Yeah it was more balanced in general (albeit Ajax, then Bayern, then Liverpool and other English teams including Forest, then theoretically Juventus but short-lived albeit with a Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup win to go with their one European Cup which was finally won in very unfortunate circumstances, were having a period as consistent reigning champions).

Maybe the general balance is also indicated a little (though it's not really an exact guide as the games took place in the following seasons and without the same level of prestige as the European Cup Finals) by the Super Cup games (between EC and CWC winners; so the Uefa Cup not being factored in but that was composed of quite a lot of the best teams around in those days too of course because only the domestic and European champions played in the European Champions Cup too give it it's full name)
List of UEFA Super Cup matches - Wikipedia

Yeah, Hagi had the range and accuracy to pretty much do what he wanted with his left leg, shooting but also providing long range passes and crosses! Maybe not having the highest accuracy % I guess, but in terms of what he was capable of delivering.

EDIT - I had meant to include this in my post showing that Steaua's 1986 European Cup Final was rated as the worst one entertainment/quality wise by Guerin Sportivo - that was just before they signed Hagi of course - this guy in the videos below was already playing for them for example though:

Clips in red and white stripes are him playing for Red Star Belgrade and in the yellow playing for Romania (red shirt or light blue maybe is Steaua I think....but I didn't study the videos in full especially the second one)
(Tbh I don't really like the 1980 Final funnily (less than the 1979 one too), just because I always knew Forest to be an entertaining side and in that game they are kind of bunkering, without even being good on counter attacks too, due to circumstances including having lost Trevor Francis and because of the opponents Hamburg, and even due to strategy/approach in that particular game (and I wasn't old enough to experience watching the game live anyway); note as well that the 1991 Final was probably expected to be a classic but was a disappointment, largely because Red Star decided to play cagily for the win I think in that final game with Marseille)

Don't forget Van Basten received his first significant injury to his knee during 1986/87 so was playing the last portion of the season in a semi-recovered but more limited state:

Difficult to say (like comparing the right of Platini and Hoddle maybe for example)! Perhaps Puskas for goals, but he played closer to the goal in a higher scoring era and in more dominant teams. I tend to think Hagi maybe had superior range, but Puskas could maybe generate his power more quickly/efficiently with not much of a swing of the leg...? Both could be really good evidently when using it for little tricks and skills.

By the way I expanded my reply to you quite a bit now (I'd forgotten to put some things in; I still intend to reply to Wiliam and then your Dinamite post on the other thread in the next minutes!).

Yeah, I think the chances created per game or per 90 minutes are also interesting to see (of course taking into account how many World Cups were played and when they were played etc potentially). Also the stats for single World Cups. But that's an interesting list for the cumulative numbers too (albeit like you say it's lacking data for the earlier years).

Chances created/key passes can be a little misleading in some cases because not every shot has arrived after the same quality of pass/play and some teams had more of the ball than others for example too, but as a general guide to creative influence it's interesting for sure.

Yes... I understand what you mean Peter Gabriel... for example Johan Cruyff created 36 chances in just 7 matches in the 1974 World Cup... and Jairzinho with 35 chances created in 16 matches in total ..66 ... 70 peak ..74 .....So you can clearly see there is a difference between Jairzinho and Cruyff ... Cruyff being much more of a bow and arrow at the same time and Jairzinho being much more of an arrow than than a midfielder overall. !

Yes, sure, not to discredit Jairzinho for creating chances from the wing while also being a big goalscorer in that 1970 World Cup of course (but yeah Cruyff was the main playmaker in his false 9 role).

I never did any singing with Kate Bush to be honest (I know you know this already and are only joking with the name though!)

I remember noticing that he was playing very well vs Brazil in 1968 myself yeah (moreso for sure IMO than in the 1966 World Cup Final for example).

Strangely it says that FIFA have blocked that now (normally FIFA don't block videos I thought), but this one is pretty good for example anyway too (and it has a few left-footed ones, although several played with the outside of his right boot - I guess arguably he is the GOAT at that type of pass?):

The number of assists per game you have for Gullit isn't so far below the rate of Cruyff himself it seems (IIRC Trachta had a number quite close to 0.5 per game overall for Cruyff). Did you have any similar estimate for Van Basten?

............... I understood now ! you can't to watch this video But i'm able to see the video ... well ... Trachta brings it back with 117 assists from Marco van Basten ... I believe alittle bit more counting indirect assists too ! in those games that I saw for Ac Milan Ruud Gullit .. Van Basten has 3 assists by Daniele Massaro ! that were consider an own goals ... one those against Roma away game . I believe in 128 assists in 431 matches . of course including indirect assists too !

.................... You Know this, I don't like Ronaldinho Gaucho and Kaka at all as players but i think Marco van Basten the Quality Passing Skills (Marco van Basten ) is equals to the Kaka and Ronaldinho ... equally both the 3 has average of passing assists equals ... between 0. 27 % til 0. 30 % average of assists . !

I think I think similar, because with that attempt/estimate for passing/dribbling/goalscoring all combined I put Van Basten at 22 (among the 40 players selected, not among all players all-time!) for passing, and Ronaldinho at 24, but could err either way between them easily I guess. Kaka I might have a little below them at least I am thinking in theory, but sometimes he did play really good passes too (like vs Liverpool in 2005, to Crespo)....

Cruyff yes I think so for sure (I had him 3rd on that same passing list among those 40 I had selected for passing/dribbling/goalscoring combined, just behind Platini and Michael Laudrup, and slotted ahead of Didi, Zico and Bergkamp....but if thinking of players not included in the 40 then I think maybe I would put Glenn Hoddle higher for passing too potentially).

Gullit, in terms of the longer passes and using the outside of the boot too, then yeah I could probably agree too (also for crosses I think). For the medium/shorter passes then maybe not above them though, I'd think (Van Basten, Ronaldinho anyway I mean; not so sure about Kaka with these passes generally and maybe I'd still think Gullit>Kaka on average with the shorter passes too....).
