Well, because there are only so many players that BA is going to bring to Mexico. I wouldn't say that Bruce hates him or has ignored him. He has 46 caps, afterall. But this isn't the first time BA's passed over him in faovr of others when he's been healthy.
I'll have to respectfully disagree. While I don't know any details as to the circumstances of his release, I would much rather have him with the Nats then not. Clint is competitive and, I would think, wants to be with the Nats as much as possible. The more he is there the happier and more confident I would think he would be. I want a happy, confident Clint even at the sacrifice of some training with RSL. Slightly OT but, is anyone else getting giddy about the opener?
A side question ... Clint Mathis is one of those guys who makes the rest of the country laugh and say, "What the hell is a guy like that doing in Utah?" Jim McMahon would be another one. Who else would fit into the camp of Utah pro sports bad boys?
That's a tough one especially if you qualify it as "pro sports". If so, Jim McMahon wouldn't qualify. To date, SLC has pretty much been a one pony show in pro sports in the Jazz. While I wouldn't classify him as a "bad boy", Karl Malone was always a little different. Sure, he's a country boy. But he's probably more a country boy than the country boys here. He and Larry Miller are probably Utah's version of The Odd Couple.
However, don't confuse Utah with BYU... there is a BIG difference. True, Utah as a whole may be a lot more conservative than most other places, BUT BYU is yet even MORE conservative than the rest of Utah. This analogy is not entirely accurate, but: while there may be a lot of Catholics in Italy that doesn't mean the whole country is like the Vatican. BYU = not quite the Vatican for mormons, but close. There is plenty of partying/hell to raise in Utah if that is your thing - Park City, the U of U, bars/nightclubs/etc...
I think Mathis is really going to thrive at RSL. He's finally with a coach he likes and that likes him. I've always thought he needed to just be "left alone." Every now and then you just have somebody a little screwy and Clint's that guy. He's a true individual and he thrives that way. Trying to make him into something he's not will just reduce his productivity I think and frustrate him and the coach. I'm not saying it'd be easy to deal with, but it seems like that's the way it is. Eventhough I'm not an RSL fan, I look forward to watching him play this year.
Looks like Clint's playing in the last warm up against KC http://www.sltrib.com/realsaltlake/ci_2621485
New ESPN article on Cleatus. Some pretty funny quotes, actually. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=330437&cc=5901
Typical Clint. Seems lost throughout the game. Gets a yellow card, this time early. Makes the one important touch to set up the important goal. This one was a spinner into the box that bounced left onto a rushing defender who headed it in. Same old Clint.
Typical, Metroscum are jealous that RSL has Clint and they don't. What juice was Galvanrey on this weekend? And yes Clint is #10 for RSL.
I was happy to see Clint involved on the goal. The lost throughtout the game comment is what I'd expect from someone who didn't watch the game though. Cleatus worked his butt off during that game playing more CM than in the hole. He wasn't lost. Just playing a more complete game than folks are willing to open their eyes and see.
Thank you for posting this. I read post of him "being lost" and wondered if I was watching the same game. I'm not an expert by any means when it comes to soccer, but he seemed to be involved and working hard during the game.
I am a fan of Clint and think he can do good things for us. I would think he could help us better as an attacking mid than as a forward but I guess Ellinger knows more than I. I do get frustrated with Clint though because it seems like he can get sporadic at times. He just seems a bit lazy now and then. Having said that, I would still rather have him on our team than playing against us because he can also be brilliant!
This is not a Clint fan club, it's a support group. come on guys Clint hasn't done a damn thing for you all year! Listen I'm a galaxy fan but before you get all crazy on me let me say that half of my heart runs with Salt lake because you have my favorite player in the world. Kevin Novak who is undeservingly on the reserves is my best friend and can outplay your entire starting roster. So hang on because If I can't figure out a way to get him traded, you guys are going to have one hell of a star on your team. I swear the kid is good, he's all class, all heart and all skills...the polar opposite of your so called beloved Mathis and his balding mohawk.
Completely disagree. Clint has been a catalyst in all 4 of Salt Lake's goals this season. The first was off a rebound from a block shot by Dipsy which was setup by Clint. The second was off a Dunseth header served up by Mathis. The third was off a Kreis PK caused when Dunny was fouled in the box with a pass by Mathis. The fourth was a Kreis goal with a Mathis assist caused by a streaking Mathis down the middle of the field. RSL looks absolutely flat and lost when Mathis isn't playing. As far as Novak, hopefully you're correct although your bias may be blinding you a bit.
Fair enough...I'm not going continue the argument with snide remarks like RSL plays flatter and more lost when mathis is not in the game because I semi share your love for RSL. In fact, I screamed my lungs out for RSL during the chivas match which they so should have won. I sat right behind the RSL bench and let clint know what I thought about him.
And you wouldn't find many that would disagree with you should you decide to make that argument. But the point is that Mathis doesn't make the team worse, he makes the team better. Unfortunately that "better" isn't too good right now.
