It was weird seeing Verstappen run the whole race and not be competitive up front. Ferrari and McLaren had quite the day. Good win for Leclerc.

Southampton holds on for the 1-0 win and Leeds is the only team relegated from the Premier League last year that didn't bounce right back up this year.

The storm has passed and fans are heading back through the gates. No start time yet, but the Indy 500 is looking likely for today.

They're still doing the 80+ minutes of pre-race nonsense for some reason. It's baffling that they didn't start that as soon as the rain stopped so they could race now, when the track is already dry.

IndyCar just announced that the race has to end by 8:15 ET due to local laws. They've spent over an hour with a dry track doing a bunch of ceremonial crap that nobody watches and might run out of time for the actual race. IndyCar needs to get as far away from NBC as possible.

Serie A relegation battle has been settled...poor Frosinone! The Lions were safe heading into today, and they were hosting fellow-strugglers Udinese who were just ahead of Empoli who were hosting Roma.

Udinese, who drew 19 times this season (half of their Serie A matches) got a goal in the 75th minute which held up for a 1-0 win. Frosinone were still safe, as long as Empoli did not win. Empoli was tied with Roma at 1-1 until it got a stoppage time goal in the 92nd minute! Udinese and Empoli survive...Frosinone drop down to Serie B for the 2024-25 season.

That's how you do the final lap of the Indy 500. O'Ward and Newgarten with a spectacular job of swapping spots without wrecking.

18th minute goal for Bochum at Dusseldorf to cut the aggregate to 3-1. Bochum trying desperately to stay in the Bundesliga.

Notre Dame controlling the NCAA LAX championship game 7-3. Maryland jumped up 2-0, but the Irish came back with 5 goals on their next 6 shots. Long way to go with 11:31 left in the second quarter.

It's been a remarkable season thus far for FC Machida Zelvia, who have been at, or adjacent to, the top of the 2024 J1 League standings - despite being a newly-promoted team:

The Antlers are doing well this season, also. As it happens, they are set to play an Emperor's Cup match against the J3 League's Nara Club. Given each team's choice of branding, would this be the "Deer Derby?"

And as for the team up in Sapporo, well...

66th minute goal for Bochum. Score is 0-2 (3-2 on aggregate). Dusseldorf is getting close to letting promotion slip through their hands.

PENALTY two minutes later and Bochum has a chance to tie it from the spot. After some complaining it's converted and we're at 3-3 in the 70th minute.

RIP to Bill Walton, who apparently couldn't live without the Pac-12. I know a lot of people hated him on commentary but I loved it every time he called a Pac-12 basketball game. Those of us who lived in the Pac-12 knew that Bill, for all his eccentricities, loved the conference and not just his UCLA Bruins. He's a legend just for what he did after retiring from playing, much less what he did as a player. He will be missed.

He also has a cameo in the first Ghostbusters.

(Ironically, the final Pac-12 sporting event in its current incarnation happened Friday(?) night when Arizona bear USC for the conference baseball championship)

Couldn't stand Walton as an announcer but loved him in every other context.

    Penalties in Dusseldorf:

Uchino for Dusseldorf skies the final kick and Bochum stays in the Bundesliga for another year.

    We didn’t deserve Bill Walton.

He is an absolute legend in the state of Oregon for his time with the Trailblazers. And for some reason us Oregon fans consider him a Duck even though he never had anything to do with the university.

it’s a sad day for the world.

I remember Bill Walton doing a game a couple of years ago at Washington when he started gushing because Sonny Sixkiller walked by. Man, did that bring back a memory for me. Sixkiller was a diminutive, but dynamic quarterback for the Huskies in the early 70's The first college football game I ever saw in person was when Wahsington, a top-20 team, played in Urbana-Champaign against Illinois. The Illini intercepted a Sixkiller pass just before halftime and returned it for a then-school record 98 yards for a touchdown to take a stunning 14-10 lead. Unfortunately, that was the last hurrah for the Fighting Illini. I think Sixkiller threw 3 touchdown passes and ran for another on the day, as the Huskies went on to a resounding 52-14 win!

Sure, some of Bill's commentary during games was on the abstract and tangential side, but you couldn't deny his love for the Pac-8, then Pac-10, then Pac-12 Conference, regardless of the sport being contested or the academic status each school held.

Jahn Regensburg with goals bookending the half at 45+2 and 47 to take a 0-2 lead on the road and 2-4 lead in the aggregate against Wehen Wiesbaden. 30 minutes remaining in regulation for them to hold on and be promoted up to the 2. Bundesliga again.

Wiesbaden with an 81st minute goal but Regensburg holds on for the win and heads back up to the 2. Bundesliga.
