I personally think that the only thing that's controversial about Van Bommel is the fact that Cruyff AKA Van Basten doesn't like him.
He's hardly played for Holland since Van Basten took over!!!! And whenever he did start he was taken off in the second half. He really doesn't seem to have built up any credit.
Let's just wait and see how he'll do for barca. Take up the pace, develop himself more and perhaps he'll also learn to follow orders to forfull the role he has been sent to do. In a 4-4-3 you need to have a quality midfield. We have. But you have to have players who fill the gap efficiently by marking his man or sucking dust (stofzuigeren) and he didn't do that. But still I feel we can't leave him at home.
Yes, a 4-4-3 would be great. Van Bommel needs to do what the coach tells him to do, just like anyother player should. When you don't you lose your starting spot. Van Basten played him a bit at the start but he didn't do what he as asked to do. He has gotten another chance but hasn't taken it. Now he will need to prove him wrong at Barcelona and get another chance.
