It's a funny topic. Some guy pointed out that there was some disrespect shown when the anthem was played. That was confirmed by a number of posters in your group. What more needs to be discussed?

For those of you who feel you are patriotic, great. Kudos. For those of you who were in the ********, even more.

For those who listen to 910 am, huzzah!

And tex has a broomstick up his ass and poor singing tone.

    ski cap girl here:)

i for one never sing the national anthem, mainly because, well, i cant sing. i think i speak for the entire inferno that we all are patriots here, and dont mean to disrespect our country. me and my fellow posse member gina usually have an ongoing joke of trying to make one another laugh during the anthem, but we never mean any harm by it.

as for the date wednesday- um, i have plans- to watch fcd win!!! ohhhhh snap!:) haha, seriously though, the inferno is a great group of people and if you want to sit with us, feel free to. but hitting on me isnt allowed

Since this thread is full of National Anthem pet peeves, may I share my own.

You place your hand over your heart while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Not the National Anthem.

As for the singing of the National Anthem, I don't mind it when it is sung poorly, if not on purpose, but I really hate it when the singer overly tricks it up thereby drawing attention to their singing rather than the National Anthem.

Actually I learned pretty recently that it is appropriate to put your hand over your heart for the singing of the National Anthem. If you do a Google search you can find this several places in reference to National Anthem flag etiquette: "During rendition of the National Anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the Flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, and hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain the position until the last note. When the Flag is not displayed, those present should face the music and act in the same manner they would if the Flag were displayed there."
I'm with you on the tricked-out singing of the National Anthem. It should be sung simply and reverently.

I've heard that it's also proper to remove one's hat during the Anthem if.........said person has not glued it to his head!

ALthough I've said many things that add credibility to your comment....

For a long period of time ... back in the day when Men were men and women wore skirts, hats and gloves, these (hats) were often affixed w/ pins and other assorted forms of fasteners that would make it impratical for the ladies to remove their hats and later affixed them, much in the same way that ladies do not have to remove their hats @ church or in public buildings.

[soapbox] Thanks the Lords of Cobol that Ray and Whitney don’t subscribe to that bunk, otherwise, we’d all be deprived of the two greatest performances ever for the Anthem. Being an American, if anything, is about freedom of individual expression. What greater way to express nationalist pride is there than sing the Anthem in a way that emotes passion? Artist have the implicit right to “trick out” any popular song they’re covering. [/soapbox]

I differ. It's an Anthem and not a song... the right to trick out the National Anthem is not implicit but inherit, much in the same way people have the right not to appreciate a particular rendition...
