I doubt too...he didn't deserve the way he was fired, and he knows that...a real lifelong madridista like him don´t forget these things.

I must admit i am rather worried.
We still have not made any significant signings, especially in the midfield and defense, where they are monstly required.

Did you forget about García? One of the things we needed the most was another DM to play alongside Gravesen or to rotate with him. That's done.
Now, I agree that we need to cover some more places but in my opinion most of the starting team is done. We need, with all the rush, a good central back (CB or CD).
For us, to play with two DM and Zidane as AM, is like to play with two DM's and three AM's, because Zidane counts as three, hehehe. We need a good back-up for Zidane because Guti looks like he's going, something he needs, and he's no back-up, he's a starting team player. Many of you think Rosicky is the ideal player to cover that sport, and I don't stay apart. I think just like that, as I've said many times. After Rosicky, Luque would be good, because he'd add more depth for the team and we would have the freedom to change formation when we need to. So far, Rosicky and Luque.
Robinho, who is starting to look like "Mission Impossible" for us, should be our third signing. Young, awesome (at least in Brazil) and now is the time to get him because if he does well in Germany, he'll cost twice as much.
Last but not least, a central back. If Woody gets well, there is no need to buy two CB, so just one. Lugano (cheap and good), Ferdinand (experienced but expensive), Nesta (Mission Impossible Two), Chivu (expensive but very good), Coloccini (hard to get seeing as he just joined SuperDepor) would be very good choices. Of course, that is a personal opinion, you might disagree. I mean, on the good CBs. Of course there are more but just to mention some.

So, to summary: Ferdinand (just a name), Luque, Robinho, Rosicky.

Well, everything looks like he's coming (not selected for 'tactical' reasons....humbug!) and I couldn't be more dissapointed. Never liked the player, not in Depor, and not in the national team. After all the talk about Reyes and Vicente (yeah, bullshít from the start, but nevertheless) to then be left with Luque? Double :(

I think Luque is a good player but i agree with most that he wouldn't be top of my transfer list. I have never heard about Vicente even being linked to use but back in February i thought Reyes would be a dead cert. If he could emmulate the form displayed at Sevilla then he would be head and shoulders over Luque, however, surely you agree that signing Luque is a better option than signing Giggs or Pires? Latest i heard they were going to offer £7 million plus Portillo.

Real Madrid offer cash, Portillo for Depor's Luque
    Provided by: Frank Henriksen

Real Madrid are ready to offer Deportivo La Coruna £7 million plus striker Javier Portillo for Albert Luque.

Real GM Arrigo Sacchi confirmed yesterday that Luque "is a high priority signing" when speaking with Radio Marca.

It's emerged that Real intend to make the cash plus Portillo bid for Spanish international Luque, who is rated at £10 million by Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.

The Real offer interests Depor coach Joaquin Caparros, who is desperate to find a new striker after ruling out a return for Walter Pandiani.

"At the moment nothing is official," said Caparros. "It's only official when a fax arrives, or you get a call from a president or sports director."

"At the moment there is nothing."

Of course Reyes would be a great signing. But we aren't going to get every player we target - especially given our 'history' with Arsenal and the Vieira negotiations. Wenger has also added that he has no interest in Guti.

Like I said before, I like Luque even though he wouldn't be at the top of my list either. He has good experience, he works hard, and he has proven he can score some goals. The whole thing surprises me b/c it has come out of nowhere and b/c I swore he'd end up at Barcelona sooner or later.

The thing that really surprises me is that Florentino's first Spanish signing could be Luque and not Joaquín, Reyes or even Sergio Ramos.

As for Robinho, you may have seen on the Robinho thread that he has undergone a secret physical (that everyone knows about) in Brazil with Dr. Alfonso Del Corral there (he is the head of Real Madrid's medical services). This sounds encouraging, unless of course Teixeira knows nothing of this, gets pissed off and then goes off the deep end.

I agree that it was suprising to see Luque as Perez's proposed Spanish summer signing. Obviously Reyes is out of reach as he just signed a contract extenision at Arsenal but i'm not really suprised about Joaquin. Speculation was most intense during lat seasons' campaign, however, there has been little talk of it. Sergio Ramos may still follow Luque to RM but with the signing of Robinho likely to hapen soon i question wether they will be so easger to dive back into the transfer market. One major criticism i have of this whole Luque transfer is why sell Solari for 1 million euros andbuy Luque for possibly 15 million. I certainlly see no huge difference in quality but i am aware of the clause in Solari's contract which allowed him to go cheaply if he did not get regular football.

I can't understand why the managment would so stupid to add such a clause even if the player requested it...

Luque seems on his way to Real as Depor are desperate for a striker...

Real better go back and dive into the market because OWen needs to be sold if Robinho is in, and we still need plenty of help defense wise... Ramos would be help, but we obviously need another if Samuel is to leave... I hear that CHivu is avilable at 10 million...

