Hi, all, we'll be in Istanbul for a week around the European Cup Final.
I note (from the fixture list on the bbc web-site) that there are couple of games on in Istanbul that week end - Besiktas-Kayserispor and Fener-Gala. Natural question would be - any advice on how to get tickets for the biggest match in Turkish calendar? Any help will be muchly appreciated.

A couple of other unfortunate souls will be there too. :) Pity the fools. :)

Aha, thank you for the clarification there. Any idea how much the tickets might be for the Istanbul derby?

The Fener-Gala derby will be in Fener's stadium, Sukru Saracoglu Stadium (pronounced as Schuekrue Suh-rach-oo-louu ), in Kadikoy, which is on the asian side of Istanbul. You can find the tickets on biletix.com. The cheapest ticket must be around 55 YTL which is around $40. Check biletix.com 4-5 days before the derby and look for biletix.com sales locations if you will then be in Istanbul.
Just out of curiosity, whixh one will you support? :)

    Thank you for the info.
I will keep my Turkish allegiances quiet - it's Ankaragucu. The derby will be a purely cultural visit for me. :)
Aha, so, Fener is in Asia - will be a good excuse to sample the ferry service and visit Asia as bizarrely, I've never actually been to Asia. :)

It appears that tickets will be on sale tomorrow. Migros and Telsim are the names of the two end stands - which is the home end and which is for away supporters?

Migros is a supermarket and Telsim is a phone company. I am guessing that they are the sponsors. I am not sure of which side is for which team's supporters.

Oh, it was cracking. We wanted to see Besiktas-Kayserispor as well but unfortunately arrived just a bit too late on the 21st. Actually saw the Besiktas ground when took the boat up the Bosphorus - near the water in a park next to the "New" Royal Palace with the Maritime Museum and its salvaged German U-Boat just along the Bosphorus from it.

Have to say - the Fener match was a good excuse for a visit to Asia - the biggest fixture in Turkey to decide the league - we picked a good 'un - amazing passion and energy under the gaze of Ataturk. :)

You from Istanbul or do you got family there? Great place, great people, great history and Ibrahim the Mad - what a great historical character. Also had my little moment with Suleyman the Magnificent at his tomb at Suleymaniye Camii rudely interrupted by a phone call - still quite awe-inspire, considering what a grand nom he was. Ayia Sofia and the Blue Mosque - rather elegant establishments. :) Also thought the Genoese fortress on the Asian side at the Clashing Rocks (where Jason and the Arganauts passed back in the day) would be a perfect setting for Macbeth. :)))

And, of course, our lucky trainstation - The Hayderpasa - had a great comeback of its own after 1917. :)

Got loads - just need to get them developed. :) Got a great one of a lane outside the Fener ground with fans queueing up and rattling the entrance gates with an endless line of riot police passing them 5 1/2 hours (!!!) before the match.
