Alright guys, since the season is winding down, name the player you think is the most underated in the ACC. I have a player in mind, but i'm willing to bet that someone else does too. Therefore, I'll save my pick for later. So start listing the players, and what they do that is so valuable for their team.
you can tell a lot about a player by what he does in the last 15 minutes of a game, and there is no one that shines as well as matt crawford does with time running down, two examples: goal against stanford in ncaa semifinal last year with less than 10 minutes left and game winning assist to ryan kneipper with 3 seconds left against SLU earlier this year, sounds like a prime time player to me but he gets no recognition
??? What is going on with Kelvin this year? He was a 90 minute starter his first two season and being hyped as a All-ACC player in the preseason but hasn't started much of the season. I assume he was or is injuried but do they just have better players that aren't allowing him back?
Re: ??? He started and played full 90s last year up until he was injured halfway through the season. In the five games I've seen Wake this year he's started and played full 90s. He's been dominating, and is a primary reason why Wake is undeafeated.
Alright, my pick is Oscar Bringsved for Clemson. He gets some recongition, but not nearly what he deserves. He's a great ball winner, and controls the pace of the game very well. He's also a captain, and provides that necessary leadership on the field. I have to say, all the choices so far are very deserving of some hype.
Clarence Goodson at Maryland is one of the most underrated defenders in the country. I never hear anyone ever mention Matt Crawford (UNC) amongst the top midfielders in the conference, and he has double-figures in assists. Justin Trowbridge (DUKE) is emerging as one of the top goalkeepers in the ACC and in the country.
I haven't heard anything about this. But now that you have mentioned it, I will do my best to find out. He may decide to go pro back in Sweeden, rather than MLS.
Hilgenbrink, Cutler, Oscar, Nick Rivera, Andre Borges, Paul Souders... All players from Clemson who some see as getting no recognition in the ACC...which makes you think, who from the Tiger team is getting recognition? Lewis? Westfield? Tambiosi? Warren? Between these four and the others, we've practically got the whole starting lineup...it's a wonder the Tigers are not undefeated and unscored upon.
OSCAR Oscar will not be back at Clemson in the fall. He is listed as a junior, but there is an age restriction for playing soccer in the ACC. He's 24, and that's the oldest you can be. So more than likely, he will be playing pro come spring time. Don't know where, but rest assured, he'll be out there somewhere.
I am shocked that anyone would include Nick Rivera in this post. He recieves no recognition in the ACC because he deserves no recognition in the ACC. I'm sorry but he is not good...at all. A pure thug at best. Absolutely shocking...
Well.... I have only seen him play once but I thought he was one of Clemson's most effective field players against UMD Saturday. It was a very intense and physical game so perhaps his best attributes were on display in that one.
Obviously you know nothing about soccer. I'm willing to bet that Nick played an excellent game at Maryland. He wins great headballs in the air, and i'm sure he won a lot of those against UMD since they played "kickball" the whole time. Oh, and could you also explain the "pure thug" comment?
easy Easy on the attacks folks. As I said earlier Rivera played well against UMD and was Clemson's best player in the air. He won many head balls unless matched against Goodson and that was no match at all. Clemson would not be as good without Nick Rivera in my opinion. Should be get more recognition in the league like All-ACC, well no.
Re: easy By no means am I attacking you. I'd probably agree with you if I had seen the game. But to say that Nick is no good at all is absolutely absurd. I agree, he should get more recognition, but probably not All-ACC.
Yeah...great post. That is usually what happens when you ask for opinions from a diverse group - you get diverse answers - we don't want that at all. Wasn't the point of the post for you to name people that you had seen play that weren't always in the headlines? That was the way I understood it. From there, you could watch these players that other BS'ers thought were good, deserving players. I don't remember anybody saying that these were All-American candidates. Some of you are most envious...
