    Hey -

I posted this initially, but should have posted in here first--sorry if this is a repost for some of you.

Where are the best bars in the Bay Area to catch international soccer matches?? I've found one place in San Francisco, but looking for more.

    Thanks Again!

I have moved away from the Haight for 10 years. I still think the Kezar Pub on Stanyan near Federick is good. Try some of the Irish Pubs near Geary or Clement and 5th in Richmond.

Mad Dog In The Fog in Lower Haight district is a decent place, too.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Old Pro in Palo Alto near the corner of El Camino and Page Mill. I have never been inside but the place looks cool like an old Quonson (sp??) hut from WWII.

I like the Britannia Arms in Cupertino because it is right across the street from my home. They charge like $20 for the big games, and in hindsight it seems a poor choice for me to have went there with a Croatia jersey during the England-Croatia Euro2004 game given the name of the place.

Quonset Hut. It's a music store in the Akron area. :)

I've been to the Old Pro once for a game and it was nice, but I was turned off when I called later to see if they were showing a game and was told, "We don't show soccer anymore."

That was a few years ago, and they might have changed since then, but I haven't been back.

Here's an old list of places to go in the Bay Area. Most of them are still valid.

I watched the England-Portugal Eurocup game at the Rose and Crown in Palo Alto. Tiny pub with a giant projection screen on one wall. Less than standing room only. Quite an experience. England-France at the Duke of Edinburgh in Cupertino was also great. WC2006 England-Brazil at the Brittania arms was alot like the Rose and Crown. Basically any British pub for England national team games is a great experience. For less attended games, I would say the Duke is my favorite as they pretty much always have the game on, have lots of screens, more seating, and good food.

I had a "What the frak am I doing here" feeling shortly after celebrating the early Kovac goal, but eventually Croatia got their asses kicked 4-2 so everyone was happy and I was mopey. I'm not sure it would be pretty if Croatia won.

(Has a lovely flashback to watching the US/Portugal World Cup game in 2002 at the Cupe Brit)
I think there were at least two Portugal fans there. I think they watched outside. :)

Yes indeed, the Rose and Crown in downtown Palo Alto is almost exclusivly a soccer haven. Manager is from the UK and is a big Liverpool supporter.

Was in there the other evening and no baseball (roidball) was on any of their 4 TV screens. GoalTV, FSN on all of them. The big screen is pulled out for special events such as CL matches. They have Setanta Pub channel as well. Had English breakfast
for the Barce vs RM matchup last week. Fish and Chips are the best I've had bar none.

All that and its within walking distance of the crib!

If your looking to follow a specific team, lots of ethnic cafes and restaurants in SF show soccer matches.

Kezar Pub is the only real answer to this question if you like international sport.

By far the best sports pub for international sport..probably on the West Coast, to be honest.

Okay, I wont tell you what happens, but I will tell you to get there 57 minutes early if you want a good seat and stay away from the guy in the orange-pull over at half time. Don't say I didnt warn you. ;)

Any of the Brits are good, but I prefer the one in Cupertino. It's kind of neat to see the pictures of Georgie Best hanging out there with Tommy, the owner.

The Fiddler's Green in Millbrae is also very good. It's much more Irish than British, though. I heard they once made some IRA related arrests there. They almost always have Irish waitresses and patrons, so it has that time warp to Ireland feel.
