Wells--5.5 Reis MIGHT have stopped that rather lucky shot to the far post. I'm finding it hard to have confidence in Wells overall. Leitch--6 Solid on D, helped on offence. Didn't play as many horrible long balls as usual. Parke--5 Just put it out of play, Parke! Again, already! Agoos--6 Solid. Putting in Mendes at the 72' and putting Agoos out wide really helped shore up central defence at the time Agoos's legs are growing tired. Regan--6.5 A good game showing hustle for all 90' and doing a lot of organizing on the D. Stepped up into a D-mid role well. Bradley--5.5 OK. Lisi--5.5 Decent performance. Neither Lisi nor Bradley showed why they NEED to be on the field instead of a possibly soon to be acquired Barret, or even a Regan to D-mid permanently move. I predict that Pine is in the future for one of these two in the near future. Guevara--8 The vast majority of Metros chances came as a result of his passing. Dribbles a bit too long every now and then, but he shows excellent ballskills. Gaven--7 Scores a great goal, and got in a few dangerous situations, but didn't make his presence consistently felt in the attacking third or even on the right hand side. Razov--7 Draws the PK, but that was a bit lucky--he didn't exactly get clobbered or tripped. Put a great freekick on the goalpost. Skied a few shots too, though. SGR--6.5 All over the field, and he would have gotten a 9 if he had put one in the back of the net. He might not have Ibrahim's speed, but he's got twice the vision and three times the touch. Definitely deserves to keep his boots on the pitch. Magee (65' for Bradley)--4.5 Did you see that horrible headed back pass? Maybe he contributed in helping Metros put in the go-ahead, but I didn't see it. Ibrahim (71' for SGR)--6 Played fine, and the 20' will give him some confidence after the operation. Metros looked more dangerous before the change than after, so SGR shows he continues to deserve his place in the starting 11. Mendes (72' for Lisi)--6 Kept fresh legs in the back to counter Galaxy's fresh legs. Showed he could go in and help close a game down. Coach Bradley--7 He must have read all our irate posts on substitutions, because he used all 3! I like Magee for Bradley (when Metros needed the go-ahead) and Mendes for Lisi (when Metros needed to wrap up the game). But why Ibrahim for SGR when we're up a goal and SGR's playing well, plus giving SGR a bit more time to connect and put one in the back of the net will keep his confidence high. Why not Mendes in for SGR first, and then if LA somehow ties the game, we can go back to 2 forwards up top with a Ibrahim for Lisi substitution. Still, game won. 'Nuff said. Shep Messing-- 6.5 Does a good job getting excited, and he likes the SGR - Razov combo ( to his credit), but I think he was downplaying the importance of Metros dominance of the possession at the close of the first half. Keeping possession is what the Metrostars have been poor at when ahead, so it was nice to see that they can actually do it!
Agree with the ratings specially Bob's Bradley, (I hope he didn't get in trouble with his wife because mini bradley's subtitution ) , the defense still get me nervous but was very important that we got the 3 points.
I was watching a diferent game, becaus what I see was Galvan missing like 8 opportunities on dead goals and that's why he no deserve a 4 in a sacale of 1 to 10, also do not deserve to start especial now that Ibrahim is ready.
Agree with Wells. Scary. Lisi, Bradley, and Regan- I thought Regan was decent at LB, but horrid at D-Mid. Made a few terrible plays there, most noticably the long header back to Wells (wasn't Magee) and the bad tackle on Jovan. Bradley and even Lisi are light years ahead of him there, IMO. The only position he really seems comfortable in is Center Back. Please Tim Ward, come back soon. Magee-Looked decent. Was NOT him who headed that ball back to Wells. No criticism of Razov for the same reason, eh? Typical. SGR was much more involved creating dangerous chances for others as well.
I was actually hoping Suarez would come into the game rather than placing Ibrahim into the game at that time. rey looked fine to me both in terms of his play and also endurance.
Disagree on Wells, Regan and Bradley. The LA goal was the only SOG they took. If Gomez or any other human being could take that shot consistently 50% of the time, they'd be up for MLS MVP. Give Gomez credit. That shot was not Wells's fault, IMHO, as it was curled from left to right, struck the post and went in. There is no goalie in the league that would stop that shot. Another point. If Wells dives as Shep (the great goalie coach) suggested, he would've been totally out of position for a possible rebound off the post back into play. The response then would've been that Wells should know what balls he can get to and those which he cannot get to, and he shouldn't lay himself out for an impossible shot and leave the net open for an easy put back! I don't mind being harsh to Wells when he messes up as in the LA and Columbus matches. But criticism should be deserved, not because he looks like a good whipping boy of the moment. Tim "Bonehead" Regan almost singlehandedly blew the game in the last 10 minutes of the match, between his stupid foul outside the PA and his even dumber header. If anyone deserved a 3 or less, it was this guy. As to BB, I don't think he listened to us BS'ers at all. BB didn't want to use 3 guys, namely, Suarez, daSilva and Stammler, when he had a lead to keep. He subbed in Magee, Ibrahim and Mendes for the LA game which must mean that he feels more comfortable with them than the other 3 guys who DNP again. I tend to agree with most of your other ratings.
You actually think Wells didn't react because he consciously thought "I can't get to that ball, and if I dive, I'll leave myself open to a rebound."? It was such a quick play, that it seemed pretty clear to me it was one of 2 things -he didnt think it was going in at all - bad play -he got caught flat-footed so made no reaction whatsoever - bad play
substitutions, he used all 3! I like Magee for Bradley (when Metros needed the go-ahead) and Mendes for Lisi (when Metros needed to wrap up the game). not exactly rocket science is it though really? put a striker on for a midfielder when your losing and defender for a midfielder when you dont want to concede.. i think its pretty obvious. all in all though a good 3 points... (and if i could be bothered to trawl back through the posts i would find mine after the metro's v san jose game saying regan should play D-midfield! )
