Cole comes on for Clichy. 8+ minutes left to get an away goal.

An away goal means you just need to win 2-0 at home to go through.

    set piece goal.

Reyes inswinger. ends up with Vieira, who hits the ball against the inside of the post and comes out to Touré, who drives the ball in at the near post from eight yards.

90'th min now, Bayern 3-1 Arsenal

Yay - when everything is going shite I will latch on to any ray of sunshine. 2-0 at Highbury doesn't look so impossible now. Away goals are gold.

I'm discusted with this result. I predicted a loss but I at least wanted to lose with some class. Im also starting to believe what everyone is saying about Henry. I dont understand why Wenger took off Ljungberg, he was one of our best players going forward. But in a way Im happy, I hope this game proved to Wenger that we need to make some serious signings in the transfer window. On the bright side, we got an away goal and a 2-0 win at Highbury could see us through.

So we have a lifeline. That means now we need a 2-0 at Highbury, am I right? Based on this game, it's impossible but hopefully Campbell will be back and Edu will play.

I'm really frustrated. We played like... I don't know. There was no cohesion and we just couldn't find any sort of flow. I'm not sure how much of that was due to Bayern's organization and how much was just us being poor...

I'm curious if everyone thinks Toure redeemed himself with the goal? To me, no, cuz he was basically at fault for the first two. He basically had a lousy game, probably cuz the pressure was intense playing with Cygan and Clichy.

On a side note, I think Bayern are a bunch of divers. Their behaviour was appaling. I'm not saying that we didn't dive but at least the ref never awarded anything to Pires and Reyes. Yet each time a Bayern player went down, he got exactly what he wanted. Crap.

Oh, I'll just have to go console myself with chocolate chip cookies...

Hope we have hope! And isn't it ironic that it comes from our worst player on the day?

I thought we looked like a different team when Ash came on? The man has energy oozing out of him, even after flu, and if you ever read these boards Mr Wenger and the Arsenal board - please just pay him what he wants!

Come on Ash, Campbell and Dennis turn it around!!!

    Clichy/Reyes?...Frick off!!!!!!!!!!!

Most likely Bayern will score first. They know that is the best thing for them do.

What is it between Henry and European games. Not a singe single shot from him. You should see him harrassing Crystal Palace in the 5-1 game.

oh my god those muppets chatter endlessly about the great state of their confidence, but i cant see why. they fielded no world class defenders today.

    they have no magic.

Are you talking about us or them...?? :p

Yeah, Lizarazou especially was all over Pires. Sagnol did very well with Henry, too...

well, the only world class defender we have is Sol Campbell... and he was injured, so.... (Ashley Cole is debatable)
i reckon you would be stoked if they said, "we are shattered and have no hope of winning"
seems like the muppet might be you pennypacker~

Makaay would like to score one. He is not happy with the things so far. So is Ballack.

At some point you have got to agree with this. There is a link on one of these sites that shows the wages the clubs in england pay. While Sol makes 100 and Vieira 70 and Henry about the same, the club is not spending money to pay players. Sol earns about 6 million pounds a year, wages, not transfer fees, seem to be our problem. Hell, ManU have 6 or 8 players that make more than any of our guys except Sol.

We have no magic, maybe not the word I'd use but . . . You think else would allow 3 goals in match in Europe? Jose would have his players doing knuckle push-ups outside a train station in Siberia if they defended as poorly as we do.

    Damn it

    Defence + Toure

Toure has been very dodgy all season. He lacks composure, and when the team is under pressure to keep it tight, he is very prone to rash errors of judgement. Some of his poor performances have been overlooked by some in favour of targeting fans 'favourites' but TWO goals tonight were squarely down to Toure's ineptitude. Cygan looked a class above in comparison.

Wenger needs to make some serious changes to our defensive make-up as this has gone beyond a joke. Bayern did nothing out of the ordinary until they were 3-0 up! But i was pissing myself everytime they attacked purely because we seem to be chucking them in these days. Does anyone seriously think you can build a successful side based on THAT defence?

The burden on our forwards is ridiculous. They are under far too much pressure. Imagine them behind a defensive set-up half as solid as Chelsea's or Man U's and you'd see us pulling off big results on a more consistent basis at this level. Henry and co have to score 2 goals per game at the moment to get any kind of positive result. It's gone on too long and things need to change.

Wenger better ********ing sort this ******** out soon or else he's going to find himself in a lot less cosier position than he currently holds. His decision making was an absolute joke tonight! He waited 74 minutes to replace Ljungberg after that abberation of a forward-line? I could see it was not working at half-time. Ljungberg probably had his worst game in an Arsenal shirt and Wenger did nothing until the tie was virtually dead??!

How much confidence does he actually have in van Persie? On that showing it's none at all.

Thank god for that away goal, it's going to take an uncharacteristical brilliant performance to turn the tie in our favour. But the possibilty is still there, we'll obviously have to score more than 2 goals though as it's a given we are going to concede.
