"Ange Postecoglou could reportedly look for a ‘way out of Tottenham’ after he turned on the club and its fans following a Premier League loss to Manchester City. The Australian’s comments after the City loss did not speak of a man who is overly happy with the way things are playing out. He largely suggested that the club’s desire to lose to push rivals Arsenal away from the title was the wrong outlook on the game. “The foundations are really fragile. The last 48 hours have shown me that,” Postecoglou said. “It’s inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside, everywhere. It’s been an interesting exercise. It’s just my observations, mate.” Spurs lost 2-0 to City, ensuring that they could no longer reach the Champions League, and that there’s a chance Chelsea could beat them to fifth, depending on final day results. Postecoglou slammed the atmosphere, suggesting his side would have done better had supporters been less concerned with the Arsenal situation." Started already sadly, rumours of Ange leaving. Even Michael Owen is suspicious of something coming soon. I sincerely hope he stays but he's already doing a Conte by criticising the club by calling it fragile etc. I don't blame him if he wants to go. We played our best football at the beginning of the season which is never a good idea. I hate to say it but Chelsea are doing it right by coming on strong at the end. I normally have a fairly good premonition as to what's going to happen the following season but this year I'm totally unsure. Ange said he gets better in the second and third seasons of his tenure. Let's hope so.
"Alan Shearer has shared his thoughts on whether Tottenham could sack Ange Postecoglou after his fiery rant following his team’s loss to Manchester City. Spurs have lost five of their last six games after a dip in form at the worst time possible that has seen them miss out on Champions League qualification. The 2-0 defeat to Man City pleased a handful of the Spurs supporters, who were hoping their team lost to ensure rivals Arsenal don’t lift the Premier League title. Ange Postecoglou has always been honest in his post-match press conferences and voiced his frustrations with his situation following the game." Here we go.
If you listen to the pre-Sheffield press conference (his actual words, not just the reporting on it), it's clear he has moved on past Tuesday and is back to work more determined than ever. The media needed something to talk about and for a few days this was it.
Does anybody know when we'll know which teams across Europe qualified for The Europa? I'm trying to find a site but cannot. I'm interested to know who we might be facing. Thank goodness we're not in The Conference.
UEFA has a website. It has a section for each of its competitions. I'm fairly sure that if you go there, it keeps a running tab on who's in. At least it has in the past. I'd check now, but I'm on the move. Should work, though. Edit: might not have next year's comp up yet, though, as this year's isn't over. Oops. Edit edit: not there yet. Soz. Edit edit edit: forget all that. Here: 2024–25 UEFA Europa League - Wikipedia Scroll down a bit. Only a bit of it has been determined yet.* Lots to come. *of the 24 teams that will participate in the group stage, only nine have been determined. They are: Spurs Eintracht Frankfurt Lyon Nice Athletic Bilbao Real Sociedad Roma Porto AZ Alkmaar Another 20 or so teams have qualified for the various qualifying rounds, but, aside from two or three more spots, the remaining group stage participants won't be determined until early next season. ... further (I just can't stop!) ... of those other eight teams listed, we can only get one of them in the group stage, and possibly none. My rationale here is that five of them will be (along with us) in 'Pot A', meaning they'll all be in separate groups, and the other three will go in 'Pot B', meaning we can only get one (if any) of them. So basically, in terms of who we might play in the Fall, we know only a sliver more than nothing.
Really interested to see how this Swiss model works out. Cartilage Free Captain did an explainer which I found helpful. https://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnati...el-explained-league-table-playoff-competition It includes a tweet with a projected full field for the competition though as pook says very few are confirmed as of yet. It's nice to know some of those 'league' games will be against good sides like Porto or Roma. With 8 league games I guess there could be lots of dead rubbers towards the end, but the bonus of ending top 8 vs places 9-24 (who have to go through an extra playoff round) could reduce that.
Congratulations to the U21 squad, regular season league winners and playoff champs. WE'RE PREMIER LEAGUE 2 CHAMPIONS! 🏆 pic.twitter.com/LFlIDV8yWa— Tottenham Hotspur Academy (@Spurs_Academy) May 26, 2024
Our youth teams are doing wonderful things, it's mind boggling to me none of them are very likely to play in the first team.
The draw for the league phase will take place on August 30th after a gazillion playoff rounds. Here is the league schedule:
Yeah that's a ton of games (144 if my math is correct) to eliminate just 12 teams. Not counting the qualifying rounds. I'm sure we'll have a Europe thread next season to complain at length about UEFA!
We have signed 25-year-old GK Brandon Austin to a 5-year deal. What in the name of God's green Earth are we doing?
He was already ours. He came up through our youth system. So it's not as though we've paid a transfer fee, and one supposes his wages are commensurate with what he is ... a home-grown roster slot who'll seldom, if ever, see the pitch with the first team. It is a long contract, to be sure, but there are viable rationales, you'd think. Four years from now we'll (probably) be paying him less than what it'll take to fill that slot ... or maybe the club feels that he has enough to make him sellable down the line ... etc., etc. ... all guesses/speculation, of course, but I doubt we've pushed the boat too far out on this one. I'm sure we'll do far dumber shit than this before August.
It's official, Timo's back on loan: https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2024/may/timo-werner-rejoins-on-loan-for-202425/
Since we've been chatting about the youth teams, here's a rundown of the best prospects from Alistair Gold. https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/10-tottenham-wonderkids-who-could-29276488
I read somewhere that ManCity have been sniffing around Mikey Moore, trying to get their claws in him before he signs his full contract. Made it sound like we'd get somewhere around 5m in compensation if it plays out. If I knew where, I'd go back and read it more thoroughly. Not much you can read about these kinds of things anymore without massive doubts. Probably nonsense ... which I've just perpetuated ... but there you have it.
I rarely listen to matters football related as usually the opposite happens. "David Pleat will be staying at Luton" said the chairman, Pleat went to Spurs. "Alan Hutton is staying at Glasgow Rangers" said the chairman, Hutton went to Spurs. I wait until it happens, if it happens.
Maddison out of the England Euro squad. Good! He's unhappy, but I would rather see him get a nice rest, play some golf, and come back ready for the new season.
He wasn't great when he came back from injury, and he said so. Better players in his position at the moment.
So the Euros start Friday. Our representatives: Dragusin - Romania Hojbjerg - Denmark Vicario - Italy Van de Ven - Netherlands Shame that Porro did not make the Spain squad. Guess Vicario will not see many minutes. Mickey may play LB since the Dutch are stacked at CB.
