Mia Thankyou Darlin' for being you. For never compromising your integrity. For always standing up for what you beleive in. For offering your hand to those who come behind you in that ever present but difficult climb. Thank you for giving young girls and women someone to look up to and relate to. Thankyou for your tireless efforts to promote the sport of soccer and to elivate women's sports in the eyes of an awakening society. Thankyou for never forgetting where you came from. for remembering those around you, as well as those who are no longer here. Thankyou for your grace, humility, and in accepting the responsibilities that came and will continue to come from the Torch that you lit and carried for so long. You carried yourself and your sport with dignity and a quiet strength. Your have set a bench mark. You have drawn a line in the sand. You have become an example of what the standard of excellence should be, not only as a player but as a person. it is my firm beleif that everyone is born into this world for a reason, and if one pays attention to the signs those reasons can be quite obvious. Born in 1972-Same year that title IX was passed into law. Youngest to join the National team at age 15- and took the only number that was available at the time.....Number 9. You left on your own terms and only when you felt in your heart that there were those capable of continuing what you and your teammates had begun. Because of all of the above factors St. Patty's day has a stronger significance to some of us now. there is more then one reason to celibrate it. So Happy Birthday hun. bless you, and may God keep you safe. and all that remains over that is not yet yours but is desired comes to you. And that you are able to eat as much cake as you want today and never gain an ounce. Love Ya sweetie Enjoy!
Mia, I want to personally thank you for what you have done to change my life. You might not realize how many lives you have touched. We both grew up in a military family like so many others, but what made you stand out from the rest was your talent, humility, grace, determination and just for being such a wonderful human being. Plus since you graduated high school from the same area as me and did such amazing things on and off the field it allowed me to see what I could do if I just put my mind to it. Just to give you a brief list of what you have done to inspire and impact my life: A positive role model not only in womens soccer, but in womens sports. By being a positive role model you showed me what I could do in life not only in my professional life, but also in my personal life. Receiving my B.A. in Sports Management with a journalism minor. Helping me get into grad school because on the application we had to answer a question about what type of charity event we would do and who would be the athlete we would like to invite. I chose your foundation because I believe in the mission and I believe in you. Receiving my M.S. in Sports Leadership. Wanting to work in womens soccer so I could help bring soccer more recognition and to continue your legacy of giving little girls and little boys the chance to dream. So you see Mia, you have made my life better because of what you have been able to accomplish. I wish I could give back to you as much as you have given to me, but what I can do is say: Happy Birthday Mia!! Enjoy it because you deserve it! Thank you again and love ya hun!
I really dont know what to say to Mia but HAPPY BIRTHDAY! what shes done for the sport is undescribable. this poem i wrote last yr pretty much sums it all up in a way with some more thoughts here n there that arent in the poem. ENJOY Mia! "Most Incredible Athlete" - a poem for mia A lifetime journey began in 1987 To her it felt like soccer heaven A team that varied in age years Would soon shed joyful tears She would put her body to the test Never fully satisfied with her best Very down to earth Always putting her teammates first She wanted to fit in with everyone else But instead she stood out She rose to undesired fame With everyone knowing her name Never comfortable with the spotlight Because she was so uptight She believed her teammates deserved some of the glory Feeling more comfortable with them included in the story Now at age thirty-two She feels the need to hang up her shoes Labeled the best in the world To her it is a title she has yet to uphold Knowing that her time is near At the end she will shed a tear Throughout her career she has achieved an amazing feat Because of this she will be known and remembered as the MOST INCREDIBLE ATHLETE

"Thank You" You came into this world today Little did we know how you would change the game You played for fun and played to play Never letting anyone or anything get in your way As you got older, you got better and smarter All this enabled you to play 18 years longer Your number is known world wide Made girls belive they can be you deep inside Titles and medals are attatched to your name You dont realize what youve achieved with your fame Youre so humble and sweet On the field youre love for the game is shown Off the field your shyness is well known Now youre gone and have left your mark on the game You leave us with your head held high, never in shame Words cant explain what you mean to us We followed you through your ups and downs And you were there in spirit to turn our frowns upside down Mia, you have touched so many lives How could we ever repay you Thank you for showing us what we can be Thank you for making us believe Thank you for making us smile Thank you for making us laugh Mia, thank you for being you

Happy Birthday Mia!!! You have been a wonderful role model for soccer players around the world. The game was much more funner and exciting to watch when you played. Have a great b-day!
That pic brings back one of the worst memories I witnessed in a soccer stadium. ....I'd rather lose the WWC and win gold at the Olympics I guess.
