Sometimes I still can't believe we have this guy. Benzema and Kroos are gone, and we have Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham. True changing of the guard. History is happening in front of our eyes.
This young lad appears so humble, so talented, the perfect person, whether in the Arena or at his BBQ. Feels like ya' wanna protect him out there from the ominous leg choppers. However, although he has placid mannerisms, he is surely one that all defenders will fear intensely. Also due to him being aesthetically "innocent", opposing players may think ... prior to choppin' him. This action will, without doubt, cause mayhem from his fellow peers wearing that shirt. My clear favourite of those warriors, even though I admire them all in such a short period of time. Unfortunately I don't support your team, but .. it's kinda odd I know all your players names, yet don't even know all my team's. Shameful admission. Ya' can admire other women while stickin' loyal ta' ya wife can't ya?
You guys are talking crazy. This kid has personality, yells at teammates to press and already has an air/ego about himself. The only reason someone would confuse him for being "aesthetical innocent" is due to his age, but then again Rodrygo was a baby face and no one brought that up regarding him
I thought so too. Very sweet but also kinda strategic. This was his attempt to facilitate the formatrion of a bond between Guler and the fans which would make Arda feel more part of the club from his first year. I think Carlo rates Arda really highly which is why he is trying to set him up for success and this gesture was a small part of that process.
I truly think Arda can be a starter at RM next season.. he has an amazing talent and clinical footballer
Let me put my tinfoil hat on for a second. I wonder how much of it was perpetual injury woes but Arda being maybe too good for Castilla with the club still wanting him to be in the first team training with our legends and veterans. Buy time for him to get acclimated to the country, the squad and the culture of the club.
If he would have stayed at Barca his entire career he could have found a way to preserve that, but the divorce took a lot from the illusion of club and player away.
I didn’t see anything that was outstanding other than I liked his tenacity wining back the ball and that one pass he put in on goal that his teammate fluffed. He lost the ball quite a bit in that reel and wasn’t very accurate in his crosses and the one time he had a good chance to score it got blocked twice. I don’t read much into international friendlies. I hope he gets a good run in for the euros. He’s got some great potential, needs a loan and some minutes.
He has to beat the competition here. Going on loan like Asensio, Odegaard and then expecting starting spot based on that won't work at RM. He will be judged in training too. He looked great in La Liga after 5 months of injury absence. Playing at that level should get him important squad minutes with 70+ games next season. And no team has everyone healthy for such a long season. Already reports that Bellingham will miss start of the season if he undergoes shoulder surgery.
I may be late sharing this interview, but Guler confirms that we pitched him the idea of being the heir to Modric when we signed him. So perhaps his future is in midfield. To translate a few more things for my non-Spanish readers, he says its everyone's dream to play for Real Madrid. He says adaptation remains one of the more important things he needs. Says everyone understands Spanish besides him and so some things get lost in training. Does just 2 hours of Spanish classes a week. When asked what he likes about Spanish culture, he says he loves the siesta, the midday nap. That it helps the body a lot.
Modric and Kroos started their pro career playing AM. Bastian was playing RW for several years and I think it was LVG who made him play CM. Guler has the technical skills and creativity to play CM so it will be about defensive work-rate mostly. Given our attacking options, I do think it'd be easier for him to get more minutes as a creative CM in future. Also because 4-4-2 would be ideal for defensive balance with Mbappe and Vini until Endrick is ready to start which could be 2-3 years away.
Potentially sure, we haven't seen an indication of that yet. Right now he's exclusively played on the wings. I think seeing him backup Bellingham as a 10 should be a start. Especially with the reports of Bellingham missing the first month or two of the upcoming season. Don't know if Ancelloti will do that though, he has Brahim ahead or even switching to 433 and play Rodrygo with Mbappe and Vinicius. Tough to predict right now.
