I could see that. The case against Vieira seems to be that he is currently in Arteta's doghouse due to his training effectiveness/effort. And while it didn't turn into playing time, Arteta has specifically praised ESR for his training efforts. It makes more sense financially to sell ESR if only one goes but Arteta may prefer to keep ESR and he may have a better chance of actually receiving playing time.

Here is an example from a reddit "accountant" of how the numbers break down for FFP. I have no clue how valid this is but it generally makes sense and there were others that generally agreed with the math.....

If this is correct, while we get better FFP value from ESR, selling Vieira for anything over 12m nets us a positive FFP. I could also see the argument that selling both could be good business if we got a strong enough player to take their minutes. Given their low number of minutes played, you really could sign 1 to replace both and backfill depth with youth.

The issue is who is paying more than 12m for Vieira?

If I had to pick one of the 2 its ESR, at least he can play at this level, but ideally we sell both if they aren't going to be used in rotations.

Over the last two seasons, Vieira has shown more than ESR. I think those radars show it.

I would get rid of both, tbh but Vieira looks the better player.

I think there are a lot of players looking at what Arteta has done with Havertz.

Highlights of Joao Neves (with whom Arsenal have been linked) falling down…a lot:D

Joao Neves isn't going anywhere unless someone wants to pay the 100m+ release clause. Benefica has no interest in selling and has said as such several times in the media recently.

    poor defensive work ethic
    super streaky
scored double digit (non-PK) 4x out of 8 1000+ min seasons
    will be 27 in Oct

Not sure I like the fit. For the money (transfer & salary) I'd prefer Nico Williams. Only advantage Rash has for me is HG status.

i posted it for the slapstick. There is definitely quality there but I couldn’t stop chuckling at the number of times he ended up on the ground. Interesting selection for a highlight video. In addition, we already have a player that gets fouled a lot.

Neves has a ton of upside but he is a bit small for the DM spot for my liking

Rashford is a premier league goal scorer as well, tbf

It doesn’t make sense to me either but this story been around for a few months.

But I also keep hearing the stories that in addition to his amazing charity work, he's emulated the "all night Dwight" ethic of Yorke from back in the day. That won't fly with Mikel for a second if it's true.

IIRC a few months back I heard a story about Rash: he went awol, partying in Dublin, missed or was late for prax, was then dropped/punished for a little while. That type if behavioral track record would seem to be a big disqualifier for a Arteta, no?

    I’m not disagreeing with you.

Mom only saying the Rashford to Arsenal rumors been around for a few months.

I don’t want him either just because he doesn’t work for his team.

Came here to see what you guys thought of a Rashford link. I think he would do well here—he needs to feel loved at a club and walking into this project would resurrect him. People forget he’s only 6 months older that Jesus.

if he comes, I’ll start to believe I have some sort of super power bc I willed Ode and Havertz here and have been wanting rashford for a long time.

Problem with Gashford is he is on huge inflated Man U salary of over 300k per week until 2028 - so he would cost a fortune for someone who is not elite.

Also isn't your priority more like a CF who is adept at playing with his back to goal? You already have several players on your squad who can do what Rashford does, and they aren't on inflated wages like he is, as you say.

Would only take Rashford on a free because it could offset salary, but I also think he doesn't fix our immediate needs and that money is better used on a genuine goal scorer.

That said, I won't be upset if we got him.

Well, that's the thing, we don't really know what the priority is. Plus, Havertz has proven he can play with his back to goal. Conventional wisdom has been saying Arteta's dream signing would be Isak, who can play across the front line.

That plus I'm not convinced he's still got his mojo, is an Arteta-type player, etc...

French media claiming that PSG are in the mix for Bruno G and Kimmich as a replacement for "flop" Ugarte.

His FBref this season is dogshit but there was a reason PSG bought him last summer. Maybe he wasn't a fit for their system? He fits the age profile. If Arteta likes him and he can be had for a discount.....

Seeing claims that Villa, Wolves, Palace & Everton are all after ESR and that Arsenal have valued him at 30-40m GBP. I've seen other claims that he is a 20m GBP player. 30m may not be unrealistic if you consider the English tax.

    Rashford is a weird one

in his day he is great and he could be a one man counter attack for us with his pace

but his price would be a joke and his wages

The reason he vanished was because he basically said we weren't in for Odegaard at 35m and were going for Maddison at 70m/80m and it was basically him being used to out false sources, but he vanished because he said he would bail on his twitter if Maddison to Arsenal didn't happen.
