Schedule

  1. I am thinking to go to Germany in August of this year.

Anyone know what the Bundesliga schedule will be this year? Cant find it on line.

I plan to go to Munich, so think I could make it to a Bayern game or a Stuttgart game, or maybe even Nurenberg, but do not really know the relevant distances.

As mentioned before, schedule isn't out yet, but the matchdays in August will be August 5th-August 7th, 13./14. and 20./21. The first round of the DFB cup will be 27th and 28th.
Depending on the distance you are willing to travel you have several opportunities to see a game. Munich could be quite hard, cos with the new stadium I think their games will all be sold out. Apart from that you could drive to Nürnberg (app. 170km) and Stuttgart (230km), Kaiserslautern and Frankfurt are about 400km away from Munich.

Exact schedule will be published within next 14 days, I guess. For the moment this might help you:

if you want to see the new stadium in Munich, you should be able to get a ticket to a 1860 2. BL game I suspect.

Yea, Bayern's entire season may be sold out very fast, 1860 have less support, thus less fans, thus more of an opportunity to see them.

If you want to see 1. Bundesliga, Stuttgart is not too far away and neither is Nurnburg. Nurnburg is in the same province (bavaria), and they don't sell out most of their games (go to games against bad teams like Wolfsburg who don't capture the imagination like Bayern or Schalke). Stuttgart maybe more difficult, since they have a good team, but if you go see a traditionally crap team, then you should find some seats.

As the other guys told you, with the new stadium being open, all the Bayern matches will probably be sold out. However, if you are willing to chance it, there's usually scalpers outside the stadium selling at "lightly inflated" prices, depending on the opponent.

Having lived in that area of Germany (Near Nuernberg myself) for most of 15 years there, I can tell you that depending on the opponent, you can almost always get tickets for 1. FC Nuernberg.

Nuernberg is 90 minutes north of Munich on Autobahn 9 (A9). The prices of train travel from Munich to Nuernberg isn't bad either and trains run frequently. You might even want to check on one of the "Discount Airlines" flying between Munich and Nuernberg. In many cases, that's cheaper than the train now.

Stuttgart is a bit over two hours northwest on Autobahn 99. I don't know about the train prices between the two cites. And as with Nuernberg, you might even want to check for one of the discount airlines flights.

In the Munich area, you also have 2. Bundesliga football with 1860 and Spvgg Unterhaching. In the Nuernberg area, you have 2. Bundesliga football with Greuther Fuerth.

Frankfurt is another two hours north of Nuernberg. You would switch from the A9 to the A3 in the Nuernberg area if you are driving. The "Kreuz" or "junction" where the two Autobahns meet is almost right after the exit for the Frankenstadion area on the A9.

If I remember correctly, the Waldstadion, uh, excuse me, Commerzbank Arena, isn't far from the A3 exit.

Mainz is also just about another 30 minutes from Frankfurt, but I doubt you'd get tickets for them.

Just in case you are interested, Koln and Leverkusen are another two hours (actually a bit less) north of Frankfurt on the A3. It's pretty hard to get tickets for Bayer Leverkusen depending on the opponent. What's funny about Leverkusen is that the stadium is right at the "kreuz" of the A3 and A1, but you can't just get right off the A3 and drive right to the stadium. You have to drive through the city.

I'm not sure about Koln's ticket situation or the proximity of the stadium to the Autobahn. I was always drinking and not driving when going to the old Mungersdorferstadion.

BTW, just before Frankfurt on the A3, there is an exit for the A45 and Dortmund is about two hours north of the exit on that Autobahn. The Westfalenstadion isn't far from the exit, but that's a lot of driving!!

Hey, I'm a Dortmund fan! I had to throw that in there!!! LOL!! :)

    Happy travels!!

  9. Thanks for all the info!

Not sure what to do about Munich being sold out, but maybe I will try ebay when the time comes.

My wife is a Ballack fan ...
