And then, we had Herman Cain 2012. So, the argument that before the escalator ride, the GOP had formidable guardrails, I dunno. When’s the last time a Plin or Cain got that close to power on the D side? John Edwards is the closest, I guess, but I don’t see it.

If these prosecutions were evidence of "weaponization of the DOJ" Trump and his family and shitbird conspirators like Giuliani, Stone, et al,. would be in their 3rd year of incarceration in GITMO. His point isn’t to suggest anything. Look carefully at his posts. Does he show any indication he wants a dialogue? No, he does not. He’s just trolling, in the purest sense.
And, IIRC, other than when nominating him for Attorney General, Biden has made it a point not to meet with Garland, as a point to show that the AG/DOJ is independent. Trump met with all his AG, and even Comey (?) said his meeting involved Trump interfering with the DOJ/FBI.
Only in the Right Wing echo chamber. FFS, there are a hell of a lot of legal people who are hugely critical of the DOJ and their handling of the Trump indictments. But, it is interesting how, in a courtroom when presented with facts, Trump has been found guilty/liable 3 separate times (okay, so on was Trump Org.). In addition to that, him and the people around him have been found liable (plead guilty) in 3 separate states (at least), and are indicted in 5 separate states plus DC (at least), with others pending. Beyond that, Roger Parloff, whom I assume you listen to, or at least know enough to follow the updates I give in the Trump trial thread, is very cautious about his editorializing and gives the benefit of the doubt beyond most others. When commenting on the current Trump trial in New York, he said that the people whom Trump surrounded himself with are "lying filth."
