My understanding is that he has a portion of his salary paid by his former club, which means he's making significantly more than $40k.

My goodness... I thought he had renegotiated his contract last season to get get much more than this... (even 40K from FCD + 40 K from Municipal is too little).. NO wonder he wants to leave on a free at the end of the season....

Where did you read that he had renegotiated? That was the main reason why we were able to trade for him.

thy shall honor the contract, that thou hath signed. Do you think that if he was paid $100K and scored 0 goals would he return a portion of his salary? Since when are players paid for past performance...? Players are paid what they are able to negotiate... besides to what Drum'rboy sez. That's the main reason we were able to trade for him; conversely the same reason why we (and MLS) might loose him.... ;)

So does this mean Carlos will probably be leaving MLS once his contract's up?

Otherwise, I would have thought he and MLS would have worked something out by now for a raise/contract extension.

Since his rights are technically owned by Municipal (I think that his club) in Guatemala its probably a bit complicated. Would he be re-signing with them? Doubtful. Would he sign a real contract with MLS? Maybe, but he might be waiting for the offseason to see if he can't get a look see from a Euro club. I know he had a trial with an English club last summer. I think we are going to have to wait until late in the offseason for this one.

I dont blame him, i would be pissed if i was amongst the leauge top scores for his whole mls career and a weak 16 yr old kid who,has never done anything significant in this league was getting paid more than me, and more media attention,

does the mls do end of season bounes?
by the way when ruiz went to spain w/LA during there preseason a team from the la segunda (spain 1st division jus right under la liga) said they were interested in signing him i forgot what team it was , but they will be particpating in la copa de rey this coming season..

so dont expect him to sign again unless they pay him atleast 200k ,oh yeah just to let you know how **********ed up is fincial sititaion, in la prensa they showed him driving a a 99' toyata corrala with dark a$$ tints, he tought when he was going to the Mls that he be able to get his dream car a
7series bmw.. Mls screwed the fish... and he takes it personaly

Possible places for Ruiz to sign next year:

    Spain
    Mexico
    maybe england lower divisions( championship)

Did MLS lie about the offer they game him? Did he not see the contract before he signed it? How, exactly, did MLS "screw" him? They are paying him what he agreed to be paid. When his contract is up they will offer him a lot more money, then he will choose to stay here or go somewhere else if he has other offers. In the real world, that is called "employment", not being screwed.

what i mean is when he heard that teams abroad were intersested in him, he thought he made more , pre MLS times.

when he sign originally signed with Mls he proably assumed he woulg go to europe, he was about 21 or 22

I'm sure if you threw league max at him (which he has shown he is worth), Ruiz would consider a renewal with MLS. Unless, of course, he can get a better deal from a Euro or Mexican club which is distinctly possible. Does the league consider Ruiz a marquee player worthy of splashing Donovan/Johnson/Adu money on to keep the talent level of MLS high? Who knows, but maybe they ought to.

The biggest problem this would present for Dallas would be absorbing another 200K under the cap after Johnson's raise. Basically you'd be looking at getting rid of Valakari or Vanney. Maybe both. Interesting speculation fodder for next season.

I still don't understand how that constitutes him being screwed by the league. Unless it is your contention that he screwed himself by playing in MLS? In which case that might be true, but I would argue that he is more well known now, having led the league in goals twice, then he was while playing in Guatemala. The profile of the league has to have something to do with that. Here's the bigger issue.....if there were European teams that were seriously interested in Carlos, he'd playing there right now.

from what ive seen of valakari you can get rid of him.. at the mid you got Rob thats all you need. and ramon nunez should be Mls Caliber by then vanney he can be replaced this current Defence can be somethin Next year

Mls is neglecting ruiz to renogtiate a better Contract, and its a slap in the face to carlos for the Mls to pay freddy Adu more Money

when i go to dc games he isn't anything special, all there is soccer moms with there 8yrs olds with fredy posters ( beside bara brava),its pretty Gay.. I wish dc had carlos your very Lucky to have him. if u do resign him, fc dallas will be up there with la galaxy as far as Top notch Mls organizations, Dc United is a joke even thought they draw more fans , he is the biggest steal the Mls ever got .like i said at least 200K and he will stay for a couple years...even though for what he has done already this yr, he is worth more, and juggling duties with guatemala and Fc dallas he can still put em behind the Net.

I must admit, I dont follow the MLS much, but i can see how Ruiz could feel screwd over by the league. Why no renegotiation of his contract after he is among the leading scorers for so many years? Why do they (the galaxy) ship him away so fast once donovan becomes available? Again, not that I necessarily agree with it, but i understand if hes upset with the league as a whole.

Bingo , you hit on the head, La gives him away as soon a landon becomes available.... Mls gets on their knees for Ld (mls is a Crackhead), then they send you to another team, and you get paid less by a kid who has a 50/50 of being good, lets be honest is he gonna get any larger . who fills up more stadiums with guatemalans, ruiz for 40,000 and what is municpal paying him it can't be getting more then another 40k right possibly 20k more? even he said that the Mls is runned like slave trade, a lot work and no money for intl players and they move you when ever they want too, only $$ for the Usa Boy wonders, no wonder Mls doesnt attract big Name signing at there best..

I'm sure if MLS makes him the best offer in the offseason, all will be forgiven.

I think he is in our long term plans and I think GE wants him around and will move (or push people who do this) money around to resign him, come on there is no way we are thinking about keeping him at that low of $$$...somethings not adding up here...
