In a few days, I think MLS is going to introduce Peter Wilt as the new MetroStars GM after firing Nick S.

Acute realization. There are a number of things that AEG does/has done that concern me. Ousting Peter Wilt has to be at or near the top of the list. Hiring Alexi is also near the top of the list. Pimping the Mexican team in the US - on the list.

Christ, the Fire are hated rivals, but this just makes me sick to my stomach. It's beyond stupid; it's borderline suicidal.

Come on. All of those pale in comparison to Dragon Stadium.

I mean, if Dragon Stadium is/was the biggest WTF Was I Thinking? Moment in MLS history, this one is close. At least.

I can't imagine him moving to New York to deal with that mess. He's a Chicago guy (well, a Chicago/Milwaukee guy), right? If Milwaukee was getting an MLS team, yeah. But I think he'll get out of soccer for a while.

Never met you, Mr. Wilt, but I wish you Godspeed.

    Clearly I meant Bridgeview.

My mind has been a bit overrun by today's events.

A GM who took the time to answer questions on a message board. Help with organizing tickets...

    A great GM

I think it's more likely to be something more unintentionally humorous, like:

    "Fire Playoff Fever: Get Lit!"
    or
"October Nights, Playoff Heat... Fire It Up!"

He'll just borrow some more crap from MLB since he's an unoriginal piece of deuce.

I was sitting at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs lose another close one when my cell phone rang. It was “Stogey23” calling me from San Diego with the most unbelievable news. I am shocked, stunned and saddened by today’s events. I've mentioned here before that I was once involved in professional sports. I've seen several GM's function on a first hand basis and by far, Peter Wilt is the cream of the crop. IMO, his only competition to date is John Paxson – who has led the Bulls back to respectability.

Clearly, Peter Wilt is the example that all MLS team upper management should strive for. That is why it is so illogical to me that AEG would want to throttle its most effective and respected manager. It doesn’t make sense to take an individual from a less successful franchise and put him in command of the best you have. And also, from a totally different perspective, how could an Englishman possess the zeal and drive to promote American soccer as Peter has?

For a reason, I share the thoughts of “NOAH DAHL”:
“Peter stands out from this crowd of self-important, two-faced, corporate asshats who'd never stoop to listen to fans.

He's head and shoulders above the rest; he's truly separated from the pack by his excellence. It's all true, but he was obviously, always, the odd man out.

Garber doesn't like him. I doubt the AEG folks do. He stood up for his team and his turf, sometimes in opposition to league HQ. The knives have been out for a while, but Peter's successes always saved him”.

Perhaps those in power at AEG and USSF felt threatened by “The People’s GM”. Oddly, Guppy and the next Pope have something in common; they both have outrageously AWESOME shoes to fill. Thank you for everything Peter, you made us smile and be happy for awhile. Good luck, and May God abundantly bless you and yours.

Peter Wilt: the next member of the "Ring of Fire"

Anyone who questions this has not read any of the previous 500+ posts in this sub-forum and all others like it.

And I fail to see how Guppy can do more than Peter Wilt ever could to "improve sales".

    and this:

"John Guppy is a proven and capable marketing executive who we believe will capitalize on the commercial opportunities that exist for AEG in the Chicago marketplace,"

emphasis mine. this stinks of concerts at the new stadium are priority 1.

Oh yeah, and if you're reading Guppy, 'Fire Fever' isn't just for the playoffs.

I'm with you on Peter for the Ring of FIRE. Guppy was a total failure at the Metros. If you need proof, check the attendance figures, revenue, promotion success, and how well he is regarded ( ) around the league.

I will look up the revenue, promo, etc., but I had a pretty good idea about attendance figures. All I had to do was watch a Metro game on TV to figure out that there was no one in the stands, although I now know why.

So basically its what we all suspected. Hope you fire fans protest en masse - buy tickets, but decorate your sections with protest banners and stand in the concourse for like 15 minutes or something. that and wearing the black would make for good audio and visual impressions.

I dont want to intrude on your boards anymore so Ill leave it at that but I think short of with-holding your money from the team that would be the best way to protest.

Wearing black and decking out Section 8 in black rather than red is the best idea I've heard so far.

Guppy will claim he isn't a failure because the Metros have been manipulating attendence figures for years to seem like they are always getting more people.
    They aren't.
    It's all lies.
Wilt was doing good for Chicago, but I think this is only about concerts. Wilt was too much sports, and concerts are more lucrative.
Or AEG is only thinking really short term, and the Metros know how to squeeze their fans real hard short term.
    Then they never come back.
    If things don't change, I won't either.

FWIW, thats what I was talking about. The St. Et. fans stayed out for like 15 minutes, with that big banner as protest.

Wow. I actually think that's a brilliant idea, particularly the latter part about entering 15 minutes later. But I'd add just one twist.

I think EVERY supporters club across MLS (indeed every MLS fan who thinks this was the wrong decision) should enter the stadium en masse 15 minutes late at their next home game. I wouldn't suggest pro-Peter Wilt banners anywhere but in Chicago, but in an act of solidarity and protest I would suggest the die-hards and the supporters clubs remain in the concourse for 15 minutes after kickoff. The message would be made quite clearly.

Actually, I think this could be organized fairly easily on the boards.
