye" view of the Roberto Carlos FK. Does anyone have that one? It was awesome.

That's an amazing FK. However, RC himself said that he scored from similar FKs more than once in La liga. My personal favorite is Eder's FK against Argentina in WC 1982. It wasn't a direct goal (probably the reason it is not widely considered the greatest ever) and Zico had to tap it in after the ball hit the cross bar and landed on the goal line. However, the swerve the Eder generated on the ball was mystifying.

Obviously, we've both discussed this free kick before as our favourite free kicks ever. And yes he didn't score, but nevertheless it should still be held in high regard in the same way Pele shot from midfield and didn't score and also dummied the Uruguyan keeper but didn't scoe.

What separates Eder's from R.Carlos's to me is Filoll's reaction compared to Barthez. I've seen many a keeper paralyzed and unable to move from a FK, but I've never seen a keeper dive in the "opposite" direction to a free kick from that distance before.

Very true. Roberto Carlos hit the ball toward his near post...goalkeeper thought it was going out and did not bother to move...it swung viciously inward and went in. Eder hit the ball toward his far post, goalie thought the ball was going toward his left hand post and went that way...the ball suddenly took a colossal swerve and went and hit the underside of the bar at the right hand corner...the goalie was still reeling from the swing and could not stop Zico (who ran in from outside the penalty box) from tapping it in. Eder knew that it was a goal the moment he hit it and was celebrating even before Zico tapped the ball in. That early goal had the same impact on Argentina as Adriano and Kaka's goals had in the Confed Cup 2005 final and went a long way in deciding the match in favor of Brazil.

Ilie Dumitrescu for Romania against Argentina at USA 94, in the second round. It was a free-kick from the left wing and Dumitrescu was positioned in a very tight angle. Dumitrescu managed to curl a long, high shot over the Argentinian defence, over the goalie, Islas and the shot went in at the far post.

Totti scored a great one against Inter this season. The look on Toldo's face after was priceless.

Go to this site, scroll down, and press on Goal #100. That's the free-kick vs. Inter:

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Branco's for Brazil against Holland in WC '94. From 30 yards out, he seemed to bend the kick in an S-curve, around the right side of a wall then back just inside the right post. It snapped a 2-2 tie and gave Brazil the 3-2 win, so it was significant to a high degree as well as wondrous.

I am not sure what players involved but therre is a goal that Brazil made in a WC where the one Brazil player was amongst the opposing players in the wall. Another Brazillian kicked the FK directly in the direction of his teamate in the wall, he dropped to the ground and the ball went right through the gap.

Gazza for Spurs against Arsenal in the '91 F.A. Cup semi at Wembley. I don't know if there's video of it on the web but, you've got to try and see it.
The ball was about 30-35 yards out and Lineker on his way into the penalty area said to Gazza 'don't waste it by trying to bend it, it's too far out. So, Gazza bent it and bladdered it all in one. The pre ponytail full power David Seaman hardly saw it as it smashed into the top corner.

That was Rivelino in Brazil's opening game in 1970 (4x1 over Czechoslovakia).

Help me out my Brazilian friends ... but I think Neto scored on a fou shot in Maracana against Flamengo that was from close to half field. I think it was from Neto. I wish I had that video.

I once saw Roberto Carlos score a FK from almost close to the center circle when he was playing for Palmeiras. That was one of the most amazing goals of all time, but hasn't been seen by many and therefore, not discussed as much as his FK against France.
