Maybe because Tony Hibbert has won more tackles than any other player in the premier league this season, beating Viera by about 5 last time I saw the stats, and covered back to save an almost certain goal from Baros when Stubbs fell over the ball.
Oh, and also maybe because the team he plays for every week is four points clear in fourth place with a good defensive record.

or maybe its just because Watson's crap, who knows.

I thought Tony Hibbert was outstanding. As Osman21 pointed out, his tackling has saved us a bunch of times this season including yesterday. There is absolutely no way Watson should be starting over Hibbert.

Yeah but what's the use in winning challenges and hoofing it back to the oppo, the reason he's won more than any is because he may have felt it his duty after he just lost the damn ball.

Eh? Who dived? A one-dimensional bunch of long-ball merchants and cynical hackers was thoroughly outclassed by a team that played football.

One game in a poorly performing team, judge him on the season not the derby. Who exactly was he meant to pass to? We had nowt in Midfield and went bent left were poor up front. He has been one of our best players this season, comfortably. Alongside Bent, Cahill, Osman, Stubbs and Martyn.

Did you watch the same game I did? If a blue shirt got within 10 feet of a red one, the red guy was down on the ground holding his knee or something. I've never seen a bigger bunch of nancies. I'm not saying it wasn't a rough game, but c'mon.

I think you're overdoing it there a bit, Sara. Everton were very, very rough that day (more than just than the normal "this is the Premiership" type of rough). There were a few times when I was thinking "okay, let's just get on with it", but not once can I recall a red shirt hitting the floor without contact.

And I might add that anyone who admits to wanting a bit "goon element" to take place after the opposition is out of subs has very little room to say anything at all.

In fairness, Hibbert probably should have sent off. The challenge on Garcia that won the free kick for Liverpool's first goal should have been a yellow, and he rightly picked up another one.
However, I've been impressed with Hibbert this season, even if he is one dumb looking fvcker.

Perhaps you didn't notice, Sarabella with her blue tinted glasses certainly didn't. But Liverpool had 3 men subbed out injured and 2 guys, JAR and Garcia, limping on the pitch (Yeh, all 5 of them took dives Sara. )and that idiot Baros red carded (Rightfully so)
The last 25 minutes was the only time you had a chance.

Hate to point out that it was a Liverpool derby, 2 teams from liverpool and the majority of fans from Liverpool as are Carragher and Gerrard. He was speaking English with a Liverpool accent. (Scouse) I and all those others had no trouble understanding him. Yeh, he was sweating a bit, he'd just spent 90 minutes giving your (adopted) lot a lesson in defence.
Pretty ignorant post really, did you expect his English to be as good as yo good ole' boy Bushs'????

    Just wasn't your day.

Isn't that pretty much what i said? You expect the derby games to be rougher than any normal game, especially the English derbies, Emotions are high and no-one wants to fúck anything up, so it's 100% in every challenge.

    People,
I as an Everton fan thought we were outplayed most of the game. Why is it that we never seem to get the ball with acres of space to run onto with the ball. It always seems to be the other team ( though this year that hasn't been the case too much), the rs seemed to always have a man in space and with space to run with the ball. I think they wanted it more then us ( or at lease Gerrard did, he was everywhere). Yes we were a little rough, I was surprised that we had no one sent off, but there was diving by the rs that is what they teach south american players, IT IS THEIR CULTURE! Too many years of watching their heroes do it!
I think that some of our defficiencies were pinpointed on Sunday. Stubbs seemed to misdudge almost every ball, when will Moyes ( the best) realise that Yobo can not play midfield, Hibbert is sometimes used as our number one attacking option ( and that is ludicrous!), Cahill was only doing it in spurts otherwise he was AWOl, the same goes for Osman. Carsley was dependable as usual, Kilbane tried, Pistone tried to take the job from Hibbert ( please stop crossing with your right foot Sandro). Beattie could have stayed on the bench and u wouldn't have known that he wasnt on the pitch, and Dunc has got to cool down he is literally asking for it!
One other thing, as much as the Everton tackles were hard, EVERY TIME oSMAN GOT THE BALL HE WAS SURROUNDED BY THREE RED SHIRTS AND TUGGED OR PUSHED TO THE GROUND. With Cahill getting soimilar treatment our options were shut down and we resorted to the long ball.
I think that Arteta makes the big difference, since he calmly passes and passes till he carves an opening just like Gravesen used to do.
Let's see if we can get six from WB and CP!

Although I was pretty depressed after the game, I have my chin up. Liverpool are still 5 points behind and I believe in this Everton squad. They can win 4th place, its still in reach. We already know that Liverpool is one of the most inconsistent teams in the preimership this year and Everton have shown resolve in the face of defeat. Draws vs. Arsenal and/or Man Utd are possible and shouldn't be ruled out. Wins vs. everyone else left on the schedule are also possible. We can still win fourth place and wave bye-bye to Gerrard as he's sent away from the Red**** to some club in Spain or Chelsea.

I hope you don't get any more depressed, but Liverpool are 4 points behind -- not 5.

Finally caught a replay of the game last night. guess i'm a bit late huh?
just wanted to say that although everton really looked outplayed, they put up a good fight. hibbert sent bodies rolling towards the end which was fun to watch, and Baros provided great comic relief at the end of the day. If everton can scrap a point from arsenal, newcastle, and/or man u, i think they've still got a good chance of retaining 4th place.
