    that site is a trip:

"We lost 1 nil. We were easliy the better team, we hit the post twice. They were fitter as the game went on. McCourt is gonna be some craic this year"

    'craic'?

    On their starting 11:
"Very strong, McCourt, O'Connor, Jay Gavin, Wolski had good games. Keith Doyle was MOTM (!). Wolski is huge. We're gonna batter some teams next season"

Someone should register and post a link to BS.

Well I ceratainly wouldn't agree about them clearly being the better team. FCD was better in possesion in the midfield and was finding loads of space to keep the ball, turn and advance. Rovers was a bit more organized in the back and FCD did have trouble breaking them down. Good exercise for the reserve kids really to have to break down a organized opponent.

Their two chances came once when a bad clear fell right to a midfielder who then hit the post after Cassar parried it wide. Second chance was a long bomb of a clear that sprung a forward who barely beat Cassar to the ball and went around him. His shot was off the post too.

I should have a report in a bit.

Gaelic word brought into English usage- loosely means "good" or "great".

I wonder if Rovers were surprised not to be confronted by men in helmets?

Or 'fun' might be a better translation.

Actually, there's no real exact one. You go to a pub for some good craic, usually with a bunch of buddies that you know well.

At least, that's the way I generally heard it used while I was there. For a couple weeks vacation. I'm sure someone else will expand on this.

Oh, an it's pronounced "crack" (don't forget to roll the 'r':). Or, anyway, close enough to that for our ears:)

Alvarez still playing with the reserves, huh? Is Gbandi winning the battle for left back?

I guess new guy trialist gets a run out with the first team tomorrow, then.

As in "Good Craic to be had on the Isle of Man". "Fun" is the more appropriate general meaning.

Goodson up top? We are desparte for forwards!

Was he effective at all? I can't imagine him holding the ball as needed in a 4-3-3. But I would have to see the outout of a shot from one of his skinny legs.

I rarely leave the futon, but I did once go to
Doolin, Ireland, on the Atlantic coast not too far from Galway.

"Where's the good craic?" (pronounced "crack" as far as I could tell) in that context meant "Where's the hapnin' Irish music scene tonight?"

even just typing the words "Doolin, Ireland" I almost wanna cry. definitely go if you ever get the chance

    "Emerald Isle" is no lie

    Couldn't find any beer, though:-(
    :)

(maybe the phrase was simply "Where's the craic?")

My visit was not real long after the Irish U-1?'s with Ronnie O. had beaten Germany on PK's for the European title, which participation "tied" Ronnie O. to Eire :-(

In Lisdoonvarna, nearby to Doolin, some people were speaking Gaelic, which is rare anymore.

(While in Ireland I read iirc that an official of the Gaelic Athletics Association, like this was in the 1930's,
attended a soccer match---and for that deed he was banned for life from iirc even attending a hurling
or Irish football (not soccer) match: soccer being "English" you know)

looks like that darn Buzz has got me in a travlin' mood, don't it?

Are Shamrock Rovers about the equivalent to a "League One" (i.e. Division 3) team in England?

I would probably put the Irish Legaue in the League Two slot - last years Division 3.

Just based on the players I have heard move in and out of the league.

I would say a low level Championship side or high level Division 1 in England. You only have to look at Richie Baker who play for Shelbourne but couldn't get off the Revolution bench last year. I still think that Ronnie O' could still play for the US if he becomes naturalized. FIFA passed a new rule that says you can switch your nationality if you only played for your home association as a youth. The best example of this is Freddie Kanoute of Tottenham who was a youth international for France but recently switched back to Mali. I just know someone at the USSF should be doing some homework on this.

Yes, but ROB is at least 5 years away from becoming a full US citizen, the earliest he could be even brought in to a camp would be when he is 31. You don't see many players begin their nat career at that age. Not saying it isn't possible, but highly unlikely.

Kanoute's situation is different in that he was eligible (through is parents) to play for either country when he was playing for France. ROB wasn't, and isn't now, eligible for the US when he played for Ireland. There was a long discussion on this in another thread where it was shown that these two situations are very different.

Do we have to go over this again? The reason Freddie was able to switch was because at the time he played for France, he was also eligible for Mali.

At the time ROB played for Ireland, he was NOT eligible for the US. He will not be able to play for the US.

Didn't Buzz comment on this when he ROB got his green card and ROB did play for Ireland as a youngster (U-18) and is therefore not eligible to play for the US

IIRC, we saw Goodson at forward a couple of times last year, including the final match against San Jose. I'd guess Clarke played him there today to give him a bit more experience up top for those situational spots late in matches where we could use our own version of Peter Crouch.

In regards to Maurin, are my eyes deceiving more or has he put on 15-20 lbs of muscle? And maybe had a late growth spurt? He looks different.

Not to drag this thread off topic, but 'cracker', the derogatory term for poor southern whites, was dervied from the Gaelic word 'craic':

I have to admit I have never seen the Irish league, but I do know several players who have played there and there comments were the IPL or whatever its called is A-league level (See Paul Keegen's success). The second division would be about USL 2nd division or PSL or D3, depending on what year it is.

In fairness Keegan wasn't exactly brilliant in LOI either, his goals record was appaling and he couldn't get his game for a mid table side last season, scoring all of once (It was in the cup final, mind). Richie Baker also wont get off the Shels bench this season with a Cameroon international ahead of him and Bobby Ryan, who's far better, just signed too.
