Player of the Year nominee's announced....

Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Cech, Steven Gerrard, Andy Johnson and Thierry Henry.

With all the will in the world I don't see anyone other than Lampard winning this year........

Well a) he IS playing for Crystal Palace which without being rude is a bit of a handicap, and b) how many of those pens did he create ?

But anyway he has no chance of winning

    Terry or Cech for me...

I agree with Rick that I think Lampard's got to be the guy. He's been the best player on the best team this year.

I also second (or third?) the fact that Cesc wasn't nominated for the young player award. I know he wasn't always consistent, but he was certainly dynamic when he was on.

This contest is a mockery of English football! Where is Lee Carsley?!

Oh yeah, Lampard will probably take b/c Roman bought the judges as well. ;)

I think Terry should get it. Chelsea without Lampard is still a lot better off than Chelsea without Terry. I think a lot of people are forgetting Lampard's so-so start to the season. Terry has him on consistentcy alone.

We've already had the AJ discussion but to sum it up again only half of his goals are PKs and many of those were created when a defender pulls him down in the area after getting beaten so he certainly deserves some credit for that. However, he isn't in the same class as Henry or some of the other players in this list.

I agree. John Terry deserves it more than Lampard. He has saved Chelski on many occasions and scored vital goals for them throughout the season. He has been outstanding. But, let's not forget Cech as well, he is probably single-handedly responsible for the point gap at the top of the table this year.

Oh i don't know about that. Cech is an excellent goalkeeper but it's their defensive setup that is largely responsible for that situation. Cech isn't tested as frequently as other keepers. He has been shaky in the last few games that i've seen. Making some errors and ultimately letting in goals he could have prevented.

agreed about Cech. He has been solid as a rock, but the last month or so, he lost his focus a bit. I belive Lampard will win just b/c he scores more, but I would vote for Terry. He is the rock of the team.

Cech makes a Hollywood spectacle of every save he attempts...

    Lampard is still fat...

Terry probably should be the Player of the Season, if not for one man's presence on the list...

... and that man, the Player of the Season, is Thierry Henry, thank you very much!

That noise (Pfffft) that you just heard was your credibility going out the window.

Terry is the Player of the Year

i'd go with Lampard with Terry as a close second, but then again I haven't seen any Chelsea games, I'm just going on what the commentators for the Bayern game were saying

Lampard has been great...but Terry is the team. He's played incredibly, done it all, he's the captain and the most valuable player on the team, IMO of course. Not to take away from Makelele.

Its Lampard for me, although as I've said elsewhere, I wouldn't be surprised if Henry took it, since Frank and John might split the vote. I also don't think Cech or Johnson deserve their nominations (Cech is certainly not the reason for the gap!). One player who should be nominated, but of course won't be, is Tomas Gravesen. He left Everton, and thus can't be up for the award. I think Lampard deserves it because he's been our irreplaceable player. The few games he hasn't played (or didn't start) we had absolutely no offensive flow. Terry is replaceable, as a starting pair of Carvalho and Gallas is more than adequate. Lampard is irreplaceable for Chelsea. Frankly, after his performances in the CL, I wouldn't be shocked if he got quite a few votes for European player of the year.

I think anyone of those Chelsea players would be fine choices I suppose. Lampard has proven himself to be a top player and Terry has anchored a sensational backline. I'd love to see Thierry win it again as he's been sensational as usual, but it's hard to ignore what either of the Chelsea players have done, especially since they're so close to getting Chelsea their first title in 50 years.

Henry?! No way, he's only scored 30 goals and 14 assists so far this season, i'm surprised he even got nominated.

Well, this is sort of like the "MVP" award in baseball. Henry is one of the best players in the Premiership, but its hard not to give the award to a team that has clearly been the best all season. And I'm not saying that to brag about Chelsea - its pretty hard to argue we haven't had the best season out of any EPL team, domestically and in Europe.
Although, on another thread, Teso, in his objectivity, is still trying to argue Paul Scholes is better than Lampard.

with Chelsea ahead of Arsenal Teso seems to be spending more time on the Chelsea boards than the Arsenal boards

Scholes better than Lampard? Absolutely, and i tell you why... wait, i forgot its not 2000 anymore, its 2005 you say? No, then its Lampard. BTW who actually votes for this award, the players, or the writers, or who? Anyone?