I know the story of how signing big names ruined Real - but does anyone else get the feeling we need to sign some big names! :) I mean, Garcia, Diogo and maybe Luque (or even Giggs, Pires etc) are all decidedly second rate. I'd much prefer a midfield with Ballack than with Luque, and after all the Vieira bashing, now look at Juventus' team and hope we don't draw them in the quarter finals. I'm sure people will now tell me how great those players are, and how little I must know about football to even dream of putting them down, but as Chelsea found out last year - a great team will win you the league but it takes great players to win in Europe (unless it's a fluke - Liverpool, Porto, Dortmund :D )

You're telling me that Raul, Ronaldo, Zidane, and BEckham are not great players who at any one point in the game can change it's outcome....

Well, part of our problem has been that lack of these so-called second rate players. The thought with the current managment team seems to be that these type of players will allow our stars to play better. Last year the chant was "más hombre, menos nombres" ... well, we have some of that.

Yes, Juventus looks great on paper. A lot of teams look great on paper. But who knows what will happen. Personally, and I may be very wrong on this, I have a lot of trust in Sacchi being one of the architects of this new team. I think we are looking at the first wave of a 2-3 year process of renewing this side. In the meantime, I think we can challenge other teams for some trophies this year.

You know what, I think Sacchi is gone crazy... Pires, Giggs.... These guys are done. What are we doing? giving away Figo for nothing so we can get similar players, and we have to give up Owen in exchange...

I would be shocked... I repeat, shocked.... if either of those two come to Real Madrid. Shocked.

I was when I read the rumors... I ignored them thinking that there just somebody's imagination... BUT they just keep coming up and up again. And it's not like Real have denied them... However, it seems Luque is on his way to Real in the near future...

If Luque arrives i hardy think either will join. Between Giggs and Pires i would have thought that Giggs would have been the more likely candidate, however, i still see Giggs being linked with us to create yet more speculation about Owen leaving which would involve Giggs. If the signigs of Luque and Robinho are completed by the end of this week then surely all attention will turn to defense possible midfield. Zidane05, you are positive that Sergio Ramos is coming but with two big money signings are they not more likely going to wait a year or just go for someone cheaper. Edu Dracena was heavily linked but speculation has since quietned. Any other cheap suggestions who are likely and WORTHY candidates.

I agree with that - when Zidane came, Figo and Raul suffered. I think Garcia and Diogo are good signings. I'm not saying we should buy the 'team of the season XI', but I do think there's a limit to the amount you should have of these players in the first team. Buying a player from Everton is great when it works out (Gravesen), but buy too many - and you'll have Everton's team! I'm just saying you don't want too many Chiefs or too many Indians. Beckham, Garcia, Zidane and Luque to me is a weakish midfield, but maybe it's incomplete, right now.

I'm so glad to see that Robinho is on his way. I'm not sure how he will do his first year, but in 2-3 years he'll be one of the best players in la liga. The only way we should get rid of Owen is if it's in exchange for or to fund a cb. Owen is a better striker than Raul. I love Raul, but he must be forced to earn his spot as a starter. I would personally like to see him move on. We already are "forced" to play Becks because of his jersey sales and such but I'm sure Raul's merchandise value has dropped considerably over the last 2 years. Raul is not a natural am and so he shouldnt be played there either, Guti is by far better at the position. The fact of the matter is that everyone who defends Raul is living in the past. He was great, but something isn't the same for him and he's not producing anymore after having ample opportunities (2 seasons). He needs to GO! I hope he tears it up somewhere else but it's not happening in Madrid. If I was coach here's my lineup(including some transfer targets) and subs:
    ....................................Casillas........................................
    Salgado.........Ferdinand...............Woodgate.............Carlos....
    .........................Garcia...................Gravesen.....................
    Beckham..........................................................................
    ....................................Zidane........................................
    ...................Robinho.........................Ronaldo.....................
subs:Owen, Guti, Diogo, Helguera, Luque, Figo

This seems like the strongest (and yet realistic) team we could have this year. All of the subs would see some starting team and get plenty of chances to play. Zizou will not play as much this year leaving plenty of time for Guti so he should definitely stay. The only person who probably shouldnt be rotated is Ronaldo, but even he needs a break sometimes. The point is for the best possible team Real could have this year Raul should not be included.

    Has Ballack renewed yet?

I wouldn't mind getting him next summer on a free.

    Yeah, I know I am a cheapskate :)

Kind of ironic since the exact same could be said about Zidane and yet you include him in your ideal starting XI. Hopefully, playing Raul in his natural position will have a similar effect as it has on Zizou. It's still early in the pre-season.

It is a good point, a lot of people said Zidane was done, but on evidence of recent performance, that is clearly not so. I've always thought the same of Raul over the past seasons, such ability just doesn't disappear, he will come back strong.

I've seen Luque play for Deportivo a number of times.. can't say I've been particularly impressed..

Reyes is the best candidate, but I can't honestly see him coming to Real this season. If only Joaquin was left footed!
