It is good that you will learn Romanian. It will give you a great sence of pride for Ronamia. And either way, it is the closests, non dead language, to latin. You will easily understand Spanish, French, Italian, etc...

    Re: Romanian National Team

Ilie played one hell of a game just didnt get the chance cause our midfield sucks and Chivu played his heart out even out of fitness. Its sad to say but I think its the end for my boys. I dont want to say it but I dont see us contending with the Czechs. Contra had to go and **** everything up with is stubborn attitude. Contra was called up and was not in the starting 11 and he had a fit so Piturca sent him off to go watch the game on the far side of the bench. I seriously think the game would have been somewhat different or (at least the midfield) if Contra was in. Ghioane played like crap and that pissed me off, just like our wingers. If we lose one more game we are done I mean done not even 2nd place. We are going to need some luck on the way and some help from other teams (Macedonia, Finland mostly) but also the Dutch because it seems like they have the group tied up, if we are going to have a shot at 2nd. Romania did not play well at all they just looked "flat" to sum it all up. In their training they looked so confident, and I think the Contra incident took the game off everyones mind. So thanks a lot Contra.

Contra would have done well, had he played, but it is hard to expect goals out of retired attackers. I think that WC 06 is out of reach but lets hope we have some good youths for 2010. The funny thing is that I called some friends back home in Bucharest, They had a power outage just before the first goal, so they didn’t have to see the corner. sadly they still saw the result.

I agree chances at WC qualification are looking grim, but stranger things have happend. Here are my thoughts on the game:
    • Flat
      No heart
      No pride
      No passion
All except for Chivu who did the best he could
Piturca did not impress me at all either with his facial expressions.
The players after the game did not even seem upset that their hopes of Germany 2006 were probably gone.

My thoughts on qualification are still hopeful, but we need serious help from the Dutch, Fins, and Macedonians. I think we could beat the Czechs at home especially with that match being in September if i am not mistaken. By September, Mutu should be fit, and have his head out of his ass, Chivu full strength, Ganea should be back hopefully too. I see the battle for second place heating up for sure.

Ganea has started full training - should be playing his first reserve match in about a week's time. Don't think he'll be playing any internationals for a while though.

Thanks for the update. We could use Ganea back for a little motivation.

    Re: Romanian National Team

Good result for us against Macedonia at least we got the 3 points which is the most important thing in the end. Looking at the campaign so far here's what I see:

    Romania vs. Finland 2-1
    Romania vs. Macedonia 2-1
    Andorra vs. Romania 1-5
    Czech Republic vs. Romania 1-0
    Armenia vs. Romania 1-1
    Romania vs. Holland 0-2
    Macedonia vs. Romania 1-2
    Holland vs. Romania
    Romania vs. Armenia
    Romania vs. Andorra
    Romania vs. Czech Republic
    Finland vs. Romania

    Code:
    Standings:
    Team MP Pts
    1) Netherlands---------6---16
    2) Czech Republic------6---15
    3) Romania-------------7---13
    4) Finland--------------6----9
    5) Macedonia FYR------7----5
    6) Armenia-------------7----4
    7) Andorra-------------7----4
We started off the campaign with three wins even though we didn't play our best soccer we still managed to steal the three points everytime and then we went to Prague and had a very poor showing against a top 5 team in the world, not acceptable. From that game on we have started to play worse and worse. If we would of gotten the 3 points against Armenia we would not be in such bad shape right now, the players played that game like they already had the victory before the game started you could see it in their faces and after they finished the game and tied with Armenia (which I still can't believe) you would think that they would use it as a motivation but no they come home and play Holland and again come out with another poor showing. I'm hoping and praying that the win against Macedonia will be the start of another winning streak for us, stealing three points out of Rotterdam would be amazing although I wouldn't be mad with 1 either as long as we would come back and Armenia and Andorra in back to back games on our home field which as we have sourly come to find out is not a give anymore :( but we have the opportunity here to start a span in which we could possibly get 7 to 9 points in three games before we play the Czechs. However a loss to Holland on June 4th and we might as well leave our travel bags empty because we're not going to Germany in '06.

Not bad analysis my friend, but I am afraid we will need some major help or we aren't going anywhere.

    Re: Romanian National Team

Mircea Sandu will not run for re-election in December. Now my Dad spoke with him last week and he said he is tired of all the accusations and corruption that is going on in the Federation. I think it is a shame he ran the Federatia for 15 years and now he is going to step down. Who do you guys think would be good for the job?

Personally I like a man my Dad met in Romania, but I am not quite sure of his real name nor the spelling of his nickname. Maybe somebody could tell me his real full name. I know his name is Nicolae and he is now the head of the players union. He was the coach of the U-21s until a hew weeks ago. Again, he said that he didn't like the way the Federatia was doing things and the way it was going so he thought best that they get out. He is called "Naia" or "Nia" I am not sure. My Dad hung out with him while he was in Romania and he said that when your with him you get treated like royalty. They walked through the airport with all the metal detectors and stuff going off and they just let them keep going. But yea just I would like to hear some suggestions of guys you think that would fit the job well.

Hey guys, something positive may come out of that last game against Holland when we got schooled by the Dutch 2-0. Maybe they'll underestimate us in Holland and we can beat them.

My prediction is more like dreaming, but I say Holland 1:2 Romania and we're back in it for WC '06.

I was thinking the same thing all week, i truly beileve we have the potential to beat these guys, we just have to have the confidence. I expect Romania to come home with a victory and i hope that Czech Republic will lose then will be right back on the wagon.

