That is true , I know Ajax shows great interest in the U.S. youth , and are bound to do exactly the same as they do here in Holland . They recruit youngsters , make them train , sleep and go to school at their academies . Most won't make it , because the course is long and hard . You have to be both physically and mentally strong , you get yelled at etc , and you have to work your &^*& off in trainings & games . Most important of this all , is that ALL players in ALL teams will play the exact same system (4-3-3 ) , whether they're 10 years old or 20 . This pays off , everybody knows what is expected from them and other players as well . Basics of total football . If you know what the other players tasks are , you can swap positions during the game and be able to actually do what is required at that specific position . Most of the Dutch players are adept to 3 to 4 positions on the field , and can easily play there as if they've played there forever . This is one of the major reasons that the Netherlands , allthough having a population of just 17 million people , are still up there playing with the other powerhouses . Ajax Orlando is actually the first sign , I think this acadamy is to test things out before they'll start full throttle
The Argies had more possession, but if felt like the US was in control of the game. Don't get me wrong, the game was evenly played. The US was not fazed by all the pretty passing. This was not the typical counterattacking style we see from our Men's team. I never felt we played bunkerball until the last 10-15 minutes. Players were really reading the game well. They anticipated where Argentina would attack and would react accordingly. I loved watching how our team would stop the Argies attack in our half and then make the very simple pass to an open player. Our boys always looked composed on the ball. We are rapidly becoming a very good soccer playing nation.
Adu takes the PKs for this team. He always has when he has been there and he will continue to. I love how people who have never seen Wynne before in their life know for sure that he cannot cross. We have seen a smaple of what 6 or so and it is apparent that he is a failure. ANd now we are sure that Gaven will disappear in every big game he plays for the rest of his career. Might as well fly home Eddie and play for Metro tomorrow against DC. These are kids. It will be great if we advance/win this tournament but the real point is to develop players for the national team. From this group if 5 or so ever play a major role with the senior nats then job well done.
That would be the price of any such ticket alone. That would be some duel IMO. Your guy looked simply spectacular at times yesterday- a men vs. boys. Certainly the battle should be better than the vastly disappointing Robben vs. Heydude in 2003
Feilhaber and Wynne were the best players on the field for the US. Adu came across like the 15 year-old (or whatever he is) he really is with his crap attitude. One cross went over his head in the first half and he ripped into his teammate and another ball that was a bit long he simply stared the guy down. Really glad that fame hasn't gotten to his head. Gaven appeared to be either a) ill, b) injured or c) tired. Hard to believe this is the same guy who I watch regularly on the MetroStars. On one run late in the 2nd half, he had Adu on the right wing and just ignored him and tried to make a 50 yard run through 4 Argentinians. On another, Gaven was given a pass in injury time and it appeared that he was going to take it into the corner to kill time, but lost the ball on his own.....and it seemed like he took about 5-6 steps before realizing he no longer had the ball.
Yeah , poor Heyduk , did he ever recover ? Oh well , I think most defenders have a hard time against pacy , skilled wingers like Robben and Quincy , but the thing is to have some extra cover when they beat one . To be honest , I think Quincy has even greater potential than Robben . Quincy is better technically , allthough Robben's finishing is better . If the USA will face the Netherlands , I'd advice you not to lean back too much , that will kill you . As usual , our defense is our weak spot , take advantage out of it , and you'll win .
Some people should find some manners. My fear is the hype behind Adu gets him playing time and perhaps callups he does not deserve. That,m plus his ego and lack of team concern, could be a killer.
From Soccernet.com: "It's a great victory. I couldn't care if I had 10 goals or none, we still won," said Adu, already a star at 16 but still the youngest player of the under-20 tournament. "It was so sweet," he added. "I knew we could win if we kept it together, and we did." ...such lack of team concern by Adu... And on the whole "Adu's reactions" bit...I find it funny that some people are critisizing Adu's reactions to terrible passes more than the actual passes. If there was ever a sign that some people scrutize the kid a little too much, that's a prime example. Oh my, it's my 2nd positive post on Adu...surely I must be the leader of the hype machine now.
I meant accidental in the sense of whether or not Argentina pulled up knowing/hoping that would happen.
Get a grip man. He ripped a teammate??? I recall him turning to the player and yelling (because it was quite a distanst away) and motioning to get the ball to him on the ground...it was a justifiable grip. You are making way to much of it. Adu was our most dangerous player and composed player. Feihaber, Wynne, and Spector while he was in were also solid. He didn't have his best game, but I am sure he will be back. He is too good to let one bad game effect him.
Undeserved callups; big ego; like national teams have never encountered these before? What are these things going to kill? Cause us to miss qualifying? Lose in the second round at Germany 2006? It's not clear to me why you fear this. The timing for a first callup should be appropriate (not for critical matches), but otherwise, it's a risk-free option that will occur, even if only to show that he might not be ready for Germany.
I disagree, Adu was just trying to communicate. Hunter Freeman played three balls over Adu's head and four balls straight out of bounds (and I'm a Rapids fan!) Adu was just saying;" hey play it to me in-bounds and on the ground!" You can't blame Adu, check the replay!
Didn't think Gaven was that impressive. Picking up the yellow didn't help but when he got a good start going, it usually ended badly. Wynne was outstanding at RB. His speed, crossing ability & defense were all solid & I can't wait to see him with the senior team very soon!! Adu's missed PK, I thought, would come back to "kick us in the ass" but the team hung tough & pulled out a gutty win. Until the very last minute, my feeling was that Argentina would find a way to tie it & they had many chances. Thankfully, we held on for the win. Westberg scared me numerous times. Seemed very unsure & nervous. However, he did make a great save late in the game to preserve the win!! Terrific header by Barrett!! Nice start for Sigi's boys!! Bring on the Germans!!
LBOTF! Really liked how he played today. Thought the fullbacks were both very solid (as were all three CBs who played). Once Wynne can improve his service, he'll be a really incredible prospect. Feilhaber was rough early on but ended up doing very well against Messi. Adu seems a lot more confident at this level, Gaven had a rough day, Ochoa showed flashes, and Barrett was dangerous all day long until the injury. Great win.
It is astonishing how people go looking for reasons to hate a player, adu is fast becoming the next Donovan if you get my drift.
And some people should stop making ******** up just to get a reaction on a bulletin board. You ahve NEVEr played on a team with Adu and have probably never even met him. You have no effing clue if he has an ego or is a team player or not. So you should shut your effing pie hole unless you do know these things. Just my opinions.
