Re: USA vs. Honduras U.S. Men vs. Honduras Saturday, March 19 Live on Fox Soccer Channel & HDNet; 2 p.m. MT According to U.S. Soccer web site
Re: USA vs. Honduras Thanks. Yes I do get FSC. I am not that new to big soccer but thanks for the welcome. I had a different name and lost password so I started over. Been on since 2002. Go Crew!
Re: USA vs. Honduras Just a little alert for those with a Direct Tv TiVo: This game is NOT set as a category "soccer" nor does the title in any way imply the content. The title is "International Sport" and the category is "Series, Live" IT is on at 4:00 PM Eastern Time and repeated at 11:00 PM
Re: USA vs. Honduras So after training on astroturf (owing to snow on the grass) the USA departed Colorado on the team bus - so they are driving 375 miles to Albuqueque? Can that be right? After all that there will surely be quite a few tight hamstrings.........
Re: USA vs. Honduras The match is also supposed to be on Telemundo, although the network is continuing to say "Teams to be annouced" for the 4pm slot on Saturday.
Re: USA vs. Honduras Can anyone remind me if there are any big name players or at least MLS players on the Honduran national team?
Re: USA vs. Honduras Owing to the visa fiasco who knows who will be on the team - although the MLS guys will presumably be OK. Guevara I guess is the best known.
Moving thread to USA Men News & Analysis, and sticky'ing it, where it'll now serve as an official thread for pre-match analysis and the PbP happenings.
Heres the roster from Fox Sports: Honduras roster vs. United States Goalkeepers (3): Henry Enamorado, Christian Garden, Junior Morales Defenders (5): Maynor Figueroa, Sergio Mendoza, Milton Reyes, Mauricio Sabillon, Erick Vallecillo Midfielders (7): Mario Gomez, Elkin Gonzalez, Ivan Guerrero, Walter Hernandez, Walter Lopez, Elmer Marin, Carlos Moran Forwards (3): Denilson Costa, Milton Nunez, Wilmer Velasquez
Re: USA vs. Honduras Thanks! I've got Dish and suspect the same issue. EDIT: Dish does has the same problem ... the game is labeled "International Sport" although the description does say USA v. Honduras ... although no soccer reference... so check your DVRs people!
The roster for the last game against the USA in 2004 which the USA won 4-0 (the only player US survivor from the prior game is Convey) with the carryover Hon players in italics: HON – 25-Victor Coello (1-Hector Medina, 15); 6-Milton Palacios (24-Victor Bernardez, 46), 2-Nery Medina, 3-Maynor Figueroa, 23-Mauricio Sabillon (17-Roy Posas, 73), 16-Victor Mena, 20-Amado Guevara (capt.), 12-Maynor Suazo, 14-Wilson Palacios (5-Elmer Marin, 63); 9-Carlos Pavon (11-Milton Nunez, 59), 8-Jerry Palacios (13-Emil Martinez, 46). Subs not used: 4-Junior Izaguirre, 15-Elkin Gonzalez, 21-Wilmer Velasquez.
Re: USA vs. Honduras so what time is the eastern time for that ? ( i'm an idiot ). Is MT to ET will be a 3 hrs diffferent ?
Interesting--no Guevara. I get the sense we're again not going to be facing Hondo at their strongest. We torched these guys 4-0 the last two times we played. I expect something in that range this time as well.
Unfortunately it looks like Telemundo may have changed their mind, soccertv.com which previously listed them as having the match now lists for this time slot: Sat Mar 19 01:00PM Pacific Sat Mar 19 02:00PM Mountain Sat Mar 19 03:00PM Central Sat Mar 19 04:00PM Eastern Length: 2 hr D Telemundo UEFA Cup - Round of 16 - 2nd Leg/Octavos de Final - Vuelta Newcastle United (England/Inglaterra) vs Olympiacos (Greece/Grecia) Edit: the more I think about this the more it makes no sense, why would they show this game over the Honduras/US game. I would understand a MFL game or maybe a game from Spain or something.
Last tiem out as I recall the game the US really only got on top only at the end of the match when they scored a couple in the last 15 minutes to make it 4-0 and the Hondurans were unlucky in the first half on a couple of strikes. But my memory aint what it used to be..... And as I posted none of the current squad played in that game (they were almost all Euros) - except Convey who came in for Vanney in the second half.
Honduras also had problems getting visas for some of its players to attend this match. Seems they abused a privalege afforded their federation by the US Embassy. They got caught diverting visas intended for footballers to those who just wanted to get to the US and overstay. Now their applications get extra scrutiny. Some details in the Hondo Press Report thread.
I'm expecting a decent game. Milton Nunez and Wilmer Velasquez had a great UNCAF run together, and HON has nothing to play for this year except for its friendlies against Hex teams like USA and TRI, and the Gold Cup. So this game means a lot to them. I understand training in Colorado and Albu. to get used to altitude, but its not the same alt. as Mexico City, is it? And what of the Eurobased players? Will they get any altitude training, or are we using the HON match to really prepare for MEX, where we'll go for a draw, and saving the Euro players to secure a win at home to GUA three days later?
I love watching "Tyson" Nunez play. Partially because he's like a skilled pitbull out there, and partially because he really does look like crazy Mike Tyson.