    Re: Romanian National Team

If Romania is going to win, which is very possible, Romania will have to score at least 3 goals. Heres the lineup... I'm mad that Florin Cernat was not added in the final roster cuts.

    Goalkeepers: Bogdan Lobonţ (Ajax Amsterdam), Martin Tudor (Steaua Bucureşti);
    Defenders: Flavius Stoican, Răzvan Raţ (both Shakhtar Donetsk), Cosmin Contra, Gigel Coman (both Poli Timişoara), Mirel Rădoi, Sorin Ghionea (both Steaua Bucureşti), Gabriel Tamaş (Dinamo Bucureşti), Cristian Chivu (AS Roma), Pompiliu Stoica (FC Moscova);
Midfielders: Daniel Pancu (Beşiktaş Istanbul), Florentin Dumitru, Dorinel Munteanu (both Steaua Bucureşti), Florentin Petre, Ştefan Grigorie, Mihăiţă Pleşan (all Dinamo Bucureşti), Ovidiu Petre (Poli Timişoara)
Strikers: Adrian Mutu (Juventus Torino), Nicolae Mitea (Ajax Amsterdam), Marius Niculae (Sporting Lisbon), Claudiu Niculescu (Dinamo Bucureşti).

    Lobont
    Stoican Radoi Chivu Ghionea

    Contra Pancu Plesan Mitea

    M. Niculae Mutu

I dont know who would be the 2nd forward starting with Mutu. I like Niculae starting, but I also like him coming off the bench. He has a lot of size which I like. So we'll see on Saturday how it goes, this lineup looks a lot stronger compared to the last time we played the Dutch. HAI ROMANIA!!!

    Re: Romanian National Team

Well I hope Oranje are a lot less complacent than that. Still I expect Holland to win though our depleted back line is a bit worrying.

No worries for the back line anymore :)
23 out of 24 dutch players trained at full level today.
Only Roy Makaay (Bayern Munchen) trained seperately.
But he will also be fit for the match on saturday.
Too bad Philip Cocu isn't able to play....

Goal: Edwin van der Sar (Fulham), Henk Timmer (AZ).

Defense: Khalid Boulahrouz (HSV), Wilfred Bouma (PSV), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Johnny Heitinga (Ajax), Theo Lucius (PSV), Mario Melchiot (Birmingham City), Barry Opdam (AZ), André Ooijer (PSV), Ron Vlaar (AZ).

Midfield: Mark van Bommel (PSV), Olaf Lindenbergh (AZ), Nigel de Jong (Ajax), Denny Landzaat (AZ), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (Ajax).

Attack: Ryan Babel (Ajax), Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord), Roy Makaay (Bayern München), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV).

Well, I meant that Mathijsen (likely starter) and Kromkamp (sure starter) won't be there. But that is good news otherwise.

This will be a very important game. I don’t think Romania will have any chance of qualifying if they loose and I think Holland will easily make it to Germany if they win this game. Although I hate to say it, I think Holland will take all three points. My only hope is that they underestimate the Romanians and that Mutu reenergize the team.

    Re: Romanian National Team

Are you that arrogant? Come on show some respect for your opponent. I know the dutch are a quality team and the Romanians are not what they used to be, but look at statistics you guys tied Macedonia 2-2 so dont tell me we aren't capable of getting at least a point. HAI ROMANIA!!! Bad news for our defence though, Radoi is hurt and will not be playing in both games, such a huge blow to our defence...

    Re: Romanian National Team

Don't worry about her, she is an ignorant twat.

Bad news with Radoi but I believe that the return of Mutu, and Chivu being in much better shape than he was when we played the Dutch the first time will be huge boosts and carry us to a win. I see 3 goals being possible with the attacking style of Mutu and his ability to play through balls in key spots to his colleagues up front.

I think the main goal of our defense is to make the Dutch earn everything they get. Last game we gave them that cheap early goal and basically out played them the rest of the game. I think we should play more of a contain type defense and possibly try to set up the offside trap early. Force the dutch to attempt to play high passes and through balls in, but we must make sure that we are not lazy. Lobont will also have to come up huge, because I am not going to lie the Dutch are good and even if we play perfectly in defense they will get between 2-4 legitimate chances on the net.

    Re: Romanian National Team

This is what it looks like for tommorow...

Holland- Van Der Sar, Lucius, Boulahrouz, Opdam, Van Bronchorst, Van Der Vaart, Landzaat, Van Bommel, Kujit, Van Nistelrooy, Robben

ROMANIA- Lobont, Contra, Tamas, Chivu (C), P. Stoica, Fl. Petre, Pancu, D. Munteanu, Mitea, Mutu, Cl. Niculescu

The things to note. Tamas filling in for injured Radoi and Stoica getting his first appearence in I believe 2 years for the National Team. Mutu's debut for the national team since October. Well lets see if the Romanians can do it this time, personally this lineup looks sooo much better then last times game against the Dutch. HAI ROMANIA!!!

    Re: Romanian National Team

I was surprised they didnt either expect for Mutu who was fouled. He should have shot it anyways... But the Dutch deserved this game. We played well the first 20 minutes then you guys just took over the game. The game would have been different with the penalty called cause with that no goal would have happened. But I dont want to take anything away from the superb Dutch. We dont have the players to compete against the top quality teams such as the Dutch... Contra gave up both goals (nods head) Well done Dutch looks like you've got your ticket to Germany.
