A new defender would be required as Fiorentina are in negotiations with Real Madrid to sell Tomas Ujfalusi. The Czech international is said to be the subject of a £7m bid from the Bernabeu outfit, an offer Prandelli is unlikely to reject.

I like Ujfalusi. Can he play defensive midfielder too (a la Rafa Marquez)? 7 million pound is a bit over the top, though.

I don't think Henry is the kind of forward we need. I think we should have at least one bigger, fighting target guy.

Henry is very good, don't misunderstand me, but he's too similar to Ronaldo or Owen.

And I'm cool with Baptista playing as AM.

I'm not claiming extensive knowledge, I'm just saying I liked what I saw of him in Euro 2004. And I said the fee is too much anyway.

More noise in the papers on Samuel and Solari to Inter. Looks like there is something there.

Also, AS is reporting that our third signing, after Pablo García and Robinho, will be Uruguayan defender Carlos Diogo. Diogo is 21 and currently plays on the right side of the defense for club (River Plate) and country. Important to note that his mother is Italian so he would not be an EU issue.

I can't say I know a great deal about this player (time to do some homework) but the write ups in AS are pretty positive. Anyone have some insight on this kid?

I don't like this development. Hopefully Perez will do the right thing.

Everton, Liverpool approach Real Madrid for Helguera
    Provided by: Frank Henriksen

Everton and Liverpool are being linked with Real Madrid centre-half Ivan Helguera.

Real Madrid chiefs are considering selling the Spanish international and would prefer to move him onto a foreign club.

Both Everton and Liverpool have been active in the Spanish transfer market in the last 12 months and have registered their interest with Real for Helguera.

Real Madrid wait for Garcia's agent
    Provided by: Frank Henriksen

Real Madrid intend to close the deal for Osasuna midfielder Pablo Garcia inside the next ten days.

The Uruguay international has already agreed terms with Real Madrid and Osasuna have tentatively accepted a £6 million offer for the hard-working defensive midfielder.

But everything is on-hold while Garcia's agent is out of the country. Paco Casal is currently in Buenos Aries, but will jet back to Spain later this week to finalise his client's move with Osasuna supremo Patxi Izco.

This is not good for RM, but is good for Mejia - since Luxa won't give our young star any playing time.

Bundesliga clubs circle Real Madrid's Meija
    Provided by: Frank Henriksen

Real Madrid stopper Alvaro Meija is being chased by several Bundesliga clubs.

The young centre-half almost joined Feyenoord in January and has been granted permission by Real to speak with interested clubs during this summer's market.

Racing Santander and Mallorca are also keen, but there are bigger offers on the table from German clubs that Meija's representatives are currently sifting through.

Everything's open to Gerrard, supposedly he's waiting for Madrid to talk to his agent.
Arsenal will not be able to retain Henry.
Pablo Garcìa's deal will be closed in ten days.
    Robinho's deal too.
    Diogo deal is nearly closed.

Do you believe all that? I don't.

Of course not. And you shouldn't believe everything from Reuters or AP either. I only put the rumors in here I think are true.

As far as Ballack goes, he is a great player. But I don't believe he is coming to RM this summer either. I believe the story that says he is going to let the last year of his contract run out & be a free bird.

If solari leaves, he wont be missed. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, but he was never IMPORTANT to the club. Samuel on the other hand is one of the top central defenders of the world, and I think his second campaign for real would be better than his first. I hope he stays.

It seems as though diogo is one of the hottest defender prospects in the argentine league... but then again that information isn't necessary right. but real will need a right back, salgado isn't growing younger, and if he's injured miñambres isn't a man to replace him. to me diogo would seem a good signing.

i say ramos would be a better signing then diogo. though i have never heard or seen anything about diogo, i think the club should go for a spanish player who already has experience in la liga and whose playing for the nt sounds better

Henry was never going to happen, he's stated over and over again that he's happy at Arsenal and wants to see out his playing career with them (no matter what the media might have you think). There's no way he'll leave Arsenal a year before they move into the new stadium and this being Highbury's last year...Henry is committed to the cause and wants to win the CL here.

....and he's been waiting for how long it was?...he may die waiting, you know...either way, I am not sure he is what we need right now, and he is already getting old.

Actually yes, I thought Ramos was the priority. He is Spanish (forgotten promises....), he also plays CD, and he has much more projection than the other, plus experience. Hell, what do I know.

    Why?

No more "Galacticos", please. Look at what happened with Figo this season. There's no more room for easily bruised egos.

I'd much rather have good and solid/steady players in positions where we sorely need a replacement starter [e.g. CB . . unless Woodgate makes a miraculous recovery, LM] or backup [e.g. RB, LB, DM, CAM].

I doubt Gerrard is going to leave Anfield, C. Ronaldo wouldn't be a bad pickup but only for the right price. Regarding Shevchenko, we've already got Raul, Owen and Ronaldo, plus (hopefully) the addition of Robinho this summer, I really don't think we need another world class striker. If only we ran our offense through Raul like a couple of seasons ago and had either a better CAM or revitalized Zidane, I think things would pick up and a lot of our problems would be solved.

I think Carlos Diogo from River Plate is a pretty sure signing. Turns out, his transfer rights are not owned by a club but by an individual (Uruguayan entrepeneur Paco Casal), so his transfer would be as free as it can get these days - right now Casal has him on loan to River Plate, and he can withdraw him, apparently. He's young, not bad from what I hear, and can play right back, left back, and a bit of midfield in case of emergencies.

As a side effect, this may convince Sevilla to lower the price tag on Sergio Ramos. If Sevilla see that Ramos' signing is no longer a top priority for Madrid (since we now have a backup for Salgado), they might not push the bid too high, knowing that

    a) they might not get an offer like this year's - after all, a rookie's second season is more difficult than the first, and if Woodgate and Diogo work out, Madrid will not need Sergio Ramos for a while.

    b) Ramos is no longer a priority for Madrid, so that limits the amount of money that Madrid is willing to pay.

    what's it to you?!
i dont know, every year there are so many names going around and usually none of them are the ones to be bought. I just ignore them until an actual signing comes along. Although i am really hoping for a spanish player, i think most people can see that its about time for a Spanish signing.

link to a nifty little page where Real Madrid's website is keeping track of the players that are linked by press rumour to Real Madrid. neato. a lot of silly rumours. put your cursor over a position on the field to see who's rumoured and by whom.
