Apparently I could get in big trouble for sharing this info with you, but what are they gonna do? Take my name off the mailing list? Besides, it's way too juicy to keep a secret. Our worst possible nightmare could come true... D.C. United has renewed its efforts to pry Dante Washington away from Columbus while trying to find a taker for Jaime Moreno and his big salary, with the Metros on the list of possibles.
[Disease-of-the-week movie melodramatic voice] My, my god...my god, no...[/Disease-of-the-week movie melodramatic voice]
Metros already have a forward with an attitude problem, so I don't see how this helps them. Let them choke on Moreno's salary.
Andy, is this the Soccer America e-mail update? Or something else? If there's something to it besides anonymously-confirmed or unconfirmed speculation, I'd like to know what the Metros are giving up for it. Draft picks? Allocation? Players (would Hudson take Andy Williams)?
True, but Bradley has a knack for getting a lot out of forwards with bad attitudes. Look under Razov, Ante and Wynalda, Eric.
After how he did for us last year does he really deserve better? Haig I think someone in another thread mentioned that this news was in fact from the MLS Confidential newsletter.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Anybody here old enough to remember when the Baltimore Bullets traded Earl "The Pearl" Monroe to the New York Knicks? This would be almost as bad. ps...I was a kid at the time and I was CRUSHED. Never to care about the NBA ever again
I plead the fifth !!! And to answer your question, yes.... I don't think there is much to it, other than SA mentioning the Metro's interest in possibly acquiring Moreno. I mean, honestly, looking at past performances, who wouldn't be interested in the guy (or at least his potential), other than teams that already have three forwards they can rotate at will.
Fair enough, and opinion among Metro fans on whether Moreno is worth picking up is totally divided. I think a change of scenery and coaches might do him some good, especially if he focuses and works on his fitness. Certainly he wouldn't be any worse than most past Metro draft picks or allocations in any case.
Maybe I'm completely out of it, because I hadn't heard this one before, have any of you? www.onthesidelines.blogspot.com Bushman's latest column...
Teams for which the salary cap isn't quite such an obstacle, i.e. New York and Los Angeles. Plus, Bradley coached Moreno during the glory years of '96 and '97, so I suspect he knows exactly how to get the most out of him. While I'd hate to see Moreno as a Metro (AKA United-killer!), I definitely do see the possibility. If nothing else, Bradley could use Moreno as his attacking midfielder. After all, when you have a deadly finisher like Mathis, how brilliant does the pass really have to be? With Brad Davis on the left and probably two holding midfielders behind him, Moreno could do a fine job as an attacking midfielder. And if he does regain his form, he'll score in double digits. Fortunately, this makes too much sense. One thing I've learned about MLS, is that the sensical moves are not very good bets to happen. United needs a target forward who finishes, Joares is dropped into our laps, finishes at least once in every single practice and scrimage, and we don't sign him. Instead we go after a well connected young buck in England with a pedigree. See, just too much sense to ever happen. -Tron
Oh GOD you had to bring that up! I remember that painful moment all too well. Of course Monroe wanted out of the "two horse town" as he described Baltimore, unlike Moreno with DCU.
? And what has the scum done for you lately? Well actually the last 7 years? What is even more pathetic is that you have a tendency to root for losers! Whatever turns you on.
There are some weak rumors floating around about DC trading Moreno and the #1 pick to the stars for Clint mathis. If you think about , Brad and Mathis do not get along . They will add a veteran player in Moreno and plus , they will have a better chance to draft their player Alecko.
"There are some weak rumors floating around about DC trading Moreno and the #1 pick to the stars for Clint mathis." Yeah, dude, I mentioned that earlier in this thread (www.onthesidelines.blogspot.com)...I hadn't heard that from anybody else, so I'm wondering how reliable the info is...
