If we play a double pivot Wharton is the Ideal player to do that along with Rice.We should also look at the more attacking option of Rice, Bellingham and Foden as the midfield 3.
England forward Jarrod Bowen, 27, has been linked to Newcastle United but he wants to stay at West Ham. (Sunday Mirror) , external Chelsea are set to make a £20m bid for Burnley's 21-year-old England Under-21 goalkeeper James Trafford. (Sun on Sunday), external Emile Smith Rowe's camp will hold talks with Arsenal about the 23-year-old England midfielder's future at the club after his limited playing time in 2023-24. (Caught Offside) Conor Coady says dropping out of the Premier League to sign for Leicester City was one of the best decisions of his lengthy professional career. (Daily Star on Sunday)
Smith-Rowe needs to leave Arsenal, not have his team talk to Arteta so he can claim his an important first team player and convince him to stay so he can sit in the bench next season.
He probably will start Gallagher initially but that's fine. What matters is who's starting come the knockouts.
Yes, really looked like he was establishing himself a couple of years ago but now is a bit part player who isn't even on the fringes of the England squad. He's got a lot to offer, and needs to be playing regularly somewhere.
I wouldn't have thought the main stat for any DM is goals... and, if it is, then Mainoo's haul of 3 PL and 2 FA Cup goals isnt anything to get too excited about. In terms of England, isn't it more about simply finding a midfielder who can dovetail nicely with Rice and Jude, regardless of what stats they've posted this season? That could be Kobbie, Wharton, Jones, Trent or Gallagher. We won't know until Southgate has taken a look at them and tried out all the different permutations in training and the coming friendlies
He won’t have that opportunity- Bellingham is not going to arrive until pretty much the day of the second friendly.
No question on AWB defensive ability. In a team that has more possession that’s the question. Yesterday showed he fits perfectly a team that plays on transition quickly. Not having the ball, highlights his best attribute…. 1v1 defending https://t.co/FtSpxPYGXQ— TheSecretScout (@TheSecretScout_) May 26, 2024 https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1902592/Gareth-Southgate-England-Euro-2024
You think back to how sublime he was at last summer's Euro U21 tournament and it's criminal that he's spent all that time since on the bench. I appreciate it must be a wrench to tear yourself away from your boyhood club, but come on. Ignore Arteta's false promises, ask for a move and get that career kickstarted.
Yeah, for some reason I just don’t trust Arteta and can’t warm to him, maybe it’s the bs he fed Ramsdale about rotation or maybe his sideline antics of mocking the referee but he’s not my cup of tea.
My point about the main stat in football is goals is you don't win a game of football on what your xG is or tackles won you win games of football on how many goals you score. Its not like boxing where you can win on points. The only stat that really matters is who scored the most goals.

Smith Rowe has been injured for large periods and has only had a run of 4-5 games under Arteta when healthy that he’s done well in this is 2 seasons ago and he played as a left forward like Martinelli sadly, he isn’t good enough defensively or fit and mobile enough he needs to move on imo
I don't think we'll defend with three at the back, but I could see us doing that in possession, to create a box midfield.
There are signs that James Trafford will become a top goalkeeper over time. Elite shot stopping. Already in the England squad at such a young age, Gareth Southgate undoubtedly knows of his abilities. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/28149054/jack-grealish-england-euro-squad-axe-man-city/ The Sun say Grealish and Maddison are fighting for one spot with Palmer, Bowen, Gordon and Saka all likely secure of a spot.
Looks like another opinion piece based on zero inside information. In saying that though, I'm not sure I'd be wanting to join up with England late after a week's rest if I was Jack Grealish. Not after only having played just 10 minutes of football for City all month.
I'd have Eze over Maddison. Great character to have around the squad for sure, but he's not really recaptured his early season form and we've just got better (and less injury prone) options this minute for the position he plays.

Sounds like Southgate is being rather generous with holidays. The German cup was Saturday and those players are joining up on Wednesday meanwhile the FA cup players are absent until next week.
