After watching the Tsunami "Football for Hope" Friendly it made me think about all the fans that came out to watch some of the most talented palyers in the world play.( I am sure there can be some room for debate here). It has been said recently that there are no pure stars to follow in the MLS, perhaps this is true. In this spirit I was curious about who you most enjoy watching play on the Fire. I am a very loyal fan but have lost a peicfic player I enjoy to watch on the team. Naturally as long as there is a "W" in the result I am quite happy. But in our past I truley enjoyed coming to the Stadium and watching Peter Novak play. In our lineup last year and at the present time this year I am lacking the player that really draws my interest. At the moment I feel Andy Herron might be someone to watch this year. In his brief apperance last year he made some awesome plays that were a joy to watch. Dont take this as we need a super star on the team. That is not what I am saying.....I was just curious on who you enjoy watching play for the Fire. cheers charles
Well I'd probably say Herron also but I'm actually too afraid to say anyone other than Caballero. Seriously, that dude is intimidating.
I loved watching Diego Gutierrez when he was here. He HUSTLED up and down the left wing. As much as I love Beas, I wasn't happy to see Gutierrez supplanted there. Too bad there couldn't have been room for both of them. I remember being astonished at some of the things Boca did when he first started. Diego, Bease, and Carlos kept us sitting in section 9 so we could watch the left flank better. Can't say I have a favorite to watch these days. Maybe its the position, since I play it, because I've enjoyed watching Mapp, too (at least, until he blasts it out of the stadium).
Always liked to watch Boca. Right up there with him were Nowak, Kubik, Beasley, and Curtin. Oh yea, 5000!
Roaaaar! Me Zach Thornton! Rooooar! was it guevarra that he shoved into the net last year? either way, I wouldnt expect ring to do that
Damani Ralph. Worldwide, Thierry Henry, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Jay-Jay Okocha could play on my side anytime. I also have a strange predilection for Ailton. Everytime I turn on channel 401 the guy is scoring a goal.
Every time I watch 'The Rusty Curtin' play, I'm amazed that such an ungainly looking guy can be so graceful on the ball... I'm not trying to predict a lot of PT for the kid, but I think Will John's gonna be fun to watch out there too...
Of All-Time: Peter Nowak Now: Damani Ralph Damani has a tendency to single-handedly break open a stagnant game with a purely solo effort (see goals against DC and LA last year, NY the year before that, and against San Juan Jabloteh in the Champions Cup last year). Which, I think, is what made Peter my favorite as well. I am anxious to see what Ralph and Herron can do up top this year. I love Jimmy Curtin but perhaps I got a little too spoiled by Bocanegra because (and I know this is nearly sacreligious to say) I DO see some instances where Jimmy isn't so graceful on the ball.
mapp and ralph. Mapp has the speed and dribbling skill to create. Ralph can score spectacular goals although he can be aggravating when he tries to go through too many defenders rather than pass.
I enjoy watching Curtin play. He's solid and simple and as Marchetti says, there aren't many opportunities to complain about his play. When he gets beat, it's ussually by a good play rather than a mistake of his own. As a Revs fan it's nice to be reminded that not every defender is repeatedly losing their man and/or getting beat off the dribble.
Beasley is my all-time favorite to watch. Now it would probably be Mapp when he is on and Curtin all the time. Curtin is not flashy but he's so good at what he does (though he has one weakness that irks me but I wont talk about it).
