Re: Gold Cup TV Man, this so unbelievable sucks. Horrifically sucks. I drive by their office building every day when I drive to/from work. Guess I'll have to go knock on their door and see if they'll let me watch the games there. ...or maybe I'm wrong? TX Austin KBVO-CA 51 Maybe it's a broadcast station rather than a cable station.
Re: Gold Cup TV Looks like it is. So I may not be totally out of luck. Now to find someone with a TV with a good antenna. Anyone got those anymore? This feels so 1990.
can anybody confirm that there is gonna be a small (4 teams) tournament in LA sometime in January 2006?... the word is that in addition to US other participating teams are Mexico, Argentina and Iran....
In 2002 the Gold Cup was help in the January/February timeframe. IIRC, that's where DMB roofed a shot in extra time to beat Korea. Might this be something similar in a World Cup year?
Here's another offhand mention of the German/US friendly (no details): Germany have 11 games left until World Cup
No chance. Not with the Gold Cup in summer 2005. If they wanted to shift the Gold Cup back to January, it would be a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 year cycle. Gold Cup History http://www.us.terra.com/goldcup2005/historia.html
Thanks for the link. I didn't mean to imply that the Gold Cup would be repeated again so soon. They could simply call it the US Cup or something, as a way of getting the prep matches in.
This is not confirmed at USSoccer.com. What a travesty that would be to have the USMNT play in a fourth consecutive meaningful match (WCQ vs. SLV, GC vs. CRC, GC QF vs. tbd, and possibly this) in that football stadium since its last friendly (1/04 vs. Denmark) at HDC. I think USMNT also played a friendly vs. HON at Gillette in 2004. And its not like the MNT can fill Gillette, what was last night's attendance with first place in Group B on the line?
perhaps the owner of the stadium in foxboro being a soccer friendly guy means he gets some deals sent his way.... still, look at the mediocre attendance at gold cup in boston...be interesting to see if 20k is reached on saturday... christ all the mexican fans is LA and houston show up for their team.....when the usa packs the stadium for gold cup round matches, then we'll know the game has arrived in this country...the base isn't quite there to get huge crowds for 2nd tier matches.
I agree. (I was pleased to see Houston last night, including a decent smattering of Jamaica supporters.) Note that last time MNT played at HDC, a meaningless friendly in January 2004, off-MLS-season, before WCQ even started, we got nearly 11,000 there against Denmark. Panama presumably has more supporters in LA than does Denmark, and with this being the last meaningful match at which supporters can send off the Nats to Germany, I would think USA supporters would easily fill HDC. If this game does go to Foxboro and they sell more than 30k tickets, I will apologize, but my position is that it is a big mistake to put it there, not to mention unfair to California-based MNT supporters. The one argument I can see for putting it in Boston is that it makes it easier for Euro-based players to return. But is there any real concern that the game will be so important to win that we would even need to play the Euro-Yanks? I'll grant that the Costa Rica match was up against baseball's All-Star game, but that was very weak attendance.

I am at a loss for words. ESPN Classic? I don't get that or Telemundo now. I guess I should pay more attention to this forum. Now I have absolutely nowhere to watch the game. No bar in town is going to take the TV off of college football or poker to watch soccer.
