Brilliant ... a true poker game.

Steve was probably expecting more money, and expressed it. Parry an Benitez decided it was a no-go ... and made public that Steve wouldn't renew after offering him 100.

Now Steve has to confront the Red fans and the media ... holding his position with no other way out than that he wants to win more trophies. Couldn't talk anymore on money.

After a day where he was suppossed to have disconnected himself from tv and phone calls (which I highly doubt), he sees the reactions of the fans and media.

He is pushed into the corner of the negotiating table. He has the ball on his courtside ... he wanted more money (perhaps matching the 130 Chelski suppossedly offered- high balling the whole renewal) and saw he had become nothing more than a bill of exchange.

I say, props to Parry and Rafa for setting a limit on to how much Liverpool was willing to pay Steve. And of course welcome back Steve ... we all know you never wanted to leave, an in the process made Steve learn NO ONE is bigger than Liverpool.

Did you actually read what you wrote? Spain's starting left back!!! what sort of high calibre player is that? oh by the way we just signed a starting left back from a country that hasn't got past the group stages of the world cup since Bodicia was a Chariot Maker.. But hey whatever

So I wonder if he is staying for sure.

Many people on bigsoccer are quite pathetic in the way that they will neg rep a person just for speaking negatively about their favorite team, without trolling. I get negative rep from Chel$$$$$$ and Manutd supporters all the time.

    Re: He is NOT going!

I can't say I am surprised, I'm no Liverpool fan, but I believe that Gerrard loves Liverpool and I am sure he was only going to leave because of SFX putting thoughts and ideas into his head and he has signed a contract until 2011, which is very goof for all Liverpool fans, lets just hope he allows his football to do the talking because he has a lot to do to win back some Liverpool fans.

Well, father said, "See my son coming home to me
    Coming home to me"
Father ran and fell down on his knees
Said, "Sing and praise, Lord have mercy on me"
    Mercy

Oh poor boy stood there, hung his head and cried
    Hung his head and cried
Poor boy stood and hung his head and cried
Said, "Father will you look on me as a child?"
    Yeah

Well father said, "Eldest son, kill the fatted calf,
    Call the family round
Kill that calf and call the family round
My son was lost but now he is found
'Cause that's the way for us to get along"
    Hey

    Re: He is NOT going!

I'm glad he's apparently staying. A move away after what they accomplished in the Champions League was just astonishing to think about. I know I don't speak for everyone, but for this non-England aligned football fan...Steven Gerrard is the face of Liverpool, the player identity of the club worldwide, and it would have been a big hit to lose him both locally and abroad.

Hopefully, now he can focus on what's really important and that's working hard to build on the success that last season ended with. The Champions League triumph was living proof to themselves and the world that they can be among the very best, and in my opinion, that is exactly where a club with the tradition of Liverpool belong.

Just saw it, he says he wants to put it all behind him. I'll give it to him for offering up the captaincy, that took guts, as did coming back.

    Yeah thats it.

Im really going to go through countless pages of "Were better off without him" just to find the "God Bless Stevie" Posts. I honestly dont know what the mods were thinking merging these thread. How would this make it easier for anybody?

I don't really he want him to be the captain, at least right now. I think his credibility as a leader took somewhat of a hit after this whole episode. It's going to take time for him to garner the respect required of a captain.

With or without gerrard ,we are still Liverpool F.C,so im happy gerrard stayed but if he didnt wana play for us,then i wouldnt have been bothered if he left us.I dont know what changed his mind, but i think Carragher should still become captain anyway!

Well your wink was at the very bottom of the post, yet you claimed Gerrard is a primadonna at the start of the post, so unless everything between you calling Gerrard a primadonna and the wink where also tongue in check, i think i can be let off, just this once:D

Nico started out by being sarcastic, then when his agent read his post, he told him to add a little more wit. But then his girlfriend gave it a read through and she said, you know you should throw some opinion in there too.

Nico slept on it and in the morning claimed it was a misunderstanding and didn't we know it was a joke all along.

The Mods were busily burning effigy's of Nico and baying for his blood but then they too saw the barely disguised joke, looked up the word sarcasm and didn't even give him a yellow card, but a free membership package and free avatar design for life.

Such is (big)soccer these days. ;)

Probably not much. According to Rafa himself, he did not feel the need to sell Stevie to finance acquisitions. And £35 million is chicken scratch-- Gerrard is worth much more.

I completely agree with you. Gerrard is one of those players that is hard to replace no matter how many signings it may take. The money would have been nice for Rafa, but Gerrard is even better then the money! Let's just move onto the season and CL qualifying now...please.
