From what I hear Ms. Hamm is NOT interested in doing a Mia Hamm day at a Chicago Fire game. After all, the MLS only helped stage TWO WWCs!

Here we go again. T.F. They had a hard time as it is managing July 3rd into the schedule. it is set so late because that was the only time period when it was assured she could be available.
I would like to know what the hell the Chicago fire have to do with anything. I have heard no mention what so ever that they were interested in hosting a Mia hamm day. Mia may have retired from playing the game but that does not mean that she is sitting at home eating Bon Bons and watching soap operas. she is still a very busy woman.
Once Again flannigan is talking out his backside. offers no links to support his claims. Just shoots his mouth off about anything.

The MLS helped stage 2 WWCs. In 2003, there would have been no WWC without the help of the MLS. The Women's World Cup might have died but for the help of the MLS. If she has time to have a Mia Hamm day at Wrigley Field, I imagine she could find time to do one at Soldier Field too.

I don't buy the argument about her being booked solid all summer. Heck, all the Fire can do is invite her. The irony is there are more USWNT fans at a Fire game than almost any other place in the Midwest. Plus, many young girls were disppointed last October when the Chicago game in the Fan "Appreciation" Tour allowed so little time for autographs. You can recall the threads here. many of those kids can't get near Wrigley Field because the game is sold out. They could easily come to Soldier Field.
Hey, it still might happen. I think it would be a good thing to do.

I haven't heard or read that they have extended the invitation. Where is it on record that they've even invited her?

I have heard it through Chicago Fire sources that have proven reliable in the past. I don't think it should come as a great surprise if such an invitation has been extended. The Fire has made great efforts to invite girls' soccer leagues to games, even having the girls play soccer on the field during halftime. USWNT jerseys and local team jerseys are often seen in the audience at Fire games.
I think it is a good idea to have a Mia Hamm Day. Agree or disagree?

Tis a good idea. However, you must grant that Mrs. Garciaparra is tackling projects outside of soccer. I'm sure if her schedule allowed it she would accept.

Maybe if she was married to Chris Armas they would have a Mia Hamm day.....

She's more well known to GENERAL sports fans as being hitched to that guy with the big schnoze that is playing on a one-year contract with the Cubs rather than MLS supposedly helping stage two WWC's....

The more pertinent question for Cubs fans is whether Mia can pitch that day. We need all the help we can get.

Once again. Reliable to who T.F.? Your "inside sources" are not know to us and thus you expect us to just take your word for it. if Mia had been extended an invitation and there were any flexibility in her schedule I am sure she would be happy to do it. but the July 3rd event at Wrigley was not an easy deal either. there was some back and forth before they could find the right date. and she is recieving a contribution for her foundation as well which i am sure she greatly appreciates. she is also on the advisory board for the Freedom Club organization as well and has been heavily involved in that endevour. Here is the link if anyone wishes to check it out. they are doing some great things in the Washington area and serounding communities.

Will she be leading the singing of 'Take me out to the ballgame' in the 7th inning?

The question is... Have the Fire asked her to do one? Or are you simply saying that Mia should walk into the Fire offices and demand a day?

Who knows... does she have any elbow problems that should be concealed? That seems to be the prereq these days.

    Good lord I hope so!

The Fire have extended the invitation. There have been rumors that the fee she requires for her charitable organization is too high for the Fire to pay. This is a rumor; I do not know if it is true or not.
I find it hard to believe that she is booked solid up until September. The Fire play something like 14 home games so there is a lot of flexibility in the Fire's schedule. Maybe she does not want to help the MLS. Maybe the Fire can't afford the fee. I do not know. I think it is a good idea to have a Mia Hamm Day at a Fire game. Do you folks agree or disagree?

Yes, it would be great if there was a Mia Hamm day at a Chicago Fire game. Obviously Mia is an incredibly busy woman and whether you think she could find a day to do that or not is simply what you think. Mia Hamm is one of the only people who can speak for whether she has time to do that or has interest in doing it. I'm sure she's received offers from hundreds of groups to do all kinds of things, but has to decide what she has the time for and interest to do. Having a Mia Hamm tribute day at Wrigley Field seems like a very positive thing to me....a nice way to recognize an amazing athlete. Somehow you've managed to make it seem negative, maybe you just need to look at things a little differently.

    That is T.F.'s M.O.
That is all he ever does. His favorite target has been very quiet and there has been no publicity concerning her so he has opted for another. Fact is, Mia would not require the Fire to pay an appearence fee for her to be honored. that is just rediculous.
Even nomar says that since she has retired he has not seen much of her. She had several projects she wanted to "get her arms around" and now she has the time and she is a woman true to her word. she is doing exactly what she said she was going to do.
Now T.F. will likely come back with how neglectful mia is of her husband or some such nonsense. it is his souls endevour to turn anything positive concerning the 91ers into a negative. he has a personal axe to grind and he is going to apparently grind it here or in the News and analysis thread.
Incidently T.F.....if it is just a rumor why say it here? why say it anywhere? why take what was a very nice thread about honoring a great athelete for her contibutions to her sport and giving a cheritable donation to her foundation into yet another attempt to sling some mud and ruin everyones day. Bored much?

The Fire don't play at home that day so you don't need an alibi for that day.

I don't buy the schedule excuse for a minute. I figure it is either the Fire can't pay her fee or she does not want to do it. Of course that is her prerogative. But the MLS came in pretty handy when the USSF tried to stage the 2003 WWC on short notice. It came in pretty handy in 1999 when it helped organize that WWC. MLS executives could have said they were busy; they work longer hours than most soccer players. But they found time to help out.
Given the many negative statements about the MLS that came from "unnamed sources" within the USWNT, it may be she doen't want to help the MLS. By the way, does anyone know what her fee would be to be honored at a Mia Hamm Day?

I guess the simplest way to put it, Thomas, is that I don't trust you and I don't see any reason to trust you.

    Have a nice day.

I am curious, Tom, as to whether you think Mia is entitled to a fee for this. I realize the size of the hornet's nest I am stirring up by asking this, but I really am curious.

Hey Mia This is a rep. from the chicago Fire. We would like to honor you at one of our home games this season.

Mia- oh yeah?....how much you gonna pay me to be there?

T.F. C'mon. No one asks for an appearence fee to show up so that they can be honored. That is the equivalent of someone Buying their own birthday cake and presents.
I wonder if you realize how redicuous you sound. but; I will say this. it is quite apparent now why you constantly attack the 91ers.
MLS this MLS that.....pretty apparent what your issues are now. but if you want to talk about how wonderful the MLS is why not go over to the MLS boards and flash your true colors openly. I mean honestly. this crap is getting pretty old. Even comedians change their material once in a while.

TF, usually in this situation there is no fee involved. If someone is honored then the organization that is bestowing the honor usually as a nice gester gives money to the person's charity/foundation or to the charity of their choice. Having a master's degree in a sports related field I have had personal experiences in setting up just this sort of thing.
