It seems DC United and/or The Organization Known As Champions' World have bought underwriting time on WETA to plug The Clash Of Champions vs. Chelsea FC. "This program is made possible by a grant from DC United ..." Wow. Almost fell out of my chair! Will the tote-bag and Garrison Keillor crowd come out, especially when they see the buzzing Barra razzing the Lions?
No kidding. Not a bad idea to target that crowd. I'm sure there's a strong overlap between the local public radio audience and the European/Europhile crowd that ought to be interested in the match.
I would assume these come on during BBC programs? (Brit-Coms, BBC news, etc.) I guess it's one way to hit the Anglophiles, we'll see if works. K
IIRC, BBC World News isn't broadcast on NPR in DC until like 12 midnight. You're better off just listening to the BBC radio online.
It is still on at 5 a.m. Unfortunately I get to listen to it most mornings. I heard the ad this afternoon at about 6:30 during the regular news on WETA. I can't wait for the WETA/DC United tote bag.
No, it's on WETA at 5:30 - 6:00 a.m. a whole lot of people in the DC area are commuting to work at that hour. I also heard it this morning, but it was around 07:45 a.m. At least they're advertising somewhere.
I listen to BBC in the morning every day. It's around 7-8am on WETA. Of course today it was on all day.
WETA has the BBC world news on from 5-6 am and then the BBC newshour on every weekday from 9 - 10 am followed by the BBC World Briefing. These are listened to heavily, and not just by anglophiles. WETA moved them to the equivalent of their "primetime" from the overnight spot. Brilliant marketing by DCU. Tim
So you're looking at a thread that has a segment of the European/Europhile crowd posting that they heard the public radio ad...Hmmm, didn't know so many of us tote-bag and Garrison Keillor types were also BigSoccer, DC United supporters. Go figure... At least we're not Eurosnobs
